110-115 pound people - what are you maintaining on?
And please write your height and age as well.
Me, I'm 5'3, and 113 pounds, 22 yo, and I'm rather....completely confused as to what I should be eating to maintain. CC calculator recommends me 1500 calories. WHATTTTTT, no way, I lost weight on that. I currently eat 2000-2200 calories, I might have increased a bit in weight (half a pound at most, the scale is all over the place each morning, either under my weight, or over it by a pound), but my period is a week late, and my body is rather bloated, so I might even be under my weight if the bloat is a lot.
I was on a trip and walked a TON and got a cold there. Got home and found out I had pneumonia so I'm not gonna strain my body. I do no exercise (not recommended for pneumonia recovery).
Now, I'm not gonna try to restrict while recovering from a cold obviously, but I want to know in the long run what I should aim for.
I also want to know if maybe I'm doing something wrong - a cold shouldn't turn to pneumonia, so my immunity must be low. I eat a ton of vegetables every day, with a healthy vinaigrette, and fruit too, nuts as well (almonds and pumpkin seeds mostly) and also chicken. Anything I'm missing?
Could the excessive walking have caused the skipped period? Or am I too slim? I like being this weight, but not at the expense of my bones...
P.S. I'm pretty sure I'm not overestimating my calories, I use a kitchen scale, or food that has the calories described on the package, or calorieking.com for estimates.
Thanks for your advice and info
i maintain on 3000cals a day, when i workout a bit more, 110, 19,5ft4 more or less if half an inch counts.
sometimes your period can go a miss if your stressed or not eating enough fats. at least so i am told anyway. but it sounds like your eating enough, how long as it been since your last period?
It's 7 days late. That's for a 30 day period. I'm usually like clockwork, even to the specific time of day (always during the night, never during the day). It's rather impossible that I'm pregnant, but I checked anyways. I'm not pregnant :P.
hi-
youre at the low end of the weight range which could be the reasson for the missed period.
before you got sick and stopped excercising, how active were you?
did you recently raise your calories but were eating much less for a while recently?
i know you listed some of the foods you eat but im assuming you eat others as well?
Well, lightly active for before my trip (walking, light exercise 3-5 times a week). During my trip (10 days) I spent the entire day walking places, visiting museums and such. That corresponded to days 15-25 of my period.
Before my last period I was eating 1200-1400, and not exercising at all. After that period I had reached my goal weight, so I upped to about 1700. Then I went on the trip.
Well, let me list a typical day. Wake up, eat 2 pieces of fruit (200 cals), then 100 cal worth of almonds. Then at around 10-11 eat something else for 300 calories (could be anything, stuff like, rice cakes with hummus). At lunch I eat stuff like chicken breast and a HUGE salad (by salad i mean tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers) for maybe 500-600 calories worth (I don't even count the vegetables) then a bit later I might eat something sweet for 100-200 calories worth. Then at dinner I eat something worth 400-500 calories worth (maybe french fries, maybe a HUGE soup, maybe some more chicken etc.). Sometimes I eat some more sweets after this meal. Most of the times I don't.
I'm physically incapable of skipping meals, I get all woozy. Today I went shopping at Ikea and felt all dizzy all of the sudden. Then I looked at the clock and it was 1 hour after my usual dinner time. My body LETS ME KNOW :P People who can skip breakfast creep me out, I could never do that.
5 feet 2.5 inches too here, 113ish and maintaining on anything from 1800 on days when I hardly do anything to 2500 on very active days. Usually around 2000-2200.
hmm, i think the low amount that you were eating before might have maybe been too low, crept on you, and caused the missed period. i think wait til next month before getting too scared. how long have you been eating 2200 from 1700? what is "light excercise"? those are things thatd contribute i think.
Almost 2 weeks for 2200ish
Light exercise - 30 min floor exercises plus 40 min yoga. OR Jillian's 30 day shred. OR just being very active throughout the day with normal stuff (walking, cleaning etc.). Nothing major.
haha, i do Jillian's 30 day shted but i only do level 1, level 2 was way too hard and miserable and not even something i want to challenge myself with, it just sucked so i stay w/ level 1, dont know what you do, and i still think its stough and almost "moderate". not daily, rt?
id say continue what ur doing, dont dip below 2200 which might even be too low bc u seem pretty active actually, and wait to see next month.
I've been trying to figure this one out too. I'm 24, 5'2" and 107ish. For the past month or so I had to stop working out and tried to maintain on about 1500, which was CC's recomendation, and I think I lost weight, although some of that might have been muscle.
Now I'm doing about 40 mins of weights and 30 mins of cardio, 5 days per week, and trying to eat around 1800, which might still be too low.
For recovery from any illness, forget the calories, just eat healthy like you have been. You probably need about 200-300 extra cals per day if you're recovering.
Oh yea, and I haven't had my period naturally in almost a year, after being like clockwork my entire life. I even gained about 10 pounds on purpose to try to get it back, although I lost my period before I lost weight. My ob/gyn said these things just happen sometimes and he didn't seem too worried. If it stops longer than 60 days they can check your hormone levels to make sure you're doing ok. Turns out I'm in perfect health, but no period. Go figure.
My stomach does not really get a strong sense of hunger - since anorexia YEARS ago when I restricted, my hunger signals feel so weak compared to the hunger I felt back then, that I barley notice them now; however, I can tell I am hungry through getting irritable/ thinking of the food!
I am about 5 ‘ 5 and eat 1450 - 1900, it varies a lot! I do not have a big appetite, despite loving food, so it is hard for me to eat as much as some people do, I do not like to eat unless I feel that my body wants the food .
It also depends WHAT I eat; if I eat enough protein and some fats than I can feel satisfied on as little as 1450 - 1600 (when I walk for about an hour)
If I eat less protein and mostly carbohydrates I find I crave more food; I eat roughly the same calories but I need to eat more frequently and I am more likely to eat more then my body actually needs due to my body craving more protein, and not getting the actual thing it needs so it still gives off the need for the protein DESPITE already having enough calories.
Also, I can eat about 2000 - 2500 on a highly active or splurge day (which I no longer have because I started to just eat what I want when I want it therefore only crave small amounts of treats) HOWEVER, in the past, I have had splurges and eaten a lot of food, 3000 or slightly more calories as much as once or twice a week and I still maintained.
Your body needs more calories when you are sick too.
