I was thinking of signing up for the Philadelphia Marathon in November. As I still have lots of training to do I'm thinking of just doing the half marathon. Anyone else thinking of signing up for the marathon?
I wouldn't mind doing a half marathon. It is one of my goals, always thought about it, never DID anything about it :(. Not sure if I could whip myself in marathon shape by Novemeber tho.
I'm thinking it can be done. I've been looking at it through Prevention's website and it looks like their focus is walking the marathon. They have walking calendars and stuff to help you train for it.
I know what you mean. I'm still debating whether or not to sign up. I am really nervous that I won't be able to do it, but it would be a great motivator. It's funny how different it is running on a treadmill and running on concrete. I can run about 5 mins or so on a treadmill without taking a break (I still need a lot of training) but when I run outside I'm like whoa! I can barely do a minute without taking a break.
Sadly I'm totally the opposite haha. I have issues with the treadmill, but outside i'm ok. I always feel like I'm sucking wind on the treadmill. Might be partially the fact that its kinda boring to run in place, not totally sure. I recently got new running shoes, made a lot of difference too :P
Even if you just finish with walking, its not bad! Plus once you get to the actual marathon, you will be so pumped and motivated you will drag yourself to the end. :)
Hi, if you want to run the Philadelphia Marathon its best if you've been running at least 15-20 miles/week for a while. Marathon training is usually 16 weeks and builds on a base of 15-20, so you could train for philly if you start RIGHT NOW!. Finishing a marathon is indeed absolutely great--I've run 4, once with my daughter who was 12 and finished in 6.5 hours--even that was really wonderful. There is a book for people who just want to finish--I think it is a 20 week training schedule, though--something like "marathons for beginners", if you are interested I'll find out the actual title. It talks you through training, psyching yourself up, interspersed with "true life tales" of other people who've done it.
I'm running in the NY marathon this year, am VERY psyched and am 2 weeks into the training program.
