period troubles..
It's definately possible that it's the change in your eating habits. I know i've lost almost 30 pounds and as I was losing the first 30 mine went from a very regular 28 day cycle to a complicated 23 day cycle. Now it's coming even earlier and I think it's because I've been cutting back a little too much lately.
Have you been sticking to your calorie intake? I think trying to keep it to a regular number has a lot to do with it.
But you're not alone at least irregular periods are a common side effect of dieting. Try getting back into your regular habits and see if it doesn't return to normal.
You, on the other hand, are the complete opposite. You are still growing (faster metabolism) and are very active.
I would agree that you are losing perspective. Even if you are not bony, not eating enough still takes a toll on your health. On top of not eating enough calories, I see no fat in your diet; this may also be a factor to your missing period.
I really hope you realize that this is very bad for your health and cause not only physical damage, but irreversible mental damage, as well. Please work to eat more, or seek help before the problem becomes worse.
First the obvious, rule out pregnancy. You can have some slight breakthrough bleeding even if you are pregnant.
Your BMI is about 18. Which is under weight. Based on how active you state you are I would guess that your body fat is even lower than what your BMI would indicate. I know teenage girls whose BMI where "normal" but because their muscle mass was so high, that they lost their period due to low body fat.
At 5'6" you should weigh about 130. Taking into account that you may be small framed, and it appears you are involved in a sport which values waifishness, you should not be below 120. I think those last three pounds put your body over the edge, you may have to gain more than 3 back to get your period again.
Look people, all she wants is an answer to her question, which in case you forgot, was about her period and not about getting bashed about her caloric intake. Yes, she probably knows that she doesn't eat enough and it's unhealthy and she shouldn't do it. Ok, got it. Now answer her damn question!
First of all, make sure you're not pregnant. Second, if your eating habits have been the same, and your periods were regular prior to this month, it could have something to do with traveling and the changes that occurred to your body (i.e.- sleeping adjustments due to time difference, etc.). But in all reality, only a doctor could give a more well informed answer. I would google your symptoms on the internet and just try to find as much info as possible. I too had a period problem this month, I don't know what's going on. But I'll find out.
Noaaiona, this calorie intake level is directly related to the original question.
BD311, of course rule out pregnancy etc but based on what you have said it does sound like you may have now hit the level of self harm from your restrictive eating (starvation mode). Many girls / women lose their periods when their body fat is under the necessary level required for healthy functioning.
If you consider that menstruating / reproducing is a natural thing, you should be concerned that you are currently unable to do the most natural thng in the world for a woman. If this is self inflicted (and your dr should be able to confirm / diagnose this) wouldn't it be better to up your calories and concentrate on your health rather than obsessing over the "normal" amount of food that you eat?
If your body has something wrong with it then it's up to you to care for it.
