Since Bubba only eats dry food, no problem for me, but very scary indeed for those who feed canned and moist foods.
That's terrible! Those poors animals! Nothing that's sold over here luckily.
Mine only eat dry food, so I'm safe.  Thanks for the warning though...I hadn't even heard about it.
I totally freaked about this this morn. My cats eat the Nutro Max! I called home & had my bf tell me the codes on the packages & thank god we are out of the range! I wish these companies would get thier s*** together. I am looking for ways to make my own cat food:)
Mine matched the UPC codes.  I feed each of them 1/4 pouch of the mixables every day.  ... I guess it's time for a vet visit.

They are perfectly fine and healthy though.  I will however stop feeding them these and probably make my own meat and gravy thing for them.

Their checkup has been scheduled for first thing on Monday.
Sorry babyangie - but I'll bet your babies will be ok....and knowing there could be a problem at least gives you the opportunity to keep a close watch on them for a while. Regina, I'm glad your bf was home so you could get a little peace of mind.  Scarey stuff though - especially when it involved so many brands.  One of my boys is a picky eater - and I don't know if I fed him out of one of those recalled lots or not.  I do know he had some elevation in his BUN a few weeks back and was doing some vomiting.  Rechecked it about a week ago and he was fine....hmmm.  Keep me posted if any of you learn anything new.
Def will keep ya posted, I let everyone on my email list know & one of my friends had the bad stuff ! She said her cat has been weird about eating it & throwing up so hopefully she caught it in time! She said she bought it at walmart, it was iams.
Yea, some of the brands are really well known - Iams and Eukanuba and maybe even Hill's (the Science Diet people) - plus ta lot of the store brands for walmart and sam's - that's where lots of folks shop - and lots in Petsmart too.  I fed my boys a dab of baby food with ther kibble tonight - they thought it was great!
Another place to check for brands affected by this: http://www.menufoods.com/recall/index.html
All pet owners, PLEASE CHECK THE RECALL LIST.  Even if you buy the most nutritious, expensive, premium pet food, it is probably on the list

I feed my poochie Nutro Ultra Holistic and that is on the list!  It is supposed to be all-natural, no filler, premium dog food - how can it have the same tainted ingredient of all these other brands?  This is terrible.

I'm worried about the dry food, too. Even though it's not part of the recall, I don't think they fully understand the scope of the problem yet. My dog usually gets kibble, but he wasn't eating well, so I bought him cans last week.  He's not getting any more of that, ever.

I'm making my own food or buying it from a local organic pet food company from now on.
Hmm..

They're saying the issue is with the Wheat Gluten, Secret. Does the dry food have Wheat Gluten in it?

If not, I'd say no worries. if so, go ahead and toss it. :)

I use Iams myself for my fuzzies :)
My cat eats the IAMS pouches which have been recalled as well.  I have one left with a UPC code that's okay ------ and from what I can tell the stores have been cleaned out of the brand.

She eats dry food as a backup --- but it's going to be a SAD SAD day the day after tomorrow when she finds out there's no more food!  (I can hear the meowing already!)
Oi.

... OK, luckily my fuzzies eat Dry Food...

... Oi.

*goes to check about the Wheat Gluten thing*
They say it is the wheat gluton, but the CBS.com article I read this morning makes it sound like they're really  just guessing.

My baby doesn't have any symptoms so I think he's fine. But it makes me wonder if we're really getting what we think we're buying.
No symptons on this end either. Everyone was perky this morning.

No rush to buy replacement food, though. Not until we're out and this recall is over.
Hmmm... I checked and "wheat glueton" is not in the list of ingredients for Nutro Ultra Holistic.  Protein is sourced from chicken, lamb and salmon. I wonder why this is recalled?  ETA:  the website doesn't list it, but the can does. :(
I think gluten (grain protein) is as much about adding consistency and texture - as it is a source of protein.  You are right, they aren't sure if it is the wheat gluten itself or something that was used in processing it or what.. I'm guessing they did not recall dry food(although I am sure it has some kind of gluten) because the gluten was supplied by a different supplier.  My dog biscuits have corn gluten, and one of the dry foods I feed has corn gluten meal.  Lots of people are having their pet's kidney function checked to be on the safe side....
Okay got them checked this morning.  They did Chem 6 for one and Chem 12 for the other.  Also they did some other test.  They are healthy and fine.  :)  I do feed them science diet as dry food though.  Phew!

After the dog food recall scare, I pretty much just boil lean meats, chop it up, and mix it in.  I also take out the fat from the broth from this and add a tiny bit of the liquid in their food as well. :)
A girl at work's cat is in kidney failure from the recalled food and isn't sure if the cat will make it. She is forking out a lot of money in vet bills as well as prescriptions...
All pet owners please update.  Another pet food company  has recalled their food.

FDA Site for the pet food recalled.
