Yep, I'm hungrier during TTOM. I did better this month than I usually do, but I still averaged 200 calories more a day than my goal. I tried to make sure I filled up on healthier stuff, but I still did things like eat over 1 lb grapes in one sitting.

200 calories over is NOTHING.  man, im goin over 2000 calories a day

I def have a problem the week before I start...ugh I hate it but I havent had to go through it just yet with this new calorie counting...yikes!

Yup...uber hungry...I am irrelgular but I know when its coming because out of the blue while I am driving down the road...I see a cow and my mouth starts to water...and yup...it arrives within twenty four hours after consuming said cowSmile

For me it's always the week before I start too....this month and last month I didn't do so well.  I ate well over maintenance for four or five days and ended up gaining two pounds last time and one and a half this time. (Not just water weight, either!)  Thank goodness I was exercising because otherwise it probably would have been three or four pounds.

My resolution is to do better next month--I'm starting right now to prepare myself mentally and plan for another snack or two per day so that I don't get overhungry and go crazy again!

If it makes anyone feel any better, I've read multiple sources that cite studies of women's energy burn during her menses. The average was 300 calories extra a day.

yes, absolutely huge appetite the week before so I just try to maintain that week.  Cravings for "bad" stuff and all.  Oh well, just get back on the horse again

im the opposite!! my appatite is gone for the week before and the week during mine, and i dnt eat much at all, but the week after, its bigger, i guess im catchin up on nt eatin too much before?

my stomach still goes huge tho even tho i dnt eat that much

yup!!!

I get super hungry and emotional couple of days-week before my period.

I also get HUGE cravings for sweets, ie. ice cream from dairy queen!!

Its totally normal, i suggest giving in to your cravings in moderation!

And I definately just feel like constantly eating, so I always have cucumber slices and carrots to fill me up

I actually did surprisingly well!! I think my eating habits and excercise has really helped with my pms and food cravings. I haven't had any this time around. This is my first time calorie counting during a period. So Im glad to see that it's benefitted from being more healthy. But, maybe its coming yet, I don't know...

Silly question: Does this only apply to adult? Can a 10-15 years old eat more before/during her period??

Oh it was only 200 over this month - before I started tracking everything here I bet I was eating twice what I needed to during that week.  It wouldn't have been unusual for me to have a large breakfast burrito, tater tots, and cream pie shake for breakfast, a donut or two when I got to work, a 12 oz bag of tortilla chips through the day for snacks, 4 slices of pizza and breadsticks for lunch, maybe tacos or a double cheeseburger for 2nd lunch, and 3 plates at a chinese buffet for dinner.

YES I get major cravings for chocolate etc. and usually gain weight round that time, even if I DON'T over-indulge. Being a girl is hard >.<

yeah, you're pretty much normal.  i used to think that i was the only one, but my friends all agree that pms time is binge time.  i just started my diet yesterday, so i have a few weeks to go before i have to deal with it again, but i was on a calorie counting diet a few years ago and i remember it all.

the good news is that even with 10 or so periods during that time, i managed to lose 30 pounds.  all i can say is make sure you keep careful track of your calories, and set aside maybe 500 calories to fight cravings.  100 calorie packs are great for that, even better now because there are so many more these days than when dieted before!  i even saw some kind of cheesecake bar by the granola bars.  it's crazy.

cereal is really good when you have pms, esp when you crave sweets.  it's low-cal, high in fiber, high in vitamins, and it really fills you up.  plus you get all that calcium from the milk, which can help you burn more calories.

remember, even if you go over for a few days, it's not the end of the world.  take it one day at a time.  that's all any of us can do.  good luck!!!

I definitely eat more during and about a week leading up to my period. It's usually chocolate and comfort foods like french bread with peanut butter and chinese food. I can eat from 2000-3000 extra calories a day, but I usually try not to worry about it too much - I feel much worse if I DON'T have the food than if I do have it!
