10% by Halloween Challenge (CLOSED)
(Note: This challenge is no longer accepting new participants.)
This is a 12-week challenge (starting on August 11, 2008) where participants will work toward losing 10% of their current body weight by Halloween.
Here's how it works:
- Weigh-ins: Weekly weigh-ins will occur on Mondays. That's right ... no more slacking off on the weekends.
- 1-3 rule: Participants are encouraged to comment on three other posts when they do their weekly weigh in post. This will ensure that each participant will get an adequate amount of support as they journey toward better health.
- Journals: Participants are encouraged to add other participants to their friends list and leave plenty of comments about their journal entries. Of course, it's also encouraged that each participant write their own journal entries.
Your weekly weigh in posts should appear in this format:
This week: XXX lbs.
Last week: XXX lbs.
Loss/Gain (week): XXX lbs.
To JohnnyAppleseed ... Crazy how much weight you can lose by just eating apples! Good job!
To PaulaDeanFan ... That butter will kill you. I sympathize with you as a fellow butter lover.
To CookieMonster ... I wish I had your willpower! Truly inspiring!
The results of the challenge will be tracked on this online spreadsheet.
Good luck to everyone in this challenge! I can't wait to see the transformations!

Down 2 pounds. Last week was my first gain this challenge and I'm still not "over it" LOL. I just feel stuck in a rut. I know how you feel, sax.
Way to go cordie!
WI - 185pds! so thats up like 3! BUT I was 181.6 when I left for chez moms on friday and I doubt I ate 12,250 calories over my daily burn this weekend. Guess I'll know for real next weigh in.
LW - 185
CW - 176.8
Loss - 8.2pds!
Just goes to show that binges are usually only water unless you give them a week to grow. Before turkey lurkey, I was 181 (2 weeks ago) so it makes sense to be down 4 from that. I didn't do much differently, I ate exactly 500 under my daily burn. But I have been sick with a cold this week and I haven't wanted food so I haven't been nibbling (still ate 1450 every day!) and I drank a truckload of green/ginger tea.
Cordie - Congrats, please throw out your coat tails so I can grab on!
Diva - I know it sucks to work so hard and not see a big loss but maybe your deficit is too high?
Rob - You will bounce back fearless leader
This Week: 154.2
Last Week: 156.8
Loss: 2.6lbs.
Hi rob,
I noticed that the spreadsheet has not been updated for me for the last two weeks, maybe because I'm on the west coast :P
I don't really care about last weeks GAIN
but this weeks LOSS, oh you bet I want it!
Holy guacamole Jett! 8.2 lb. loss!!! Yes, I suppose you deserve your spot on the spreadsheet. Sorry about not getting it updated sooner. Not sure what happened last week.
People love Christmas more than Halloween. That's cool. Whatever!
no it's not true! I posted something here and felt ignored too... I think everyone is hiding!
One week to go till Halloween!!
Now it I don't eat anything for the week do you think I'll make it or would my body go into starvation mode and make me gain weight? (LOL just kidding)
Well last night was my first day of eating maintennce. Yummy! My weight was still normal this morning so we'll just have to see how tommorrows weight is, and the next day and the next day. Ya know!
I over ate, and now I have bloat. I think I'll ease up on the eating a little today.
Last Week: 228.6

I can feel the plateau starting to become a downward hill. Anyone worried about all the halloween candy? I'm not too worried because most people don't give that great of stuff. At least not the stuff I like (Reese's Peanut Butter Cups). I'm not a candy kind of guy I guess.

Nice. I overate (A LOT) this weekend. Luckily it was pretty healthy stuff at my family's annual pumpkin day celebration. We all get together and carve pumpkins and eat. My aunt and uncle host and they make the best home made baked beans and bread pudding. I got a lot of compliments on the weight loss, and then they were all taken a back when I grabbed my third helping of the beans. I seriously love them.
Alexander: Glad to see the plateau is gone! I'm not so worried about the Halloween candy... I'm planning on only buying it the night before and then giving it all away the night of Halloween. It sounds bad but I might buy all the things I hate so there's less temptation.

Well... I've been eating maintenance cals since Thursday and sometimes going over. It's been nice. I'm going to try to rein it in a little more and see if I can lose a little more before or at least the .8lbs before Thursday when I head to Maine.
Candy's normally not a problem for me as long as I don't start!
Congratulations to those of us who are going down!

This reallly sucks! I'm sooo frustrated.I'm going to start eating my BMR and see if I can get some of this weight off. I do know that I am gaining muscle, I can see definition in my thighs and stomach area, so that helps a bit, as far as keeping me motivated to stay with losing weight.
Jett: I think u are right, my deficient is wayyy to big. Starting today, Im upping my cals...
Jammi: Good job on the loss![]()
Alex: Nice to see ya break that plateau, hopefully next week, I will be breaking mines....![]()
Last week: 181.4

Loss: 3 Lbs!!!!
It looks like I am finally out of my plateau. And that makes me very very happy, as does, as does being under 180 again. I don't think I have weighed this little since High school, and maybe the first year of college.
alexanderrob: Congrats on breaking out of your plateau!
jamminatorr: Excellent loss this week, especially since you ate more then normal this weekend.

Jamminator, that is an awesome idea for halloween candy. Children of Chicago, I hope you are pumped to get some Circus Peanuts in your sacks this weekend! Hahahaha. Maybe I'll give out apples. I have no problem being that lady.
I said this stuff in my journal, but stress and being overbooked have kind of made eating the only fun thing I do lately. I'm cutting myself a little slack for a job well done so far and actually trying to enjoy it when I have a treat and not ruin it by punishing myself afterwards, but I still need to keep a close eye on it so it doesn't get out of hand.
saxkat - Wahoo for you! 3 pounds is awesome.
diva - I hope your new strategy gives you some results. It's about time for you to get some encouragement! From the scale this time instead of just us :)
leanne - you always have a pretty awesome attitude. I think a more conservative week before your big trip sounds like a nice and achievable idea.

Super frustrated...I keep just going up and down around this mark.
I am going to have to create a better eating and exercise plan and be more tough on myself to stick to it I guess. I don't know what to do though. I do eat fairly well, I know I don't exercise enough but I do what I can when I can. I have no one to do it with. I am ready to just quit even trying because my weight never changes to any great degree.
My bf needs to lose/tone and has no desire to do so...this is really frustrating to me as well. If we were both working on being healthy it would be so much easier. It's not that he sabotages me, just makes it hard to stay on track
I am upset because I can't afford a gym...I just can't right now. When I am not committed to something at night I have very little energy in the evenings and can't drag myself out of bed in the mornings. I am feeling very stressed (work and personal life) lately and I just don't know what to do to change things.

Gain of that stupid 2 pounds again. Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I was distracted with actual work (grin) and couldn't lurk as I normally do. I cannot believe that this challenge is winding down. Wow and congratulations to everyone that stuck it out to the end, even if some of us did not reach our goal. It is quite an accomplishment for me to stick with anything this long so I am patting myself on the back.

Halloween Challenge Total: 11.2 lbs. lost
Not surprising considering I ate some huge meals and a lot of mini candy bars. So much for thinking the Halloween candy wouldn't be a problem for me.
Congratulations to all who stuck with the Halloween Challenge the entire 12 weeks!
