period blunder...where is it?!

Quote  |  Reply

hey guys,

i would really appreciate some feedback.  here are some stats first

age: 18  (female)

weight: 136

calories in a day: 1500 (bc i have been trying to lose weight)      &n bsp;

 so heres the deal. around grade ten i started the "super fun" binge and purge cycle and have been doing it on and off for three years.  I lost my period then and It came back about a year ago but hasnt come back.  I am recovering from it now and havent done it for a while.  But whats weird to me is that I was never that skinny, I was at about 120 when i started and eventually gained up to 150.  Even when I was at 150 I didnt get "it".  My impression was that a  person only lost their period when they lose to much weight??? I need to know if this is abnormal for someone recovering from an eating disorder or if I should see a doctor.

thanks so much guys, any information is appreciated.

anyone recovering form an ED should see a doctor because there are often complications that are not even visible and should be tested for. also, you failed to give your height so we don't know what is a healthy weight for you. sometimes the weight that is "healthy" to get your body functioning again is higher than it was prior to the ED. I hope this helps =]

oh ha, right, thanks alot!

i should probably get on that. Im super scared to go though. thankyou:)

don't be scared...you should be more anxious to make sure nothing is wrong...it will give you confirmation and make it easier to understand your body. :)

thank you so much, thats awesome advice. Smile

How long have you been recovering? I'm a teenager like you. I dieted for a year, and although I never dropped below 1300 cals a day or even BMI 20, my period has been screwed ever since. It returned just recently, and I think all it takes is a few months of normal eating.

well its only been about a month that I have been serious about it.  its good to know im not the only one! I think I'll check tkhings out with my doctor just in case, but that may very well be what I need.  thanks guys:)
