How do I get my period back?
Asked by anonymous on Jul 29, 2009 in Weight Loss

I haven't had a period in 6 months. I went to the doctor, who told me nothing was wrong with me. I am 5'8, 20 years old, and 127 lbs. I don't think I'm underweight. In the past year, I've lost 30 lbs gradually over 12 months, but I've been at this weight for about two months and I don't plan on going any lower. I eat from 1700-2100 calories a day. How do I get my period back? Are there certain foods I should eat more of/avoid?

Answer

At 5’8”, 127 lb, your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 19.3, which is at the lower end of the healthy weight range.  With a medium frame, you should probably weigh around 140 lb.  Either way, 1700 calories is too low for maintenance.  Eat 2000 calories a day.  There are no particular foods you should add or avoid.  Just eat a balanced diet.
