perfect measurements 5'9"

I like the thread about measurements and I want to see what your idea of the ideal measurements would be for a tall girl...

Thanks

Supermodels like Adriana Lima, Kate Moss, and Gisele Bundchen are genetic anomalies.  Some people remain relatively skinny, even if they eat a lot.  Men like Pee Wee Herman, Lou Holtz, and Woody Allen, although they might get a "gut," still would be skinnier than men like Drew Kerry, John Goodman, and Jack Black.  The bottom line is that we can eat healthy and exercise intelligently, but then we have to let our genetics dictate our body built.

This is funny. I'm 5'8 1/2", 158lbs. I don't understand why you all think its unralistic to have a waist of 24-25 inches. My waist is smaller than that. My measurements are 36-22-36. And don't worry, I know how to eat.

Well, nomitl - I think you're probably blessed with great genetics.  I think I weigh around 150, and I'm 5'9".  My waist would probably measure at 30 or 31 because that's where I carry a lot of my weight.  I've never had a particularly small waist.  So, lucky you!! :)

I think in most cases having a waist of 24-25 inches is difficult to obtain, however there are always exceptions to the rule!

I'm 5'10.. and whilst my comfortable weight is around 125 pounds, I have been as low as 115 when I was working out every day and eating around 1400 a day.

My measurements are 34 - 24/25 - 34/35

Ultimately I am proof is possible to be naturally skinny, if i was being paid as a model to be 115 god know i'll be that... now my comfortable weight doesn't involve more than working out 3 x a week for an hour, low impact cardio like on my stepper to music. I eat more than most girls I know (and my male roommate!) but i defintely just eat constantly throughout the day as opposed to forced huge meal times.. and i guess this keeps my body metabolism constantly busy. I walk to and fro work every day, its' 15 mins each way.

My typical breakfast is cereal and vanilla milk... and i live ten minutes away from whole foods so we grab most dinners from the deli there.

I eat some form of dessert every day! usally all the crust of  pies/ cake lol :)

This is not some bs post, i hate people who do that.. i know most of my friends are also slim or skinny, and i can safely say its because we are boring, and eat the same thing day after day, to live as opposed to for enjoyment or as a social activity. We always eat at home etc

Ha!  I wish I could get down to 125.  The lowest I've ever been (in my adult years) is 130 - and that was after getting a divorce, being left with no car, and having to walk everywhere!  So, I'm definitely jealous of anyone who is "naturally skinny"!  I absolutely have to watch what I eat or I'll blow up like the good year blimp!

So far it hasn't happened, but I'm getting a little older!  Ugh!

Hmm these threads always confuse me because I see girls who I think look thinner than me with bigger measurements than me.  Right now my bust is a pitiful 32/33" (very small chested), my waist is 25", and my hips are 34".  I am also 5'8.5" and I weigh 135-138 lbs.  I think I just have a weirdly proportioned body because I have a very small waist but pretty big thighs and butt so I guess my numbers are off a bit.  I certainly don't think I'm the ideal (but I'm okay with how I look) and I think that the ideal is different for everyone depending on their body type.  Some people my height look amazing at 160 and some look great at 120.  It just depends on your frame and muscle tone.  That's what I'm still trying to work on myself, I don't really care if I lose that much more weight, I would just like to be more toned overall.

youre soo right, weight and measurements are a weird thing. i know girls who weight a lot less tan me with bigger measurements and vice versa. i guess like me you have a pear shape which makes a huge difference in the way you look.. as i know people always assume i am thinner because i have a small bust.

oh hun i didn't mean to imply i dont watch what i eat, i am just saying once you find a good healthy diet and stick to it repetitively its hard to gain weight. i find i gain on holiday as my diet changes and even when i think i am eating less (calorie wise) maybe its more carbs or fat or something but i always gain. even if i only eat veges for the rest of my life, i feel like if i didnt cook it, or get it from my specific deli section, ill get fat lol.

I'm sorry!  I didn't mean to imply that you don't have to try!  Perhaps you have more willpower.  Everytime I try to stick to a repetitive diet, I totally fall off the wagon!  I can only eat the same foods day after day for so long.

I can understand a little bit how if you didn't cook it or don't get your food from a specific place, then you'll get fat.  However, I'm not sure if it's so much that I think I'll get fat, but I do get paranoid about what's in my food.  I know what's in it if I make it myself!  And if I do eat out, everything gets modified!  I think I'm an extremely frustrating persont eat out with ;)...

It's taken me a long time, but I've gotten past the mentality where I compare myself to every "perfect body" that I see.  I've accepted the fact that I have a particular genetic build, and I just want to be the best me!

So should you :)

Okay I'm 5'9 and I have a 30inch waist and 33-34 inch hips! Basically straight up and down ruler! I find that I have a large frame and that even if I put on a few pounds it means clothes fit really weird and i have to go up a size.

I think you and I are built the same way!  I'm definitely not in the "hour glass shape" club!  I'm pretty much straight up and down, too, and have the same issues with buying clothes.  *sigh*

I am 5'9'', 166-170 pounds and my measurements are 38-30-38. It's interesting to see that majority of people in this thread are much lighter in weight but not as much in measurements. I am trying to picture myself at 130 pounds, i can't even imagine what my measurements would be...

Yeah i think we're all pretty tall and our bones are probably similarly positioned (depending on body shape of course). I am sometimes shocked to find out what my girlfriends weigh in comparison, and know girls who weigh up to 15 pounds more and LESS than me but still wear the same size jeans ?!

I guess when you think about things like our hipbones, the measurements around can't change much unless you have extra, extra padding.

Yeah, I've heard of girls who weigh the same or even a little more than me at my height, and wear a smaller size than I do or have smaller measurements.  It's so annoying!  Lol.

That's why, when we're trying to lose weight, we need to take into account how our body is built and not aspire to look like someone else.

Does that make sense?

let's also remind ourselves that 5'10 and 125 pounds is underweight so shooting for these measurements will likely cause someone severe malnutrition and health complications. i don't see why someone who is "naturally thin" would even be on this site since natural implies that without effort, you can maintain your svelte physique, but at this weight you are in fact underweight by BMI standards and CC promotes healthy weight management which this does not seem to be. I'm not attacking you so please don't take it the wrong way but i think that eating 1400 calories a day to be 115 pounds is an indication that you probably continue to count calories to maintain your underweight 125 pound build, so i doubt that it is your "happy" weight since most people happy weight DOES fall into the healthy weight range with FEW EXCEPTIONS.

Please read everything properly before you decide to pass judgement.

My calorie intake at my lowest weight was an estimate, i did not say I was counting.

I said my 'comfortable' weight in my skin is 125, I wrote about my diet habits to stay this way, I say i am naturally skinny because although I watch what i eat i do not do so in any extreme ways to maintain this weight, and just try to be healthy.

If 125 is a number that scares you so much, that's your problem, not mine.

Are you a morderator? Why do i deserve to belong to this site any less than you?

Indication that i probably continue to count... OKAY THANK YOU PERSON IN MY KITCHEN, again, did you read anything i said? I never counted, and don't ''continue'' to. I eat healthy everyday, and most of my dinners from whole foods. I mention how boring my diet is and how I think it affects my weight.. In fact i even went as far as to mention that if i was away and ate different foods, and then decided to count, I am sure i will probably gain weight.. because i think my body has gotten used to certain things, it has never been about calories.

I hate people who come here to pass judgement as opposed to help others. If you read this thread you will notice some people weight more and less than i do and it has been lesss about weight than about measurements.

Maybe you did not mean to be rude.

However, i FEEL like your whole post was just an attack without basis. So yes, you were rude.

Don't know about the measurements but toned arms and shoulders are nice on tall girls.

milly87: wow.  a bit defensive?  chrissy was simply trying to point out that you are underweight.  that's an objective statement, not a judgment.   there is no such thing as a "natural" weight.  you weigh what you weigh because of how much you eat and how much exercise you do.  those things are malleable and within your control.  there is nothing inherent or pre-destined about them.  so the fact that you maintain a low weight for your height, by definition, means that YOU are doing something to make that happen.  as you mentioned, you follow some pretty predictable habits with regard to your eating.  habits allow you to maintain a certain weight without the constant concern of counting.  so the fact that you don't exert a ton of effort in your habits just means that they are, well, habitual.

i have brown hair.  if someone tried to tell me that my hair was blonde, i wouldn't get upset.  if someone tried to say that i spent a lot of time trying to make my hair blonde or that my hair was unhealthy, i wouldn't get upset.  why?  because none of these things are true.  your level of defensiveness in response to chrissy's post suggests you've got something stinky in your closet.  so go deal with that.  in a "natural" way.

Don't live by bmi standards - don't care to be called underweight.

Thank you all for your objectivity.

You say there's no such thing as a natural weight, which is fair enough... However you acknowladge my diet is habitual... I always assumed having habits was natural? I am definitely a creature of habit, which has served me well in all other aspects of my life.. career etc.. I always thought doing something (in regards to diet) that fit in with my personality was 'natural'.. hence my use of the word.

I still think my 'defensiveness' was just. Simply because I did not like her implication that I shouldn't be here due to her own height/weight standards.

well, chrissy didn't create the concept of bmi and is certainly not the only one to use them as a basis for determining healthy weight range.  in fact, the diagnostic manual that classifies psychological disorders using a similar standard as part of it's criteria for anorexia nervosa.  so, you can disagree with it if you like, but chrissy didn't develop or decide to enforce it.  habits aren't natural.  our bodies are adaptive and can learn to adaptive to certain things, but they can do so to a LARGE range of behaviors and environments.  the fact that you have developed certain habits is still something YOU control.  our bodies follow because it's generally efficient for them to adjust to the environment they are in.  but that in no way means the environment itself is healthy.  and we, as humans, have a lot of control over our environments and what we do in them.  your personality drives you to develop certain habits much more than habits "fit" personalities.  and personalities are only partially determined by genetics...and even saying that genetic=natural is another area for some debate.  my point is that i think it's not accurate to hide behind behaviors as if they are natural or predestined.  you're doing the choosing and your body will reflect your choices...and the same rule applies to everyone else.  i encourage you to OWN your choices.  chrissy was simply pointing out that YOUR choices are probably not something that a website aimed at healthy behaviors should promote because YOUR choices have resulted in you being underweight.  you can hang onto that as being OK for you, but it becomes an issue when you try to suggest that it could/should be OK for others because for most people that would mean choices that ARE unhealthy.  fair enough?

Hi!

I kind of skimmed through the last few posts, so hopefully I don't say anything out of line or inaccurate!

I didn't take chrissy's comments as being judgmental or meant to offend.  I think she was just going on what the standards are for the majority.  We all know there are exceptions to ever rule, and I don't think milly has said enough about her eating habits to know whether or not what she's doing is unhealthy, or if part of it may be due to genetics or the way her body functions.

Whether or not the fact that someone is underweight is stated, I don't see it as a judgment or a means of pointing out something negative.  It is what it is!  I've known plenty of girls in the past who could eat like horses and still be thin for their height!  I have no idea what most peoples personal habits are, but even if someone points out that they're below a healthy weight - they're not trying to change you or assume they know who you are.  They're just stating a fact - no matter what the underlying circumstances may be!
