Is it weird that I'm anticipating an 11:59 pm post from pg?

14 Replies (last)

It's 10:04pm here!

Pfft, if this is some elaborate scheme to avoid me, it's not going to work.  I'll eMail her.  Videos.  Lengthy videos of me expressing my love and adoration of her.

Shame on the people who've been reporting her for stating her opinion.  I doubt they'd appreciate someone doing the same to them.

She can't stay gone for forever.

Tis midnight.  No deletion yet.

People never walk in other people's shoes. If they did, this current problem wouldn't exist. :(

If you go back and look at ALL her posts, none of them were offensive! They're OPINIONS! Not everyone is going to agree with eachother. But one thing everyone can agree on is that we have a right to our opinions.

Now we have to be careful, which is ridiculous, because we may get deleted from a public forum because someone may have found your opinion offensive.

Stay off the internet if opinions are too offensive for ya, imo!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the closing of her account was completely self-imposed. I received a PM from her at 3:48pm today telling me: "...forget it. delete my account."

I took that ad verbatim and thought that she was fed up with us and wanted to leave. Now I am not sure anymore if she was just being rude and saying things she didn't mean. Whatever the case may be, it's up to her to decide what she wants to do. Her account remains open and I have no interest or desire in closing it - unless she explicitly asks for it.

This is so interesting. I understand that a lot of you don't want her to go, but it's her choice. She didn't get kicked out, she got warned for her posts.. the same way anyone else would if they were openly cussing or just being brutally honest. Nobody wants to hear brutal honesty, even when they ask for it.. so of course whoever gives it is going to be given crap for it.  I'm not saying it's wrong.  All I'm saying is that people don't want to hear feedback, as much as they'd like to think they do.

If she wants to go, let her go. Don't try to protest it. If she wants to stay or needs support from anyone here, she will either stay or just get e-mail addresses, etc. Why don't you all just urge her to create a facebook and then you can facebook her?

This is a free site. You're not paying to be here and you're also not stockholders, so decisions like that are strictly left open to the account holder as well as the moderators.

Just figured I'd put my 2 cents in.

I agree, katesorad.

I think the entire issue is just a big misunderstanding and sensitivity (on the part of both sides).

The mods were a little sensitive about the posts and complaints (and might have delivered the message poorly to cut down on cussing, for example). Instead of a message saying "clean it up or get banned"...there should just be warnings and perhaps approaching it in a more "please watch the language, we need to keep the forums clean or we have to delete / edit the posts"

PG might have taken the warning as if she could not share controversial opinions (which, I don't think the mods are saying, they are pretty reasonable people...but even they make mistakes on the calls they make).

So, basically... everyone should hug and make up :)

Seems like everyone is getting defensive ...when both sides have a case (according to how they are understanding the sittuation, just the communication of that isn't going through).

It's reasonable for the mods to want the language and/or insulting posts (if there were any) to be toned down (but again, communicate it more gently). And its reasonable for PG to want to share her opinions without fear that the mods are sitting there waiting to delete her account.... no one should need to censor their opinions, simply the way they present them.

And, there is the issue of more closely looking at exactly what the complaint is...not simply judging the crime by how much work it causes the mods (mods are like police men for the forums, it's about keeping things nice and free for everyone to exchange ideas).

Lorik, I appreciate your attempt to keep the peace, but if you read Igor's warning to Pg, it specifically includes sharing her opinions:

"... I'll have to ask you to be less controversial in your forum posts..."

I dont know about you, Lorik, but if I recieved this note, I would interpret it the same way Pg did, which is "dont share your controversial opinions or the next step is that you will get banned." If this is not what Igor meant, Id love to hear a clarification, but to me it sounds like an ultimatum and it sounds like Pg is being discouraged from talking about certain subjects, in addition to just avoiding dirty language.

Here is what Im still personally confused about:

1. "Controversial" is subjective - only Igor knows what Igor finds to be controversial. So PG - or any other member - has no idea when they are going to get flagged and which of those reports Igor will deem "valid" based on his notion of what is controversial.

2. There's no "dont be controversial" rule in the TOS. How can someone be banned when no one can point out which rule they broke? Being controversial shouldnt count against anyone unless they violate the TOS.

Everyone has a lapse in judgement now and then :) Igor just made a bad call (it happens, mods are human). I think the mods need to just step up and clarify that they don't really mean we can't post controversial opinions (because, I doubt anyone is in favor of a forum that bans people from talking about things people care about and are worth talking about).

I would like to point out to all of you that each and every time a post is moderated, that member gets an email with the reason clearly stated.  If a post is deleted, it's always because that post has been found to violate the posting guidelines or terms of service.  If the post is deleted, then you can't go back and read it, so it's no surprise that you are not finding violations in her posting history.

Interesting stuff, sorry I was away for a few days and missed it.  Now it seems PG is gone, despite Igor's decision not to delete her account.

Having been on Calorie Count for over 2 years now I've seen quite a few changes, including the huge switch over to CC+ from CC Classic.  That was a tough one.

I've noticed an increase in censorship over time.  Seems like when I first joined we could post whatever words we pleased.  Not saying this was so, but it seemed like it.  I can remember some very spirited discussions!

Now PG has opted out and that makes me very sad.  I'll miss her and I'm thinking that she'll miss CC.

I'm getting fed up with all this now!

It's time to let it go and move on, PG said whatever it was she said she got pulled for it, as many of us have, you have the choice to either comply or leave PG opted to leave and in time honoured tradition has done so in a controversial way.

She'll be laughing her socks off.

I agree with you, too, katesorad!!!!
