Getting your period back

Quote  |  Reply
I know, aren't these wonderful topics to read, lol.

I got my period back a month ago after losing it for a year. Before I lost it, I would be very regular and could always tell the day I was going to have it. But it's been over a month... For those of you who have lost their period due to an ED and gotten it back, was your period regular when it started again?

The period I had last month was very light, and there wasn't any red blood, just a bit of the lovely brown gunk. Lol, I'm really sorry this post is so upfront, but I'd love to hear from anyone who's gone through this or is currently going through it.

unfortunetly *sorry* i dont have an answer for you lol. but ive not had my period in 2 maybe more? months and i would love to hear the answer to this question so i thought id give it a *bump*

=)

I'll let you know in two weeks.  I got mine back 2 months ago.  The first one was like you described.  The 2nd was definitely more like a real period with actual blood and praise the lord I even used tampons.  But it still wasn't like it used to be.  My doctor did say not to get upset if it wasn;t regular at first, so you're probably just adjusting still. I'm hoping this month it will be even closer to like my old periods.

i shouldn't have read this while i'm eating...

lol

LMAO carmenxox!!!  I was thinking the same exact thing!

*puts green-chili stew aside to eat LATER*
LOL, sorry for any meals or snacks I've spoiled. Maybe I should have put a warning label?

And thanks for the reply minie, I guess I'll have to be patient. Not that I'm exactly weeping over my unopened box of tampons..

lol ok done eating now...

all I can say for me is that before the ED and at my highest weight my period was NEVER regular, I would get it like every 3 months or 2 times a month, so lame... but now ever since I got it back, it is very regular... it's really weird for me. I don't have "exact" dates, but every month around the 20th-25th I expect it.. in fact I know I am going to have it very soon, I have been all crampy, moody and bloated today... IT SUCKS! :P

hey muttlover--
oh my gosh---so glad you posted your question---even though you thought it was TOO MUCH INFO. I am SOOoo grateful that you did! I too am JUST beginning to get my period back after NOT having it for like,....over a year!!!
You don't know how RELIEVED I was to hear that your not really having a TRUE period yet-just the "brown gunk" cause I thought something was WRONG with me!!! I JUST got my very first...umm----"semi-period" last week and it had that gunk. YICK---but i was grateful to at LEAST have signs of SOMETHING after SOOooo long without it!! Never thought I'd be happy to have  a period!! :)
Mine was always pretty irregular BEFORE my anorexia and LOSING my period,...so I'm expecting that it will be pretty off and on for awhile ya know? Cause even last week when I got it,...it DIDN'T follow the correct timing of my birth control. I'm not worried though, I'm sure it will be like that until my body regulates again. :)
   GOOD LUCK! :)

hey girls,

just wondering- for those of you who managed to get your periods back after an ED or being underweight, are you referring to with or without birth control aids? were any of you able to get it back without birth control?

Is it just when you're underweight that you lose it or is it when you're overweight too?  I've not been regular for a while, but its the opposite of not having one :-(
dragoncomet00 - if you're saying your period lasts for a very long time and/or is very heavy...  I would check with your doctor.  That *could* be a sign of fibroids (my mom had it) or endemetriosis (several family members have had it).

Thanks for the info lb0802 I guess I'd better do that.  It didn't start to be heavy till after I got heavy though.

Same thing happened to me.  My first one was very light, almost like no period at all, and I almost thought it wasn't one.  It was still irregular for a few months, but it's getting more normal as time goes on.  Give it time, and congrats on getting it back!

First I would like to say congratulations on getting healthy again after your ED to all of the ladies!!  That is quite and accomplishment and even though I know it is a long road and still a struggle keep up the great work!!

Now to the part that isn't so great--lol.  You have to remember what yor bodies have gone through... that blood has been sitting dormant in yur body for a long time and we all know that blood coagulates and clumps together when the happens.  It's like when you get a scab only it stay moist because it's in your body and of course it a lot bigger.  The reason it is light the 1st time is because you body has a lot of work to do to break that down and it may take quite a few periods to get back to normal.

Congrats lileberly! And thanks, it makes me feel better too knowing someone's going through the same thing.

asics I got my period back on my own without birth control. :) So that was a relief to me.

Now what worries me is, I was due for a period this week. I got symptoms, like a couple pimples and like... feeling nasty down there, lol. But no blood, no nothin'- not even the brown gunk! I have been exercising now to strengthen my heart muscle, so could that be it? Or do you think it's just going to be irregular? :\

Thanks for all the replies girls, you've made me feel so much better!

I haven't had a real one since July, though I have spotted last month (December) and this month (January). I now weigh the most I have ever weighed (180lbs) and have been on medication for high blood pressure for 4 years.

This is only the second time I have gone without a period for this long. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2003. I had put on 30lbs over two years... my first two years of college.

For those of you who've gotten your period back (esp. without birth control), do you know what your BMI and/or body fat were?

Also, how about exercise? I'm afraid that i'm doing too much and stressing my body too hard.

My BMI is 18.3 (up from 16.6) and I think my Fat% is around 19 or 20.  does this sound reasonable??

I got my period just today in fact. I recently got over an ED. My first period since the ED was back in December and lasted quite long (nearly 5-7 days!). I had a period again in January (very light, 2 days) but totally skipped February which had me quite alarmed. But at long last it has come again today.

Cat-girl, I think that menses comes back at different times for every woman. As for me, my BMI is about 19.7 and my calculated body fat percentage is around 18 or 19. I've pretty much maintained at this size for quite a long while and I eat very well and balanced at about 1500-1700 calories. I don't exercise at all, very sedentary, though I'd like to be more active. But I'm thinking of starting off slow, to see exactly how much I'll have to raise my caloric intake in order to support any extra physical activity. I don't want to lose my period ever again due to nutritional deficiencies.
