Is anyone out there training for the Philly Half or has done it in the past?? I just started running in January and started seriously training for the half marathon last month. I drove the general course over last weekend and I got the heebie jeebies and was wondering if anyone else is training or has experience with the half marathon? It would be great to hear about it from someone else's perspective!
I'm probably going to run it. It's in November, correct? But man, the entry is $100. That's crazy. I haven't seen the course but I saw it on a map. Why the heebie jeebies? I ran the Broad St run in May and that was all flat, pouring down rain near the end, but flat. Let me know.
It's November 22nd and unfortunately the fee is $100 which I think is totally over the top. I have the heebie jeebies because I'm a bit frightened I won't be able to finish and because there's an ugly hill in the second half. How was the Broad Street Run? I'm already praying that it won't be raining.
i agree. my friend wanted me to run the marine corps 10k in DC mid October and the entry was $45. I told her I don't pay more than $25 for a 10k. But, if I can get my sister to enter the 1/2 I'll probably run it with her. It's like pulling teeth to get her to train for our triathlon this coming weekend (i had to give her my indoor bike trainer cuz she's afraid to get a flat on the road) The Broad St was good, we felt so rushed though cuz traffic was insane getting to the sports complex and our bus kept driving around in circles near the start line finding a place to drop us off while everyone on the bus was saying "your good right here" but i guess they had their dropp off spots. I didn't get to warm up or go to the bathroom before the start. And there were 27,000 people running. 27,000 people is way too many. Even if the course was flat and straight down Broad St, I was in a pack the entire time and finished in a pack. In my race photo from the finish line, you couldn't even disguinish me because 1)everyone was soaked and freezing and 2) there were so many people there. I'm gonna do it and I think you should do it to! (i wish i could spot you the $100 but i can barely afford it myself)
Hi! I did the half marathon last year. It was dark and cold that early in the morning so be prepared!! I really enjoyed it though. It was the waiting around in the morning that I did not enjoy. I wore an old long sleeve over my other clothes to throw on the side as I began to run. I would suggest that for a colder day because you are definitely going to heat up! The course is fun and definitely keeps you interested. There were definitely more hills than I expected (or maybe it just seemed like they were hills!) but overall it was a nice course. I would also bring something to eat along the way because you want some more energy. Good Luck and if you have any other questions let me know! I think I only paid $60 something...
