Any phobias?
2. Heights
3. Bees
4. Dogs
5. Talking on the telephone
vicereine, I'm so amazed to find out someone else is afraid of the phone too! I avoid it at all costs.
uh I hate talking on the phone too! (my house phone though, not my cell phone) because if people call my house I know it is not for me, if they wanted to talk to me then they would call my cell... so it's just too annoying and too much of a hassle to get up and answer the phone, then find out its not for you and then run around the house screaming and looking for the person to whom it is for...
-being burried alive
-being burned alive
-freezing to death naked (like on Saw 3)
-that little girl from the Ring
Ok, my weirdest fear is probably clowns, having my curtains open when I'm asleep, and having the door open when I'm in bed.
Heights(because of a really bad experience when I was younger).
I'm EXTREMELY claustrophobic, and if I'm in an elevator I start hyperventilating. Once I was trying to get something from beside my bed (which was against the wall) and fell in between my wall and the bed. Oh. My. Goodness. I FREAKED out, and then I couldn't get myself out because I was so scared of being in there. It was bad.
Spiders, snakes, and bees. I'm mostly afraid of bees because I'm extremely allergic to them. I think that's it.
Just found out that I have an extreme fear of cremated remains aswell--I thought i was ok with it, but not at all.
Funny how the body reacts!
Phonophobia- Fear of tlaking on the phone
Athazagoraphobia- Fear of being forgotton or ignored
Achluophobia- Fear of darkness
Aichmophobia- Fear of needles
Athazagoraphobia- Fear of being forgotton or ignored
Achluophobia- Fear of darkness
Aichmophobia- Fear of needles
well, except for the achluophobia, I've got all of those too, mewkiwi!
as well as fear of cotton balls, fear of relationships, fear of commitment, fear of strange noises, and the occasional irrational panic attack! whee!
My weirdest phobia is toys coming to life...I know it hasn't happened yet...but it still creeps me out with toys with all but too real of eyes...I think its from watching childs play as a kid...toy story unnerved me when i was younger and i use to beat barbies heads because if you stare too long at her smile it looks like her lips move...it effing creeped me out!!!
I fear death as well and the dark some what too.
I'm also scared of being trapped in a house that might catch on fire...
and insect that intend to harm like bees and so on. spiders included
I don't think this counts as an actual "phobia" because it is very specific and easily avoided. I don't think I could force myself through a narrow gap in the rock under a mountain. I am scared of the thought of being trapped in that specific situation, although caving in general doesn't scare me. The idea of being trapped under a mountain where I can't move and you literally have to move a mountain to get me out? yeh no.
Aside from that I am not phobic about anything.
I am scared of dentists. Or not them per se, but what they will say about my teeth. If they'd promise me to just be quiet or if they even told me my teeth are fine, I could probably even hug them.
And a real phobia.. I think it's people reading my personal stuff. Even if I have nothing to hide, if someone is peeking over my shoulder or even trying to read my mail or diary, my heartbeat speeds up and I become really nervous. I must look like a criminal, but I can't help it.
I'm seriously, horribly, severely emetophobic.
Which equates to just being afraid in general of other people, public transportation, boats, amusement parks, anywhere alcohol is being served, anyone with any potential stomach illness, children, heights where people might get vertigo, public restrooms, airports, elementary schools, hospitals, doctor's offices... Anywhere anyone might possibly throw up.
Including in movies... If there's a vomit scene I have to know about it in advance or else it'll trigger a panic attack.
It's getting much better as I get older though...
Unfortunately, I think it knows my fear and targets me. I have friends that have never seen another person barf but I seem to be exposed to it all the time. >.<
OF course these aren't totally irrational since these are 3 of the top places that women get attacked.
BTW that thing about eating 8 spiders in a lifetime was actually a made-up statistic that was emailed in a hoax forward as an experiment to see how easily people accept things as fact just because they read them on the internet. See what Snopes has to say.
I used to be terrified of needles, couldn't even watch people getting shots on TV, but I decided to face that fear and got over it. I volunteered to get a flu shot a couple years in a row. That really helped. I still don't love needles since they hurt and all but I don't hyperventilate or nearly pass out anymore.
I don't like spiders but since I became a mom, I've had to kill a few to protect my kids, and that's helped me get over some of the anxiety.
Come to think of it, I've had quite a few of these in my lifetime but I'm pretty much over them all now. I think it just took that first step (getting the flu shots) to get me started and I've been confronting my irrational fears ever since. They really don't stand a chance when you face them head on.
LMAO ROFL!!!! I cannot even read all of these posts without dying of laughter!! I am at work and I'm trying to contain myself right now as I type. I am cracking up at some of these phobias...like the one about breathing the air of someone who just exhaled!!! LOLOLOL!!! The funny thing is my boyfriend is always riding me about my nostrils because I can flare them real big and when I get up in his face he says I'm stealing his air!!! OMG!!! LOL!!!! Well, whew...my phobias are as listed:
Spiders(eeek, I have been known to almost kill myself getting away from these)
Spickets(those half cricket half spider looking things that are in dark damp places, and can jump really high. My boyfriend's apartment complex has them real bad, I almost wanted to break up with him over them(pysch), no but I will knock you down to get away from one of these muthasuckas)
Dragon Flies (why do they love to fly around your car right when you are trying to get in it?)
Roaches, Waterbugs, Woodroach(whatever... a roach is a roach is a roach no matter what Orkin says)
Basically all insects!! I hate them all. That's why I do not care for the Summer time because you cannot go outside in peace without being harrassed by some kind of insect! That's all I can think of for now!

Original Post by sauvignon:In summary, anything with more than 4 legs or anything with no legs. Snakes are fine (for some reason), but worms, slugs, leeches, caterpillars, snails, milli/centipedes, crickets, spiders, jellyfish, mosquitoes, wasps, etc etc etc. No, I am not fond of butterflies unless they are at least 3 feet away and not coming towards me.
I really really cannot stand the slimy stuff - the worms/slugs/leeches/snails category. My blood literally turns cold and I FREEZE on the spot.
Oh yes I'm afraid of butterflies too!! I do not think they are beautiful in any way! And what they do to become butterflies is nasty! Ond day in college I almost got hit by a car crossing the street running trying to get away from a butterfly. Plus one day my bestfriend tried to put one on me and I about freaked and lost it and took off running!!! LOL!!!!
Original Post by wetmosaic:Spiders, hands down. It doesn't matter what size they are (although the bigger and hairier they are the worse it is). I was bitten by one when I was around 3 and have been freaked out by them ever since. It didn't get any better when I woke up one night with one behind my ear and it was the size of my damn palm. Okay, I was only about 7 by then and I had small palms, but dammit it scared me! Now, when I see them in the house, I have to kill them. If I don't see it die, then I can't sleep at night from thinking it's going to come crawl into my mouth while I'm asleep. I can't look at them in pictures. I can't watch them in movies or on tv. And I damn sure can't wear clothes that have those printed on them. I've nearly caused car accidents upon discovering one in the car. I don't even like the word. It's pretty bad.
I also have an irrational fear of cameras; having my picture taken, in particular. I'm not disfunctional or anything. I just have a really hard time having my picture taken. If a camera comes out, I either leave the room or cover my face. Every picture that I have is of me with AT LEAST 2 or 3 drinks in me (yes, including the one on my profile), because it seems to be the only way I can look at the camera without squirming, flinching, skin crawling, dying inside, etc.
OMG this is insane. I found someone who is just like me when it comes to spiders!!! I cannot look at them on TV. Why someone would make a ridiculous movie like Aracnophobia is beyond me!! I cannot wear anything with them on it either. LMAO!!! This discussion is hilarious!!
