Phrases & Terms that bug me
I'm sure you all care oh so much, but I'm bored so....
- referring to regular mail as "snail mail" - not cute... annoying
- "you didn't gain it all at once, don't expect to lose it all at once"
a) how do you know I didn't gain it all at once?
b) not really all that helpful
- anything having to do with Twitter or tweeting
- when people say "I could care less" - If you say that it means that you care, because you could care less than you currently do. The phrase is " I couldn't care less" implying that you care so little you possibly couldn't care any less than you do already.
- starting a sentence with "not to be rude, but..." OK if you start a sentence like that then you definitely are going to be rude so either embrace it and just be rude or don't say it.
Other annoying things: Posts like this one. But hey, I'm bored so if you are too share the sayings that bug you. Its great for stress relief.

Not that I'm perfect or anything cause I make these mistakes too BUT... I'm a total grammar nazi. It drives me BONKERS when stuff is just written poorly. I can understand small errors, hey it happens, but when people talk in text speak or never use a coma... I just... kinda wanna go POP!
Yeah, I can fall into a coma when people don't use a comma. :)
Ah jeez! I just knew I'd make a boo boo complaining about something like that, haha.
Damn it! *shakes fist at herself*
I just couldn't resist.

I just want to tone, not bulk...
hahahahahaha... I hate that too. ... How do I tone my arms without bulking up, I can't do the stairclimber because I'll bulk up, etc... so annyoing.
Related and also annoying: I want to tone, not lift weights/strength train.
Its all the same.

Alot of slang bugs me, I don't get like, super annoyed by them, but they make me wanna do this:
when I hear them. :P
One that bugs me is "alot." A lot is always two words. For someone who is a "grammer nazi" like you, you should know that. LOL.
Also, "alright." It's "all right." Again, always two words. I saw someone the other day behind me in line with a shirt that said, "Everything is going to be alright." It drove me crazy!! I wanted to say something, but I held my composure.
They aren't phrases, but they drive me crazy.
Ohhhh a smack down of the grammar nazi. Two mistakes in the same post complaining about bad grammar.
What fun. :)
Edit: changed grammer to grammar === shakes fist at self.
with you on the "could care less"... ugh!
My hubby has a HUH habit that I'd like to kick right out of him. Huh? Huh?
I am also a grammar nazi, but the absolute worst are the gangsta-texters.. you know, not only do they "abrvt evry wd, but dey like yo mn u comin 2 git wit dat hell yah." Get is already only 3 letters! Can't you use the right ones?
Oh and a little one.. when people type "yeah" when they mean "yay". Yeah is not pronounced yay.
I do say "fixin to" a lot. I was raised in the south and we are always fixin to do something. :)
I'll remember more once I post this. LOL
Oh, A WHOLE NOTHER is not a real word/phrase!

It's alright if you're not all right. :P
From dictionary.com:
al⋅right Usage note:The form alright as a one-word spelling of the phrase all right in all of its senses probably arose by analogy with such words as already and altogether. Although alright is a common spelling in written dialogue and in other types of informal writing, all right is used in more formal, edited writing.
Damn. I nearly had myself convinced that 'alright' was all right.
I cringe when I hear "I just want to share this with you" when really it is just a preface to gossip.
Alright has been in use since 1893 according to dictionary.com.
alright
frequent spelling of all right, attested from 1893."You know what I'm saying?"
Of course I know what you're saying! You just said it!
"24/7"
I'm not sure why, but that one just bugs me!
Also, it's not a phrase or a term but it drives me absolutely bonkers when people pronounce the "s" sound at the end of Illinois
People who use the term 'pop' in reference to carbonated sugary beverages. I hate to break it to you, but the 50's are over.
Isn't that more of a regional distinction rather than a generational one?
You're not from the midwest are you. It's always been pop here. Probably always will.
By the way, I hate the word Nanna. She's your grandma not your nanna. I also hate Papa (pronounced paw paw) for grandpa. HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT.

I lived in the midwest for about 3 years. Just because something as always been a certain way doesn't make it any less wrong.
The midwest isn't wrong, you were just indoctrinated the wrong way.

I really hate it when people type "tht" instead of "that"... is it really that hard? Grrr!
I also hate the use of the word "clowning". As in "I'm just clowning around!" it really bugs me and I don't know why! "I'm just clownin' on ya."

CPT - not to pick on you because I find your posts to be intelligent and insightful but you are not a grammar nazi. No offense but grammar took a beating in your post, particularly punctuation. I almost never use apostrophes so I might make you pop. I make plenty of grammar errors. I should know. When reading, rarely does a grammar error get by me but they dont bother me.
The exception, though, is in your post and special because its an error my daughter has hammered me over the head with until it became an exception that makes me nutty. Its the random, unnecessary inclusion of the word 'like' in a sentence. So while reading, I cant help but see grammar errors, especially my own, which dont bother me but hearing or reading "like" forced into an otherwise correct sentence and like, such as, makes me cringe!
I wouldn't count that as a grammatical error. I would attribute it to being the way she talks.
Like, totally.
Basically both but daughter put mom in her place on something like this. I didnt mind the Texan talk until it came from my daughter who in my head was yankee because I was Jersey raised. Coming from her, "Y'all" sounded like she was putting on an act despite her being Texas born and raised.
I did my best to get it stopped early on, trying to switch her from "y'all" to the correct "all of you". Finally, she told me that at least "y'all" was short for something that was correct and pointed out I say "you guys' but that there isnt a correct version that includes "guys". All of you guys? No? Yeah, I know but like whatever.
"........the esteemed Brian Garner (6) notes that “alright” as one word 'may be gaining a shadowy acceptance in British English.'"
Although it's used often, it's technically not correct grammar. I'm in school for court reporting and we're told that we are in no way supposed to use "alright."
