so around when i was suppose to get my period i did but it barely came at all.. i got it in the middle of the day and it was VERY light and it was gone by dinner.. it hasn't come back and now it is like about 2 weeks late.. i was away on vacation in europe when i got it and my eating schedule was different there.. fruit for breakfast with a little bit of dry cereal, fruit for snacks, no lunch, and i had some form of seafood every night for dinner.. i stayed away from the bread, pasta, and pizza.. i did have a little gelato one day though! but in the 6 days i was away i lost 3 lbs.. is it possible that my period didn't come because my body was confused by the change in eating habits (i normally eat all 3 meals, just light meals)? theres a 6 hour time difference too.. so maybe my body was just confused?

It's definately possible that it's the change in your eating habits. I know i've lost almost 30 pounds and as I was losing the first 30 mine went from a very regular 28 day cycle to a complicated 23 day cycle. Now it's coming even earlier and I think it's because I've been cutting back a little too much lately.

Have you been sticking to your calorie intake? I think trying to keep it to a regular number has a lot to do with it.

But you're not alone at least irregular periods are a common side effect of dieting. Try getting back into your regular habits and see if it doesn't return to normal.

well my calorie intake has been pretty constant for the past few months.. ranging from 850 to 1300 on most days.. obviously on the higher end (the 1300) when i'm excessively exercising.. but recently its been tending more towards the lower end. but so far i haven't lost my period.. i'm currently 5'6'' and 112.. and my weight has also remained pretty constant. i'm now starting spring sport season though so i dk how this will change things.. normally i ice skate for 30-60 minutes 3 times a week plus go to the gym 2-4 times a week and work out for an hour or so.. now i have a sport for 2 hours after school in addition to skating. which means i only have 1 free day to go to the gym.. and overall ill be working out every day.. for 1-2.5 hours
You aren't eating enough in my opinion.  850 is not enough calories.  Neither is 1300 on days when you are excessively exercising.  EAT MORE!  5'6" and 112 sounds too thin to me, especially for someone that is very active and therefore probably has pretty good muscle tone.
for a while i accepted that i wasnt eating enough but now i'm starting to feel like i'm actually eating a pretty normal amount.. i dk, i read posts other people write and what they eat for the day doesnt sound that different from what i eat? i'm starting to lose perspective on this.. i really want to know if it has affected my period or if it jsut has to do with the travel thing however.. i guess i will have to wait and see what happens next month to find out?
Most of the people you are referring to who eat around 1300 calories are ADULTS who work at a sedentary job sitting on their butts typing on a computer, only to come home and plop in front of the couch.

You, on the other hand, are the complete opposite. You are still growing (faster metabolism) and are very active.

I would agree that you are losing perspective. Even if you are not bony, not eating enough still takes a toll on your health. On top of not eating enough calories, I see no fat in your diet; this may also be a factor to your missing period.

I really hope you realize that this is very bad for your health and cause not only physical damage, but irreversible mental damage, as well. Please work to eat more, or seek help before the problem becomes worse.

First the obvious, rule out pregnancy.  You can have some slight breakthrough bleeding even if you are pregnant.

Your BMI is about 18.  Which is under weight.  Based on how active you state you are I would guess that your body fat is even lower than what your BMI would indicate.  I know teenage girls whose BMI where "normal" but because their muscle mass was so high, that they lost their period due to low body fat.

At 5'6" you should weigh about 130.  Taking into account that you may be small framed, and it appears you are involved in a sport which values waifishness, you should not be below 120.  I think those last three pounds put your body over the edge, you may have to gain more than 3 back to get your period again.

Look people, all she wants is an answer to her question, which in case you forgot, was about her period and not about getting bashed about her caloric intake. Yes, she probably knows that she doesn't eat enough and it's unhealthy and she shouldn't do it. Ok, got it. Now answer her damn question!

First of all, make sure you're not pregnant. Second, if your eating habits have been the same, and your periods were regular prior to this month, it could have something to do with traveling and the changes that occurred to your body (i.e.- sleeping adjustments due to time difference, etc.). But in all reality, only a doctor could give a more well informed answer. I would google your symptoms on the internet and just try to find as much info as possible. I too had a period problem this month, I don't know what's going on. But I'll find out.

Noaaiona, this calorie intake level is directly related to the original question.

BD311, of course rule out pregnancy etc but based on what you have said it does sound like you may have now hit the level of self harm from your restrictive eating (starvation mode).  Many girls / women lose their periods when their body fat is under the necessary level required for healthy functioning.

If you consider that menstruating / reproducing is a natural thing, you should be concerned that you are currently unable to do the most natural thng in the world for a woman.  If this is self inflicted (and your dr should be able to confirm / diagnose this) wouldn't it be better to up your calories and concentrate on your health rather than obsessing over the "normal" amount of food that you eat?

If your body has something wrong with it then it's up to you to care for it.

ok somehow my account got messed up and my username changed a bit? anyway thanks for all your advice and i agree that i think esp with the increase in exercise i need to be eating more so i'm gonna try to start eating more.. it all seems so simple and easy, but i anticipate it won't be quitee so easy.. i'm going to really try though so thanks everyone
