2 % body loss but zero pounds, should I be happy?

Quote  |  Reply

So I am nearly 28, female, 5'2'' and 213 lbs.  I got a personal trainer 2 months ago.  I have cut cardio down to 20 minutes of intervals 2x a week, lift weights (squats, bench press, rows, chest press, etc) three times a week and the trainer really pushes me and I started to train to walk a half marathon and last week walked a total of 18 miles.

I have been up and down the same 3 pounds this entire time.  I am frustrated so the trainer tested my body fat and its down 2 %.  So is my zero weight loss because I am replacing the body fat with muscle?

Should I really be happy with this outcome?  I have cut down my carbs, keep track of what I eat.  Basically, I have changed my lifestyle radically (i.e. no more pastries 3x a week).  So why is there no pound weight loss?  I am frustrated so I thought I would just throw this out to you guys.

Oh yeah, I'd be way happier with losing 2 percent body fat than two pounds. So many factors go into what your weight is (water retention, food, lack of bowel movements) but fat is fat!

Congrats to you for melting some of it off.

Thanks...I need to think about all the victories (i.e. clothes looser, body fat down, etc) and not that darn scale.

WOW WOW WOW!!!

I think you should be really proud of yourself! Just think- you are losing fat and replacing with MUSCLE! That means (if I remember correctly- you have lost weight- muscle is denser and "heavier" than fat- so even though the scale says you are still the same you aren't. You are slimmer and trimmer and more toned- and eventually the scale will go down!

Just don't let the silly number effect you- it's so deceptive... it's not your friend Cool...especially since I can guarantee you mustn't only feel trimmer your are trimmer... and your clothes must fit better and I bet everyone around you can see the difference!  And you are doing it the healthy way- you are getting rid of the bad and turning yourself into a healthy sporty babe! Slow and steady wins the race... rather take your time and do it the right way- then see the number on the scale plummit and then gain it all back again. Right?

I think it's a fab result-  Congratulations- and keep going!!!
