I can't seem to remember when I got my period back last time I had my baby. My daughter is 2 months old now and I still havn't gotten it. Should it be soon? My doctor said people who breastfeed take a pregnancy test before they start their pills, since they might not get a period for a while. Can I do this or should I just wait? thanks :)

When I had my daughter almost five years ago, I breastfed her for six months and my period didn't return until she was 14 months old. Even then, I took medication to force my period to resume.

My son just turned a year old and I stopped breastfeeding him yesterday. I still haven't started my period yet. I've also been on the mini-pill since 4 weeks postpartum.

Do you have the prescription for the birth control pills? I'd think that your doctor would have told you when to start taking them. Mine said I didn't have to wait for a period before starting the mini-pill (progestin only so it didn't impact my milk supply) but he did want me waiting a couple weeks to take the first pill.

She gave me the prescription, and said that since I wasn't breastfeeding I should get a period soon, then to follow the instructions with the pills. I was never regular when I went off the pill, so I don't want to wait a long time for it to happen. I was hoping if I start taking them, then it will help it to start again.

Well, I'm not too confident that mine will start on its own again. It doesn't happen for everyone. What I've read, though, is that women who do not breastfeed can expect their period to return at about 2 months postpartum. I do remember my doctor specifically telling me to not start the birth control pills until after my period started naturally (once I stopped nursing my daughter). When that didn't happen, he prescribed me provera and my period started within a few days.

Wow are you serious?  I had the depo-shot (or whatever it is) a little bit after having my baby and I got my period 8 weeks after birth.  I didn't realize it was a problem for other women...

edit: I breastfed for 8 months

Well, I breastfed. Breastfeeding naturally keeps the period away in a lot of cases. I do have a girlfriend whose period returned three months postpartum despite breastfeeding (with both of her children).

Everyone is different and it will take different amounts of time for your body to adjust to no longer being pregnant. Randibeth, maybe you can ask your doc how long you should wait for your period to resume before taking measures to force it to start.

my daughter has her appointment for her needles early next week, so I'll ask her then. Thanks for your replies!
