Periods?

Quote  |  Reply

I've lost about 15-20 pounds over the last 5 months. I admit I was a little too obsessive with exercising and calorie counting at first and after a while I only weighed 94 pounds (I'm 5'1, so thats underweight by about 4 pounds). Now I've gotten back to a healthy 100 pounds and BMI of 19. My period stopped once I started dieting and I assumed it was because of vigorous exercise. But now I only exercise moderately for about 30 minutes 4 times a week. And I eat around 1800 calories. I have kept this up for about a 2 months, and I still don't have a period. Am I maybe not eating enough fat or protein? If so, how can I eat more without adding a lot of calories to my diet? Or do I even need to be worried?

Make sure your getting enough fat in your diet!  Healthy fat!  I had lost mine, but gained it back adding more olive oil, meat & eggs.  I also added organic tomato sauces w/ contained high fat, and olive oils.  It was a good alternative since I can't eat nuts.  So make sure your eating your healthy fat.  You may even lose a lb or 2 because when I added more fat into my diet, I did.  Just make sure you eat more healthy fat and eat enough calories for your activity level.

Periods stop when you do not weigh enough nor eat enough!

Hunny I am 4ft 9 inches and I should be 100lbs - I think you should weigh a little more!

Please don't take this as criticism but as concern!

What are your stats, if you don't mind?  Laughing

I lost over 30 since January and I have been without my period for about 2 months. Personally, I enjoy not having it but I am up there in age and have already had all the kids I'm going to have. So to me it's no biggie. However, (the pot calling the kettle black here at 63 in and 95 lbs) you should probably weigh a little more. I've been told that once your body gets back to taking in enough nutrients then your body will start functioning normally again. I'm not sure how long that takes though.

Good luck.

I lost mine for 9 months and just got it back! I went to the doctor's and got bloodwork, MRI, etc, and during all that I upped my fat intake. I ate a lot of almonds and some more olive oil. Well I got it back on my own and I definitely think it was because of the fat! I lost around 32 pounds since December. So I did it slowly, but I still lost my period. You body needs time to adjust. However, you do seems slightly underweight still...gaining a few pounds would help too! :) Good luck.

Stats?

I'm 5'1 (its probably closer to 5 feet, but I like to round up haha) and I weigh about 98 pounds. My BMI is 18.7 according to cdc.com, and it also says that is healthy. So does my doctor. I just want my period back, cause it just doesn't feel right you know? Ha. But yeah I'll starting eat like almonds and whatever. My dad put olive oil on the spaghetti we had last night for dinner, so that was good. I'm not afraid to gain weight or anything. It just kinda makes me sick to my stomach to eat over 2000 calories.

But I also forgot to mention I ride horses competetively. I ride 5 to 6 times a week. Maybe I'm burning more calories than I thought? And I can't cut back on riding, it would screw up my horse.

One other thing. I take lexapro, which is an antidepressant, for anxiety and ocd. Could that be interferring with weight gain?

The medicine could be having an impact. You should talk to your doctor.

I am 5'6'' and about 128. I was being too restrictive with my calories when I really lost my period. I started eating a bit more too and that helped. I did not gain any weight. I guess I was just eating too little to begin with. Try adding a couple more snacks in to get your calories up a little bit.

I just feel healthier now that I finally got it. So I totally understand when you say it doesn't feel right, because it doesn't.

My problem is the opposite. My period seems to have settled in to every 4 months, but I'm very overweight. :(

I went through a period where I stopped playing collegiate volleyball and led a very sedentary lifestyle. And when I mean very sedintary, I mean V-E-R-Y. Needless to say, I gained about 40 lbs over the last 2.5 years and I stopped getting my periods.

I asked my doctor and after blood tests, nothing seemed to be wrong, so she started me on birth control. It's been 6 months being on bc, and it's been very tough to lose weight while on it. My periods are back to normal now, but I want off the pill! I just moved somewhere new, so I'm in the process of finding a new dr. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm thinking that with my new active and healthy-eating lifestyle that I could just ease off the pill in a couple months...
