Pets--what do you have?

Quote  |  Reply

I am an animal fanatic!  I love my animals just as if they were my children...

I had Cleo, a Chocolate Lab, that just passed away (last Sunday) after nine wonderful years and a year long fight with kidney disease.

I also have a 4 yr old American Pit Bull Terrier named Sadie, one of the sweetest, most passive, lovable and cuddly dogs you will EVER find!

My third "child" is my horse, Nugget, a 7 yr old Mustang that was born and raised on a Navajo reservation.

Tonight, I am going to look at another rescue dog, not to replace Cleo, because nothing ever could, but for a playmate for Sadie...plus I get to save another homeless pet, which I love to do!  (all my dogs come from rescues or the "pound")

And I was just wondering what everyone else has!  Dogs, cats, reptiles, birds???  Tell us about it!!  :)

I'm in college right now and can't have pets (and my dear, best friend Finnegan the Fish died last semester! :( ) but at home my brother has a cat.  I had the most adorable cat ever, Artemis (Arty) but he got run over two days after coming home for Christmas last year.  Talk about a fun start to the holiday.  I can't WAIT until I can get another cat though, I love them!

Anyway, I've had cats and gerbils and hamsters throughout my life...  But the "coolest" pet I had was a hedgehog!  Her name was Cassiopeia (Cassie), she was pretty cool.  :)

I too love animals especially dogs. I have a cross staff (staffordshire bull terrier) called Jazz who is the most wonderful pet - so soft and loving. Too big really to sit on my knee but would get a medal for trying !

He is suffering whilst me and hubby are dieting - not many goodies being thrown his way ! However he is benefitting from more walks !

We also get our dogs from the dogs home.

Good luck with the new addition Smile.

Lucy is my Lab-Rottweiler.  I love her beyond all reason :)

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, by the way.  {{hugs}}  It's so hard to lose a pet... they're family members.

Edited to add that Lucy is from a shelter, also, but second-hand.  A woman whose husband is in the service got her as protection while he was deployed overseas.  Her landlord had given permission for her to get a dog, but saw Lucy at four months of age and rescinded his word, saying she'd be too big.  So I took her, and I'm soooo glad I did.  ♥

I love animals too!  I have a dog, Spunky.  I got him from the pound 3 years ago when he was 5 years old.  I love him to death.  Before him, I didn't even care for dogs.  Now I don't know what I would do without him!!

I also have 4 cats: Peaches, Herb, Merlin, and Morris.

And 4 Bunnies: Sprinkles, Berry, Lily, and Ruby.

I love turtles too.  Ours passed away recently.  We would like to get another, but we're going to wait until we figure out if we're going to move or not.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your pets...I know that hurt.   I'd love to have a hedgehog!  They are so cute, but what exactly do you do with them?  They don't seem too cuddly!!  Laughing

I, myself, have a hampster named Akuma.  Together with Alex I have two kitties, Whiskey and Vodka (whom can be seen in my photos somewhere), and a guinea pig named Sorbet.  And Alex brought a dog, Coco, and a cat who belongs on Calorie-Count herself, Raven.

I used to have forty-three guinea pigs, two bunnies, three dogs, five birds, a hampster, two turtles, and a few other pets that I don't remember.

Hedgehogs aren't quite as fast as things like gerbils/mice/hamsters, so it's easier for them to be more "tame."  Sadly, I didn't put enough effort into it, so she was never as human-loving as some, but she could be cuddly all the same!  Their spines are naturally laid down and back, like normal hair (except thick), and if you just pet them normally, it's actually really soft.  Lots of times, when I'd pick her up in my arms, she'd walk along my arm and cuddle her nose into my elbow (if that makes sense), and just hang out there (they like the dark).  Really, unless they get startled or feel threatened, they don't ball up/get all pokey on you.  ;)

I had a black lab from about age 6 until just before I graduated high school -- his name was Alejandro...he was my "little Latin love affair." I was one sad camper when he died.

Not allowed any real pets in the dorms, but I do have a saltwater fish tank with lots of coral, an Annularis Angelfish (Dori) and a Percula Clownfish (Nemo)...original, I know.

Reminds me when I was a kid and let all my rats mate, I had 60 or so babies Surprised - How did you happen to come by 43? :P

At the moment I have just 2 cats. My last 2 rats passed away and I gave my fish away.

I've had cats, dogs, a ferret, rats, rabbits, gerbils, mice (including a spiny mouse), hamsters (don't like them), fish (some upwards of 14inches, and many exotic/unusual species), budgies, newts, turtles...I think that's all.

At the moment I would like to get a dog and a ferret...and in the far future maybe a Friesian horse if I'm lucky :P

i wish i had a kitty!

I love animals too.  Growing up my family always had 3-4 cats and 3-4 dogs and other random pets at different times.

Right now I have one fussy, fuzzy, fat cat that I adore.  She is the first animal that has ever been all mine instead of a family pet and I've had her for 12 years (since I was 16) and she has helping my sanity since then!

I would like to have more pets, but I don't really have time in my schedule for another pet and I'd rather not have many pets than be a bad pet mom.  It works out though because Gremmie hates other kitties with a passion and she really likes things calm in her old age.

I have a Rex Rabbit that I adopted from a friend's farm. A BUNCH of rabbits had babies and they needed homes so my fiance and I offered to take one. Her name is Darth Vada and she's adorable. I have pictures of her in my gallery!

I love rexes, I've had a rex cat and a rex rat in the past...their fur is so so soft and the curly whiskers are cute.

and I agree with Kory23, with working for a few years in the animal care field, I honestly don't feel like taking care of more animals at home (even though I do love animals)...so instead of being a 'bad pet mom' because I don't want to clean a cage, or walk a dog (I do those things at work), I think it's better for me to wait.

We're huge pet people here as well.  We have:

4 ferrets - Ivy, Haiku, Dash & Bandit
3 cats - Kasai, Lotus & Harley
1 dog - Luna
1 teenager

Very sorry to hear about your recent loss.  I lost a cat last year that had been with me for over 18 years!  They are so much a part of the family, it's a very tough loss.

9 AKC Chihuahuas. We are hobby breeders and have a few litters a year. They are so small you can have alot and still not as big as a big dog. We have a web page if you want to see our little ones. www.tinytreasurechihuahuas.com.
We currently have:

3 cats - Ashroth, Kali, and Chase
1 pomeranian - Tasha
2 rats - Othello and Svensgard
1 cockatiel - Kyra
1 guinea pig - Brutus
1 bearded dragon - Kimahri
3 firebelly toads
7 aquariums (the largest is a 125-gallon with a porcupine puffer, snowflake eel, panther grouper, and gold bar wrasse)

Only a few days ago we lost our first pet, Smirnoff the mouse.  He was a very well-aged 3.5 years old (old for a mouse), and he went peacefully in his sleep.  However, he was our first "child" together, and I'm still very sad about his passing.
I have a 4 year old beagle named Cooper.  He's in my photos if you would like to see him in all his cuteness.  He's my boy & I just love him to death!
I had a guinea pig, Peaches, who needed a friend, Oreo, who had a baby, Tornado, who had illegitimate babies, a litter of five, who mated with even more guinea pigs, eventually bringing our total to 43.  Not including the piggies that didn't make it past a day.
I have a four year old mutt who keeps bothering me wanting to go on a walk.  It's really hard to find a reputable breeder so I don't think I'll ever own a purebred dog (way too many backyard breeders and mills).  She's spolied rotten too.  Only the best for my furry daughter.
