When do people notice?

Quote  |  Reply
Hey, I was just wondering when people started to notice or comment on your weight loss? I have lost 7 pounds so far and no one has noticed. not even my parents or sisters notice and I can't see a difference except that my jeans are a little to big.  I was also wondering how many pounds you have to lose to go down a pants size.  By the way I am 13 138 pounds and 5'3.5 I started at 145-146 and i want to get down to 130-125 for now. Thanks in advance!!

When my sister lost weight and when i started losing, the first and biggest place you notice it is in the face.  In my opinion at least

A few years ago I lost a lot of weight with Jenny Craig and my "lady that takes the weight" said that it is usually around 12-14 lbs before people start to notice that you've lost weight. Also, you probably won't see a difference for a while either. It kinda stinks but, you are going to percieve yourself as not having changed until there is some kind of milestone that makes you realize that it has happened. Like buying new clothes. I always bought them way too big, not even noticing that I was no longer that big. Does that make sense?

At any rate... keep up the good work. Soon people will start to notice and so will you.

it also depends what you are losing eh~ when i was depressed i lost a lot of muscle - so the scale went down but i looked only a little smaller.

years later, i have worked my body so i have far more muscle and less fat and people notice like mad!

i guess i got comments after losing 25 pounds.

it also depends on where you are coming from. 12 pounds looks different on everyone :)

don't forget also that at 13 years old, you are still growing !  don't deprive yourself of important nutrients !   My girls went through chubby and thin stages during the growing up process (never dieted) as long as you are eating healthy (and get your butt off the couch - get outside and play!)  you should be just fine!   Girls are especially susceptible to the illusion that they need to lose weight when in fact, it may be just nature's way of helping you grow up !  Be patient :) (((HUGS)))))
No offence but i do not think its a stage I have been alittle over weight since age 9 and I just want to lose some extra fat and be able to run a lap on the school track without panting at the end. But thanks for caring about me.
anybody else?? Please help

I have found the people that have noticed the most are ones that I haven't seen in awhile.  I had about 15  family members over a few weeks ago some of which I hadn't seen since Feb. and only my sister in law that I hadn't seen a few months noticed!!  I've lost 25 pounds since the end of February and honestly, very, very few people have commented on my weight loss!!  I went from a size 10-12 to a size 6-8.  That's a pretty radical difference.  I went from 165 lbs. to 140 lbs and am 5' 6" tall.  I do wish more people would notice, but I am very proportioned and lost weight all over so I am just a smaller version of my old self.

Just remember that you're losing weight for you, not for everyone else!!  You are doing yourself a big favor losing weight and becoming more healthy.

Keep up the good work!
Nobody noticed much for me even at 25 pounds lost except my parents, but now with 29 pounds lost, EVERYBODY is noticing. I don't get it, but that's how it's happened.
thanks guys. I have not seen my friend almost all summer so hopefully when I go back to school they will notice!!
photojen:  I have to say, your comments are a bit deluded. 13 is no longer the same as it used to be. 13 year olds no longer go outside and "play." Sure, I can see where you're coming from, but she never asked for a lecture, only advice.
I think she's very mature for making the decision to change her lifestyle to benefit her health. Notice: Her goal weight is far more healthy for her height, not an illusion that she needs to be anorexic skinny.
I've lost 46 lbs (from 188 to 142), no one noticed till about 20 lbs--but I bet when you go back to school EVERYONE will notice.  And that's really motivating!  You're smart to come to grips with this at your age (I'm 53)--but I see why photojen is a little worried.  Hope you combine your great attitude with some kind of exercise you like, you've got many healthy years to go and you'll look great!
last time i lost my weight... my husband did not notice till i was about 15lbs down... but this time i have just lost 5 lbs and my mother who saw me after about 15 days noticed it right away...
thanks so much guys it was motivating and now I am actually a little excited to get back to school!!!

Your family might not notice because they see you all the time.  I've lost about 6 or 7 lbs since the beginning of summer and people who I haven't seen in a while notice.  My mom only notices because I tell her everyday. Haahahah

People might start noticing around 6-10 pounds.  For me, they noticed around that time, but not everybody said anything.  They might just be acting polite or something... who knows!  If your pants are a little looser, then YOU noticed, and that's what's important to keep your motivation up!

We're pretty similar in stats (5'3", 134 pounds down from 142, goal of 125) so I am going to friend you! :)

Im one of the worst offenders, being extremely unobservant.  Ive asked where a coworkers is only to learn they quit 3 weeks ago.

With weight, by the time I notice its usually because of a drastic difference so when I ask im told a huge amount of weight loss.  Seeing someone daily makes it so much harder for me to pick up on it but still it has to be major for me to even notice so Im very understanding of others not noticing it with me.

I didn't even notice the weight loss on myself until I'd lost 15lbs. Unfortunately, I usually lose a bra size first, then in my face and hands and arms. So most other folks won't notice. Also, I'm still wearing my "fat" clothes (large, loose, Coldwater Creek stuff), so it's probably hard for others to notice. I have noticed that some of my waist fat has shrunk, but not enough that anyone else would notice.

I usually carry my weight better than most folks, so I have a feeling they won't really notice until I've lost 35 or 40. I still have a ways to go (need to lose 60 more to make my goal weight of 150).
people will notice in time. family who sees you everyday have seen it happen gradually so maybe when they see an older pic of you it will click and theyll say something. however, at that age girls are pretty caddy and i bet some will notice and not say anything out of jealousy. and the guys they might notice too but they prob will keep it to themselves. i dont think guys are one to come up and be like "heeeeey skinny minny!" lol keep with it. and dont sound so discouraged! its not as important that other's compliment you and validate your work as it is for you to notice youre determination and results. keep up the good work.

I think that maybe at 13 all you need to do is stop drinking pop and eating sweets and well, eat the less fatty stuff you can, but I just think you are too young to do diets, and as someone else said before, you are still growing and that is a huge help, eating healthy without stressing about it is the solution to lose weight in a healthy way while your body keeps growing.

also, when I lost weight it took like 12 pounds before people started noticing, I was so happy I lost the weight that I was enjoying it way before anyone else noticed, I just felt better with my body and with myself.
Nobody said anything until I lost about 20 pounds. For me, I find 10 lbs = about 1 size. But I'm 5'9" so it probably won't take so much for you.
