Hi guys:
i have a question--do you let people around you know about it when you are on a diet?
i'm not sure what i should do. im a college freshman and i decide to eat healthfully. Sometimes when i go out, there's always junk food involved. I always decline them because i just dont like 2 am pizzas (or pizzas in general)...
i'm not sure how to say it though. usually i just say--no thanks, im full. but sometimes people still try to persuade me. im wondering if i should just tell my friends that im trying to eat healthfully/im on a low fat diet, etc...
does anyone have any experience with that?
Thanks, and happy thanksgiving! =)
I'm a Grad student and my experience is - don't push the diet thing, because they'll still try to convince you (i.e. you're not fat - come on!)
I'd say I don't have a fatty tooth or I just don't want any. If you say you don't WANT it, what more could they say???

It works easier for me some times to let those around me that I eat healthy, it's just depends on the people and your situation.
At work most if not all know that I eat healthy and they will NOT break me. I think after the first few time they try and persuade me they get the point.

I think there is no reason to let other people know if you are trying to loose weight. I find some people actually get a bit uncomfortable around you when they are eating junk food. I usually look at them and just say no thanks that food will kill you ( or something like that ) At the end of the day it really isn't their business anyway...
This isn't answering your question directly but my view is that there is nothing worse than the person who is being a diet martyr. The one who trawls through a restaurant menu whining on about 'oh the pie looks delicious but I'm watching my weight....', 'I'd love dessert but I'm on a diet so I can't'.... Even worse, the ones make a big song and dance about not ordering any chips because they're 'trying to cut down', sit staring at your plate like some starving urchin and then pinch yours!!!! (The nerve) I'd much rather they plumped for the fish and salad and kept quiet.
Don't complain. Don't explain. If you don't want to eat or drink something (or smoke, or do drugs, or drive the wrong way down a one-way street on a motorbike) the only words you need are 'no, thank you'. And if they ask again try it a little louder.
I usually say, No Thanks I had a huge dinner and I'm not hungry. If they persist, I just shrug and say "hey, there's more for you!" (with a smile of course) I've never found it necessary to announce that I'm dieting, eating healthier or anything else that's none of their business!
ha thanks guys! the advices are very handy! =)
