Period Problems (May be a little TMI...)

Quote  |  Reply

I know this doesn't have much to do with pregnancy or parenting, but I didn't know where else to put it.

I just got my period today, and I feel miserable. I take midol, but all it helps with is the cramps, because I don't get regular period symptoms like other women. (bloating, blah blah). But I do get (everytime without fail) REALLY bad nausea and diarrhea. I was just curious if anyone else has weird period symptoms like these and if there are any suggestions to help with them, because obviously midol doesn't address these problems of mine.

Thank you~

I used to have horrible period symptoms. Once I started taking BCPs, the symptoms pretty much vanished. I don't have nausea and diarrhea with my cycle but they are listed as normal symptoms. Maybe speak to your doctor? Or try taking Maalox/Pepto?

Before I got on Lo-Ovral I had the worst periods, I usually couldn't eat the first day of my cycle because of the nausea. The diarrhea was also common especially the first few days. Sometimes being a woman sucks. Your symptoms seem normal to me.

Oh, good. Thanks for you suggestions, I will try them. I'm glad I'm not alone, I just thought they weren't normal because no one else I know has them and no period relief pills address those problems. So thanks.

Before I was on birth control I had the same problems.  Not as much nausea, but I felt like I had to go to the bathroom constantly the first coupledays.  I also would get shaky and have cold sweats (along with cramps yada yada).  The only recommendation that I can make is STOP taking the midol.  It has caffeine in it and that can make your symptoms worse.  If you don't get bloated you can just take a regular pain killer for the cramps. Once I realised this and stopped it helped me out a lot!

Good luck.

What has helped me for the last several years is weight lifting. I do lots of moves for my back, push ups, and crunches. My cramps have all but disappeared now. But before I began strength training, I would be doubled-over from the pain of cramps--although I never had nausea.
