I hear that people can gain as much as 10 lbs before and during their period. I've never experienced that. In fact, up until I lost so much weight, I never even had any symptoms, such as bloating and cramping. Oh...and when I was 350-plus lbs, my period came like clockwork...every 25 days on the dot and it was always pretty light and always lasted exactly 5 days Now, it comes every 28-30 days and it's still pretty light compared to the horror stories I've heard from other women and it lasts 6-7 day. I do get a huge bloating feeling and more cramping then I used to get, but I don't gain any extra weight before or during. I think there may be a possibility I may retain just the slightest bit of water. If I do, it's not much, because afterwards, I don't have any kind of huge drop in weight.
My personal trainer tells me that she can gain anywhere from 5 to 10 lbs.
I'm guessing this might be the case for you. Weight gain, with no rhyme or reason why, would be a sign that you're retaining water.
Hopefully it'll drop as fast as it appeared!
Good luck!

I wouldn't be surprised. I looked at myself in the mirror sideways the other day, and I looked like I'd doubled in size. A few days later, I'm back to normal. I didn't realise it could be so bad, but it was.
I always gain 3-5 lbs That is except for this time around.....It's quite common so just keep to your diet and before you know it you will be back to normal or even less.....I usually lose 2-3 lbs after I lose the water weight.....
It's just not fair, is it.
Yes, I don't think I know any woman who doesn't gain weight. You aren't really gaining fat or anything though, it's just water weight, and normally goes away right after your period. I rarely have to work hard to get rid of it.
I know my weight goes up before & during my period so now I make a habbit of NOT weighing myself that week. I just be as good as I can with my food, go for a walk when the cramps get bad & limit myself with some dark chocolate to drown my TOTM sorrows in.
Even though you know it's water it's still depressing to see the scale go up when you have been eating well. But hey, it's normal & natural & highly unfair.
Yet another thing about being female that's going on my list of complaints. I've got a few bones to pick with the Almighty now. Honestly, who decided that squeezing a watermelon/bowling ball out of...well...there is a good way to reproduce?
I usually gain 4-5 pounds in water weight during my period and by the end or a few days after, I'm back to the weight I was before. Don't sweat it!
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
