PETA's take on the beheading...

Quote  |  Reply

So, I'm sure you've heard about the guy that was beheaded on the Greyhound bus. & it was reported that the murderer ate the man's flesh as well.
PETA is now trying to run this ad.
A newspaper in the town where the incident happened has refused to run it.

PETA said on its blog: "While it isn't every day that a human is violently attacked and eaten by another human, it's worth noting that it is the norm for many people not to give any thought to the fact that restaurants are serving flesh that comes from innocents who were minding their own business before someone came after them with a knife."

I personally think PETA is completely ridiculous for doing this. But then again, I'm not a fan of PETA to begin with, so I wanna see what everyone else has to say. Totally in poor taste imo. If it was my family member who was killed, I would be absolutely LIVID.

Bad taste. Shame on you, PETA.

They have pulled some doozies in the past but this is FAR worse than anything I've seen from them before. (They have a long history of running sexist ads, for one).

This made me extremely upset with PETA. I liked the idea of relating senseless murder of humans to killing animals, but I believe they should not be capitalising off of a horrible incident and especially not this soon.

But, it does what they set out to do - make people think and get people talking. I bet the traffic on their site is up too.

I'm also not a fan of PETA. I believe most of their tactics are no better than propoganda bombs used in wars (think M*A*S*H)

Edit: Just for the record, I do eat meat

oh wow. PETA is absolutely disgusting.

yeah PETA, a cow is the same as a human.

how could they possibly be so insensitive to poor Tim McLeans family and friends.

Petards are a special kind of disturbed...

wow thats sick

i just sent peta a very nasty message.  it would be cool if mine wasn't the only response they received.

That. Is rediculous.

Ok, I have my OWN personal issues with P.E.T.A. I'm pretty empathetic when it comes to animals, but I've had highschool P.E.T.A freaks come to MY home, go into MY family's farm land, and let our chickens and cows loose/take them away, defacing our barn as well and accusing us of being abusive to our animals.

In NO WAY was our family abusing our livestock. P.E.T.A abused OUR family. We had no source of food/income for a long, LONG time, and comming from a large family, Having little to no protein/food put a BIG strain on all of us.

And reading this article, it only Pisses me off more (sorry for the french, I don't normally like cursing, but again, I'm pretty angry against this organisation')

It is in bad, no, HORRIBLE taste. P.E.T.A members only think about the welfare of animals, and pay NO attention to the suffering of humans! Thousands of children starve each night in Africa that could be prevented if they had a goat for milk or meat. But NO, P.E.T.A considers it 'cruel' to the goat to be milked and used for meat. Forget that people are starving. Forget that HUMANS suffer. Just so long as a feather isn't tousled from a bird they're fine with pretty much anything.

If you ask me, the head of P.E.T.A (Yes, this includes my idol, Joan Jett) Need to SERIOUSLY reconsider what they're saying.

I'm sorry, I just got really, REALLY angry reading that. BEYOND words. Sorry if I came off as a total B...

PETA is no better than people who sell their religion door to door. They will use any opportunity to sell their PERSONAL opinions. I love eating meat. I'm not sorry. I'm an omnivorous mammal, like many other species. I don't see how they can make a connection between an omnivorous lifestyle and cannibalism. This is worse than the ridiculous campaign that swimmer hussy from the states held in Beijing sporting nude pictures of herself at the olympics telling people to feel comfortable in their own skin, don't wear fur. It had nothing to do with the  summer Olympics, it was just another embarrassing attempt to use the success of others to promote themselves.

As far as I can tell, PETA is a religion - it's just not legally defined as one.

Capitalizing on someone's death for the promotion of personal beliefs apparently isn't just reserved to whackos like Fred Phelps.

People Eating Tasty Animals

Damnit PETA! poor taste. very poor taste.

I really do thing they turn more people off of veg*nism who are considering it, rather than attracting people like they are trying to.

I've talked to many people who say they've considered cutting out meat, but don't want to be associated in any way to PETA, even just by having similar (albeit less radical) beliefs. Other people have said they went vegetarian but after reading PETA's stuff they realized everything was BS and switched back to eating meat.
Ugh, I hate PETA!

PG, I'm also gonna send them a message

I don't know if anyone remembers this, but in the early 90's PETA was on the FBI's list of terroist orgianzations! That and Greenpeace, I think. I was really young and I heard my dad say it.

It was the age of direct action in the 90s, aka chaining yourself to things, blowing things up, disrupting businesses.

I have never been a fan of direct action (except for peaceful marching). Mainly because I saw first-hand how the anti-abortion crowd took it to the next level (bombings, blockades, swarming people's private homes, shootings, internet hit lists). And the press never really reported on most of it. Certainly people were never willing to call them what they were, which is terrorists - I guess because they were Christian and not Muslim.
Sometimes I wonder if PETA is actually trying to MAKE us eat meat, their ad campaigns are so sick. Past controversies from this group were a Thanksgiving ad in 2001 with a turkey puppet acting as a "heroic" terrorist (may I reiterate it was in 2001? Two months after you-know-what?) They also did an ad juxtaposing photos of pigs in a pen and Holocaust victims behind a barbed wire fence. This is just wrong on so many levels I don't know where to begin. PETA makes me sick. Everytime they do something like this I deliberately go out and eat a big meat sandwich.
I always found their actions to be quite disturbingly distatesful. As if they are using reverse psychology so that people don't turn vegetarian/vegan. But why are they allowed to post something so controvertial? I'm glad that there are people who are against treating animals horribly but what PETA is doing is completely hypocritical, nonsensical, terrorizing and inhumane.
How absolutely disgusting!!  I will be contacting them as well.  They ought to be ashamed.  Comparing what happened to this poor young man to that of an animal off to slaughter is so far off base here!

I too would be livid if I were this young man's family or friends.  Tacky, tacky, tacky PETA!!!!
Hell yes, Pgeorgian!

 Excellent idea!!

*goes to make a big meat sandwich*

Oh. My. God.

How much more disrespectful can you be?!!!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!

Edit: And look, I'm no fan of humans. When everyone in Georgia was talking of how stupid it was mussles got more water than we did, my response was this: Well, we knew we were in a drought for at least 10 years and these mussles are an endangered species which knew nothing of any of this and could've done nothing anyway. I say support the mussles.

But seriously. This is just wrong. Why can we not respect the privacy of death anymore?

That doesn't even go into the sensitivity the Chinese feel towards nudity. (When in Italy with some native Chinese, they freaked out seeing a rennissance painting of a naked women on a bus.)
