Is "99% fat-free" ground turkey really what it claims to be?
I have bought the Honeysuckle White ground turkey breast in the past once and have had this same issue. I decided to try it again but once more THIS happened.
After I had shaped it into a patty and cooked it, and taken a bite out of it, there were quite a few little round balls of rubbery, tough almost-clear substance. Is this turkey fat or just connective tissues and proteins? I have never had this happen with the Jennie-O turkey breast before.
I believe that would be gristle, which is cartildge I think. Or connective tissue. Not fat though. If it says it's 99% fat free, it most likely is. I think they can get in a lot of trouble for lieing about something like that.
I think that's probobly what it was. I just wonder why the Jennie-O turkey didn't have that...
If it had been fat it would have melted in the pan and you would have seen the fat running out of it. Heat melts fat, so there is no way it could stay solid like you described. It's definitely something else. Maybe it's a bit of that cartilidge type stuff that runs down the middle of the 2 breasts (you know the stuff i mean! i have no idea what its called).
