Hello everyone!
I am curious to know what kinds of techniques (if any) you guys and gals may have when it comes to resisting food. Since I moved out on my own last year I find that I've been constantly and mindlessly eating, which was never really a problem for me when I used to live with roommates, or when I was living (and visit back) home. I try the wait xx minutes for your cravings to pass trick but that doesn't seem to work for me
.
Thanks in advance for your tips :)
Melissa
Get busy. Clean your place, play a video game, go take a walk, go shopping, call up a friend - anything that distracts you, takes away the bored feeling that makes you want the food, gets you away from the food, etc.
If all else fails, get something like air-popped corn, or carrots and celery, to grab for the munchies.
Maybe you are lonely. Can you get a pet?

Best. Advice. Ever.
eating shouldn't be "something to do"
If you're actually hungry, then eat but log what you eat. Also drink some water as sometimes hungry signals are really thirsty signals.
Don't keep your biggest trigger foods in the house (for me that's cookies or chips).
Keep the fridge stocked with items you are less likely to over eat. The more effort it takes to get the food the less likely you are to overeat.
I also find it helps to get busy, to get away from the TV, computer or other activity where you are likely to overeat.
Go out to a friends, call someone, get involved in something, get a hobby that keeps your hands busy, go for walk, do what ever you have to.
Chew gum. Minty or cinnamon gum especially taints the flavour of any food that you eat, making it much less appealing.
Drink PLENTY of water. Also...
Hot herbal tea>>>takes a while to sip, fills you up, calorie free, and comes in lots of different satisfying flavors...I'm loving honey chamomile, and cranberry/apple right now :)
tea & gum - my two snack saviors :)
