why are some people so ugly?
maybe it doesn't make them feel better to cover up their imperfections and they've learned to accept themselves the way they are. similar to the person who has a crooked nose and decides not to get a nose job even though they can afford it.
i personally like the way i look more with makeup, so i too put it on for myself. however, i realize that not everyone feels the same way.
'Cuz they don't give a flying **** at a rolling donut what anyone else thinks?
I have a lot more respect for them than the women who go through two hours of prep time to go grocery shopping.
Edit: Dude, wtf... the original question was "Why do women not bother with makeup", not "why are people ugly". Hardcore bait and switch. Seriously douche-a-riffic move.
Because not everyone is that into appearances. Not to say it's wrong or shallow, but not everyone wants to focus on that. I, for one, focus on how I feel and make up does nothing to make me feel good about myself. I love perfumes, lotions, being clean and smelling nice but putting stuff on my face makes me feel phony, unclean (especially with foundations and powders). I know i don't speak for everyone, but it is a matter of what makes me feel good. And if I were to use those cosmetics that I really hate, it would be for someone else (like those who might judge people who don't wear make up just like they do) and not for my own comfort or happiness. And that is just not ever going to happen. I am too old to give a crap who is judging me for something that silly

you said it ALL right there....
because they're not doing it for other people... they feel fine just the way they are.
in my opinion... i think make up makes you look so much older than you really are. i'm not saying that i don't wear makeup... because i do curl my eyelashes and occasionally put on mascera.... but i really don't need make up.
not only that... (i've never had a problem with acne) but have you seen how ugly acne looks with makeup over it? i think make up in those situations make the popmarks and oozzzzing pimples look WAY worse than if they'd just leave their skin alone and let it breathe

I said I do NOT wear makeup for others....I don't care if someone thinks I look ugly.
And again, I'm not talking about "two hours of prep time"...I'm talking about taking maybe 5 minutes each day to get yourself together. I think most women look worse when they cake on makeup.
The same reason men don't?
Acne is acne, you'll either see them as they are or see a lumpy face. I think the lumpy face looks far worse.
And having allergies + wearing make up is a bad combo. I hate not being able to rub my eyes in fear of smudging.
Make up makes you look like something you're not (naturally). This is why almost everyone looks better with make up on.
You put effort into your appearance because it makes you feel good, well some women may not need that kind of effort to feel good, maybe they already do. Or maybe they don't give a rat's ass what other people think of their appearance.
There's more to a woman than her face.
Make up is ridiculously expensive, even the drug stores ones! $10 for a tiny freakin' bottle of cover up uhhh... no.
If/when I wear make up, it's brown mascara ($5.99), brown (or black, rarely though) eye liner ($.99), eyebrow pencil to fill in the little gaps ($4.99 I think? Avons) and lip balm ($1.99)... that's it. I leave my acne out for the world to see! They're unavoidable (thanks ttom) and everyone has them or has had them at some point in their lives.
If it bothers you so much to look at their clean plain faces, turn your head.
I'm kind of surprised to see someone posting about women not wearing make-up over women wearing make-up. Imperfection is a beautiful thing. Sometimes that "I just woke up" look can be sexy as hell, even if you think they look tired.
Besides, covering bad acne can only make it worse. I'd rather wear my zits with pride until they clear up than worsen the situation so I can look a little more appealing to the public.
It's called character, you know?

I never said it bothers me....?
I was just curious and the responses make sense...I guess it's just a personal preference. Some people enjoy wearing makeup, others don't.
I guess to me, wearing makeup is the same thing as removing unwanted hair, lol. I get lip waxes and tweeze my eyebrows. I guess some people would call a unibrow "character," but I personally don't like it.
I don't wear makeup purely for myself.
I use to carry around an eyelash curler and lip gloss. That was my extent of makeup during the day. I've since been using Lattisse and my eye lashes have gotten so long and darkened and thick..I don't even need mascara. If you guys haven't heard of it, you must check it out! The stuff is AWESOME and considering I spend my days in a gym..I can sweat and sweat and still have awesome looking eyes! So, now I just carry lip gloss. That's it. I only wear make up if I'm going out in the evenings but even then..nothing too drastic.

1. this^
2. I am a very you see what you get kind of person. No padded bras, colored contacts. or make up here; Probably not even hair dye when I go grey. (no criticism to anyone who does)
3. I am such a natural beauty that I want them the revel in my unadulterated glory.![]()
4. Have you looked at the ingredients in some of those things?
no one has said this?
i dont need makeup, i dont wear it bc im gorgeous without it!
lol, and bc i just dont care enough
Because I don't like the feel of makeup on my face. I have sensitive skin and can only use certain products. Anything with a scent in it will make me itch and break out.
Yes they make hypo alergic products, but who has that kind of make up and what if I end up itching anyways?
Scratches at face while preparing your morning coffee, pretty site ain't it.
I also don't like the feel of makeup on my face. I always feel a layer, and when I smile, it feels like my face is cracking - and I put it on very lightly, going for the whole "Is she even wearing makeup look". And I HATE scratching an itch and leaving a layer of makup under my nails - and like spoiled_candy, it makes me itch, and mascara makes my eyes dry out. I also am sensitive to scents, so I often don't wear perfume or anything that smells.
I keep my nails short because they bug me when they are long, not to mention creating a hiding place for germs. I don't wear nail polish because it peels right off with the first shower.
I keep my hair in a ponytail because, hey, I never learned how to tolerate it around my face, or how to style it so it looks good. I really needed an older sister, I guess!
I admit, I am a bit of a slob - more comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt than anything else - always have been and probably always will be. But I have a problem dressing non-functionally or expensively, especially now that I have little kids.
I think, perhaps, you have a different standard of effort in appearance than I do. The days I DON'T make an effort, I don't brush my hair or my teeth, take a shower, I wear holey, stained shirts and knit pants/shorts, and don't even put my contacts in.

Average cost of Latisse is $130.
Yikes! I wear glasses and only use mascara on my lower lashes (can't really see the top ones in glasses), I think I'll stick to my cheap mascara that does exactly what that does for sooo much less. ![]()
Edit: What does eyelash curlers do anyway? I have one, I use it and NOTHING changes. I don't even see a difference when others use it (youtube how to make up vids). I don't understand it's purpose as the lashes look exactly the same before and after. ![]()
Good to know: Latisse eyelash lengthening is not permanent. Possible side-effects include discoloration of the eye or eyelid.
Scary that make up has side effects.
Why even make this post? Of course you're doing it for others, OP. Would you walk around inside your own home if you lived alone with a face full of makeup because it made you feel more confident? You feel more confident around others when you're covered up, or whatever. Ugh. Leave people alone. If you want to do it, that's fine. If another person doesn't want to cover up their acne, leave them be. You seem totally appearance focused. Not EVERYBODY is.
because I don't have that kind of commitment :)
When a woman wears makeup, chances are their appearence is enhanced, but I feel when one wears makeup for a while, and then suddenly doesn't (ex. they didn't have time), thier natural appearence looks worse than I viewed it before they had even started wearing makeup at all, if that makes sense? It's like, you set a higher standard after you start wearing it normally.
and anyway, I also feel I don't need it. My skin's not loaded with zits and I have naturally long, black lashes. I like my natural beauty :)
Though, I can understand that some people like to wear it. It's all in the person.
I spend minimal time staring at myself in the mirror (just enough to brush my teeth, etc.). I'll put on makeup if I'm dressing up but otherwise, as far am I'm concerned, it's a waste of time and money. Plus, it tends to make me break out. I'd rather have clear non-itchy skin and not wear makeup than wear makeup that messes up my skin.
Makeup is fake...
You can put effort into your appearance and be who you really are. You can cut your hair, brush your teeth, wear nicer clothes, keep fit.... but none of those things are hiding the person or fake.
Its like women who wear wigs... also, fake.
Just seems like cheating to me. Instead of fixing the problems and actually being healthier (eating better, taking care of skin better) ...people just find ways to trick everyone into thinking they are.
