PETA’s New #$@%& Campaign toward overweight people

Quote  |  Reply

Well today while surfing I found a new report about PETA and since I kind of like PETA I decided to read it and man was I pissed.

Peta New Campaign

Wow just wow, they really are idiots. What do you guys think.

it's offensive.  it's also kind-of hilarious.

PETA is so fringe that the only way they can get attention nowadays is to be edgy and offensive.

They know this.

I'd laugh at it personally, at how pathetic PETA is and the lows it has to go to get attention.

I still think this one was worse.

i agree, amethyst.  that one's designed to humiliate parents, i suppose, but targetting kids isn't cool.

PETA isn't particularly active in canada.  i never see these ads here.

Another campaign of theirs

So...are they saying that eating whales makes people fat?  Or are they wanting us to eat fat people? I'm confused :/

I vote for the second. I'll gladly eat a starving african child. It'll put us both out of misery. ;)

Will help with the overpopulation problem too!

Also, equating beating your kid to letting him eat a burger just sets me on edge.

PETA is to vegetarians what Fred Phelps is to Christians.

Is Fred Phelps the guy from that Kansas church?

Once, I saw them picketing, as I was driving out of town. Had to pull over so I could cry, then call my friend and tell him I love him.

Not to put too fine a point on it but...f*** PETA

With an electric prod up the butt, so as not to damage the pelt.

What a dumb ad. How does a caricature of a fat lady invite the general public to make the tenuous link between their double cheese burger and whale hunting? Vegans can be overweight too. Has PETA not seen Paul Watson? He is the whale guy.

PETA are hypocrites that are rounding up puppies and kittens on the street and killing them to prevent anyone adopting them because they think being a pet is demeaning to animals. They are too, too weird.

At the same time, I must acknowledge that they have  played a part in publicising the suffering experienced by many farm animals from rearing to slaughter, but they have been very selective over whom they pick on in this regard, and have lost all credibility in my eyes. They had a video on their website of a dog dying of poison gas with the surrounding text proclaiming it as evidence of  Al queda's brutality to man and beast alike. The caption in teensy, tiny writing at the bottom of the screen, however, recorded that the footage was shot in Israel!  I would prefer a resource that accurately portrays emotive images such as seal hunts, slaughterhouses and fur farms uniformly, dispassionately and without the political hystrionics that PETA indulge in. Just the images, no commentary, and let people make up their own bloody minds.

Paul Watson (Sea Shepherds) is crazy too.

i suppose so, but i've never met one.  most of the vegans i know are skinny, pale, and pasty.

That's astonishingly generalised!

I know several chunky vegetarian girls, and a few carnivores without an ounce of fat on them! Why don't they focus on the environmental benefits of vegetarianism, such as decreased cattle ranching? Oh, because soya is destroying the rainforest at the same rate nowadays.

PETA make me really annoyed - if you want to feed the world you need intensive farming.

I agree with most of what you said. I never understood why PETA is for euthanasia of pets. I like about 50% of what PETA puts out there. I agree that most modern cultures have an extreme anthropocentric view of the world. We as a world definitely could use a nice non-anthropocentric kick in the butt.

I knew a total fatass vegan in HS.

I am used to this kind of offensive, sexist crap from PETA so it doesn't surprise me. My main issue though is that it is just plain wrong. I have personally been an overweight vegetarian, not to mention a vegan with high cholestoral. There are plenty of reasons not to eat meat, PETA. Try using one that is real for a change.

I dunno. What about the billboards that say: "Big Bang Theory, You've Got to Be Kidding" - God

Or: "Will the road your on get you to my place?" - God

Or, on the opposite end, one with a cartoon fairy that says in curly script: "All religions are Fairy Tails."

Or, one for a plastic surgery clinic, featuring some perky breasts in a red bow-like bra that says, "Finally, a gift you can both enjoy!"

Or the famous anti-anorexia one, featuring a totally emaciated naked girl.

All of these seem pretty damn insulting, depending on whether you agree or disagree with the message. I just think its silly to get all up in arms about advertising. I mean, it's just marketing. It's supposed to be getting everyone all riled up. When everyone freaks out about it, then PETA's succeeded doing what they meant to do by putting up such a billboard in the first place.

Like getting a book banned, having the public at large utterly outraged at a billboard only increases it's affect (and, thus, its value).
