period and breastfeeding question

Quote  |  Reply

I am still breastfeeding my nearly 2 year old.  I go to work during the day and breastfeed in the morning and evening.  I had been taking the pill, but quit in November because I was getting a lot of migraines and was afraid of having a stroke (my sister who is a PA would not prescribe the pill to me because I have auras with my migraines which increases chances of stroke).  Anyway I had been having my period with the pill, but since quitting I have not had one.  I'm just wondering if this is normal.  With my other 2 kids I breastfed over a year and still had my period after about a year even with breastfeeding.  Anyone else period free while breastfeeding?

It's been 12 1/2 years for me but I did not get a period while breastfeeding.  Several months after I stopped is when my period resumed.  I believe I resumed taking my pills before.  Sorry its been a whileEmbarassed

Yep!

I had no period while breastfeeding my daughter 4 years ago. As a matter of fact, I didn't even start my period after I stopped breastfeeding @ 6 months. When I went in for my annual physical when my daughter was 16 months old, my doctor finally gave me a pill that would force my period to resume. After that, I started taking birth control pills again to regulate my cycle.

I am currently breastfeeding my almost 5-month-old son and have yet to start my period. I am on the mini-pill (I wasn't taking this after my daughter's birth) and have been since my 6 week postpartum checkup.

I don't think it's abnormal to not have a period while breastfeeding. My doctor didn't think it was a big deal the first time around.

Are congratulations in order?!

I breastfed my first for 2.5 years, and the second is coming up on 2 and a third. Not a single period missed. Dammit. My sister-in-law didn't restart her periods until she stopped breastfeeding at 9 months (if you see what I mean), but that's slightly different from your scenario. In addition, she's really, really thin (but I love her dearly).

Anyway. Did you change the pill for the rhythm method? It could get exciting!

Best wishes,

Jo.

I got my period when I cut down to two feedings a day at 11 months with my first daughter.  I stopped feeding her a little after her 1st birthday.  My second daughter will be 1 in 2 weeks and, just like last time, I got my period a month ago when we cut down to two feedings a day.  I've been on the mini pill since 3 months post partum and after getting that 'first' period, I am now finishing up the next pack and still no sign.  I am freaking out...so not ready for another kid yet!  Are you using any other protection?  I guess I would take a test to be sure (I think I may this weekend!)  If BFN then maybe your body is just getting used to no hormones and it will regulate itself soon.  G/L!

Mine came back after around 6 months of breastfeeding, when I introduced some solids to her diet.  I nursed all the way to one year old, and she hardly ever had formula.  I think it's normal.

dang it, i think i got cheated lol i bf my daughter and my son until they were just over a year old, exclusively. neither one ever had formula, didn't start any solids until 6months old, ect. and i got my period straight off the bat! no fair lol

then i had and iud put in...everyone said, including the doctor, that the chances of me having periods with it in were pretty slim....i've had a period every month! it's been in for 1 1/2 years now!

i guess unless pregnant i just don't get a break Laughing

Hmmm, well maybe I'll take a pregnancy test just to be sure !  Thanks for everyone's input.

I am breastfeeding my 5 month old son still, almost exclusivly, and still no periods.  I like that!  I do give him solids, but not enough to replace any feedings.  He gets no formula.  Breastfeeding rocks!

I had no idea that I would loose so much weight doing it either, a very nice side benefit.  I have lost almost 30 pounds now.

All 3 of mine were different. 1st child I started the pill right away and my period came back right away, 2nd child I quit nursing at 6 months period came back right away, 3rd child nursed  for 14 months and I didn't get my period back until 4 months after that!
