Period finally back (stopped breastfeeding 3 months ago)

I was never ever an every 28 days gal.  There were months and months that would go by and i would not have a cycle.  i knew i wasn't pregnant because i had infertility problems.  I didn't ovulate.  (PCOS)  I had my first period on my own (no induction by meds) on April 5th, 2007.  I was kind of excited that i didn't have to have medication to induce a period.  But then when i was in weight watchers about March of 2007 i would lose a bit then gain more back (i coudlnt understand i was following the program and not losing like i should be.  Well i found out i was pregnant my son is now 6 months old.  He weaned himself from the breast about 3 months ago.  Here it is he's 6 months old and i woke up this a.m. and i got my period.  I wonder if it's just because i have stopped breastfeeding or the 38 pounds i have lost since having him.  Now i wonder if i will have a regular monthly now?? What do you think??

I got my period back somewhere between 3-4 months after having my son. I hadn't lost any weight, and I was still breastfeeding. I think the body regulates itself, in a way, and it was just time for me to get my period again (same with you).

After I had my son, my periods were just as regular as before. Hopefully, you will have some regularity, but I really don't know since everyone is different. I do think, though, that having a baby kind of 'resets' your body in a way....if that makes any sense at all. I suppose you will have to wait a month or so to find out :)

edited to add: congrats on the weight loss!!! it took me almost two years (not that I was trying, though) to lose 33 lbs, and I am on my way to a prebaby weight (finally!!). So, good job! And congrats on the baby, too :)

Thanks Kelleigh!! We had to have fertility meds for me to even get pregnant with my other two children, so that in itself is a miracle i even had a baby on my own.  You may be right about resetting itself.  I hope maybe my body goes back to somewhat being normal and it would be cool after all these years to have a normal every 28 days cycle!!  (never had that before).  I have been working really hard to lose the baby weight.  Breastfeeding made it really easy to lose the baby weight i had gained.  Hopefully i will be thinner than when i met my hubby soon!! :)

I had my first period about 3-4 months after I had my daughter, too, and I was also still breastfeeding.  My periods were kind of weird after, though, some would be really light, and others would be long and heavy, and irregular.  If you never really had too much of a cycle, you will probably experience the same, especially since your son is still small.  I remember it took about a year for my body (and hormones!) to really get back to normal.

Congrats on your weight loss and baby!  It also took me almost 2 years to get back to my pre-baby weight, which was only 20 lbs, so 38 is amazing!  Good luck and make sure you keep an eye on your period because your body can play tricks on you, like you have experienced in the past!  :)

It took me 3 months after stopping breastfeeding to have my period.  I am like you and am very irregular.  so far I am running anywhere between the norm (28 days) and twice the norm (56 days).  So you are on the right track.

I was never a 28 day cycle gal either, but after my kids I was every 28-29 days. Hopefully you will experience the same. It makes life much easier knowing when things will happen--try planning for a wedding 12 months out when you have no idea what will be happening that week:). Hope this helps
