Personal Trainer

Quote  |  Reply

Hi!

I have a personal trainer for a yr now.I do 2 half hr sessions with her.1 day upper and 1 day lower.I also do pilates reformer and cardio and spin on my own.

My problem is I am at a plateau and not going anywhere.I told her that I would do the wt training on my own as by now I pretty much know all the exercises and how to keep on increasing my wts etc.But she says I shd go to 1 hr instead/wk where she can push me and I can do other day on my own.Right now I can hardly survive the 1/2 hr with her especilly with upper body.

Can somebody help me.I am not sure wheather she is just trying to sell?I think i can do it on my own and add some cardio and do circuit which might change my routine.

Sorry for the long post

She probably doesn't want to lose your business, but I doubt she is just trying to sell. She is probably trying to kick it up a knotch (she would be correct in doing so since you have been training for a year). I'm with her, give her a chance to try some new things in the hour worth of time and continue to do your second day (but alone). Ask her if you guys could try some circuit training...get the heart rate up while strength training.

One thing I would add, if she has been doing the same thing with you for a full year you may want to get a new trainer. Not because she's no good, but she may be out of ideas. Trainers all have their own style, you could try someone new to kick start things again.

Thanks!

She has been changing the exercises like one chest machine or the other or we started with 2sets and now do 2 tricep kick backs and 2 on machine etc. but I know now how to rotate my exercises.

She is going to give me 1 session of 1 hr with circuit or cardio next wk.I am going to see if it will help.

I was wondering if doing a class like cardio sculpt would help or Am i more further than that and will lose strength?

hi again Jaimi! Cardio sculpt is fine, but is geared more towards muscle endurance...which isn't quite what you're after for fat loss. Although, there is certainly something to be said for variety in general (keeps the body guessing) and body sculpt would probably have it. Give it a try. If it feels too easy then it is too easy! Either lift heavier weights or do weights on your own.
Hmm well if you discussed it with her maybe suggest you should keep one half hour session and ask her to slowly increase it if you cant handle it? SHe probably is selling as obviously she will be losing business if you did it all by yourself but just let her know how you feel before making any decisions? Remember that if you have a trainer they are motivation aswell so if you decide to do it by yourself maybe have a friend to help you?
