Personal trainer leaving and I'm SCARED!!!
I have been working out with an awesome trainer since about May and I was just getting very comfortable with him. I have had bad experiences in the past with personal trainers and I was so relieved to have found a great one.
Well, I found out today that he will be moving to another state in 3 weeks! I am totally freaking out! I was on a 6 month plateau before I started training with him and the results since working with him have been amazing! So, I am crushed that he is leaving and TERRIFIED that all my motivation is going to go out the window and I will be right back where I started. He said I have the option of cramming in my remaining sessions with him before he leaves OR I can continue on with our regular schedule and then I can just switch to another trainer at the gym. I have 11 sessions left with him (although I had planned to do more but that's out of the question now) so it is possible to get them all in and it would give me a nice boost before I have to return to school (I'm a teacher). On the other hand, I think it might be a good idea to switch to a different trainer, as I get really nervous working out with weights without someone monitoring my form and such. So, I'm all confused as to what to do!
Please tell me what you would do. Would you finish it up with the good trainer or risk going to a different trainer? I am definitely leaning one way but I'm so emotional about it (it's TTOM) that I'd really like to hear from some rationally-thinking people.
Thanks in advance for any replies!
Been there! My first trainer switched gyms in March and I freaked. I didn't think there would be anyone out there who would know how to push me or work me out as hard, etc etc than him. Since I would have sessions remaining after he left, he and I talked at length about who would be the best for me to switch to. I went with one of the other trainers who I knew a little about and guess what....I work even HARDER now!
The moral of my little story is: there are other people out there who will help you. Keep an open mind and try a few out, they will be different than your current trainer but do the workout and see how you feel. My former and current trainer are miles apart in how they train and I like different things about each of them but at the end of the day, I am getting a great workout and heading towards my goals. You will too, trust me.
As for your question as to stay or go, I say stay with the current guy for now but talk to him about who he thinks would be good for you to switch to. Watch the other trainers and see how they work and which you think you might get along with. I say take a few of those sessions and use them on whichever trainer you have thought about and see how it goes. They might even throw in a free session just to try out a few of them. Doesn't hurt to ask! Don't get discouraged about it but see it as a new jump in your fitness goals and weight loss.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice Karen! :)
