i think he had a smoke!
any opportunity to take someones glory away from them, he's not sad but the reporters who jumped on this are!
Nope, he deserves it. So many people looked up to him, and he totally let the fame go to his head.

The whole situation is sad. Everyone should have a certain amount of personal privacy. But when you're a high profile athlete like him you shouldn't be hitting on a bong with a bunch of strangers. Somebody's bound to snap a pic with their cell phone an auction the pic to the highest bidder. It's going to cost him a lot of money but he'll survive.
I think it's stupid, but I'm all for legalizing pot (even though I don't smoke it) so whatever...
I realize people consider him a role model, but it's not his job, that's what parents are for
yeah missy!
after all he didn't do anything that a huge majority of others aren't already doing it's not like he was snorting!
I think many of us would let it go to our heads too! it was quite out there...
Yeah a lot of young swimmers look to him as a role model but also a lot of companies pay him to endorse their products. They are paying for the wholesome gold medal winning athlete, not a pot head.
I just don't understand why so many people expect all these athletes and actors to be role models for their kids. These people are human too, they make mistakes just like the rest of us. It's a parent's job to tell their kids what's right and wrong.
As parents we don't get to choose are children's role models. All we can do is try our best to be one of them.

And I guess that's why he lost his Kelloggs endorsement
I just think it's stupid that nobody seemed to care that he got caught drinking underage and even got a DUI, but of course that was BEFORE he won all of his medals so he wasn't pulling in money for them then.
Look, he got photographed and admitted to toking a big ole bong, of course Wheaties is going to react negatively.
The swim team has to appear it is reprimanding him, though the punishment means nothing in the grand scheme of competition.
Now for the potential drug charges, this I just do not get. Do we haul in front of a judge every poor soul who states his or her sorted past, whether it be on Dr. Phil or in casual conversation.
It's bulltooky...never pass this sniff test for evidence and smacks of posturing to get their faces on the cable news.
But I hear Zig Zag is signing him. ![]()
Oh yeah!!!! He does have some Easy Widers.

I feel slightly bad for him, I mean Kate Moss got much medai coverage over her whole thing and she was snorting cocaine!!! hello new reporters isn't that worse?!?!?!?! Maybe it's because she's not really a role model, or at least not in the same way as he is.
Next time he'll remember to do it behind closed doors, by himself

...like all the other athletes.
Maybe Tom Boonen is his role model.
Subway just dumped him too, I feel for the guy but come on when you're making that kind of money from endorsments......smoke all you want but you better do it in a closet with no cameras if you want to keep making that kind of money.
You know what ticks me off!!
First off I am not accepting that he smoked dope, I think that he really should have made better choices.
BUT!!! he was doing it with "friends" who just so happened to take a picture, and just so happened to leak it to the press. BULL!
Whatever! His "friends" may of had motivation!
