I'm going to a body modification party on Friday, and after having given it much thought and consideration,  I can't decide whether I'm going to have my nipple pierced or have the "LaCoste" aligator tattooed on my pec.  It'll be my first either way, and while I respect the opinions of those opposed to tatts & piercings, rest assured I'm QUITE old enough to understand the potentential repurcussions, but would like to hear the opinions/suggestions of those who've gone down the road before.

I like piercings because their temporary. You take them out and they heal up. However, I also have 4 tattoos and will be getting more. I guess I'm not the best to give an opinion since I like both.

My suggestion... do both if you want it. hah
To be totaly honest I think the aligator would be a bit tacky. Plus peircings are less permanent blah blah. If you arent sure I would go for a peircing as you can take that out.

And whats a bod-mod party? Is it like a load of people getting tattooed/pierced all at this party? Sounds a bit odd!

Anyway make sure they tattoist/piercer is drunk/knowsoeiwhat they are doing and is clean! I just cant imagen people getting done all at once!

I'd go for the piercing myself... although just getting one nipple would be a little... lop-sided :'D

You never know if you'll still want that tat 4 years from now, butpiercings you can take out.

Which explains why I've got 15 piercings and no tattoos so far xDD

Thanks Alib!

I had my ear pierced when I was 15, and quit wearing an earring when I was 25.   Here we are, 20 years later, and I can still put in an earring without any problem!  Unfortunately, an earring doesn't look quite the same on a 45 year old businsessman as it did on a 20 year old actor!  therefore, pierced or tattooed, it'll be out of sight for the general public from here on in!
It would seem that piercing is in the lead thus far....
"And whats a bod-mod party?"

House party with professional tatts, piercings, brandings and scarifications available - not terribly unusual, even here in rural Ontario - or do I just hang with a cutting-edge crowd?

Don't just get the tattoo because you are going to the party, if you have thought about it for a while then go for it! Otherwise I love my nipple piercings they are fun to have so go for that!

and a body mod party sounds.....unsanitary. I know none of the shops in my city will do party because of the health hazards, and well, I don't think they like to look trashy.

Thanks schnood - kinda leaning toward piercing myself.

I understand the concern re: unsanitary, but I've actually been to parties before - way cleaner and more controlled than any tattoo parlour I've ever seen!  Plus, this particular practicianer specializes in "home parties" - with the approval of the Health Unit, so I'm not too worried about that aspect of it all.

Irony is dead. No LaCoste tattoo.

The single nipple pierce is a bit blah. I'd rather see some other tattoo ideas. Though, the other important quesiton is what, if anything, you already have.

Oh, you're looking for something hidable. Yeah, definiately a different tattoo. There just aren't any good readily concealible piercings for boys.

ALSO dont let anyone tell you they dont like your Lacoste tattoo idea. If they dont like it, screw em! If that is want you want on your body forever go for it. If people dont like my tattoos they can effoff. :)

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for SO long. I want one, but unfortunately as a girl, I cannot decide where to get it. (You see, I don't want it anywhere that it might become a balloon animal after pregnancy) I've decided that I want to get it on my back (either in the middle between my shoulder blades or on one shoulder--yet to be determined) I'm getting a snowflake because I LOVE snowboarding and I've grown up in the Rocky Mountains!

I've also had my lip, nose, belly button, and 5 different areas on my ears pierces.

To be honest, I'd wait until I got there to decide... get a feel for your surroundings and if you think you should go for the tattoo, do it! But if it seems a little sketchy, or your not feelin the tattoo artist--stick with something not permanent, like a piercing!

Hi... I have both and love both.  My nose is pierced and I haven't taken it out in a long long time, it's quite discreet but suits me well.  My tattoo was something very private and personal, and in my opinion that's the best kind.  At the end of the day you can only really count on yourself sticking around, if you get a tattoo I would suggest doing it privately, it'll have more meaning and importance that way.

But honestly what I think you should really do is go for broke, don't listen to anyone elses opinions, go with your gut instinct and have FUN!

I'm only giving my 2 cents because you asked.  I have both (tatts/piercings), and while I love one of my piercings, the other I got bored with and took out ( yes it closed up but wouldn't take much to reopen, it really depends on what you pierce Wink )

My tatt on the other hand I drew myself, carried around in my pocket for two years and carries some meaning.  I had to ask myself would I still love it at 80?  If the lacose alligator does that for you, screw'm' and get it.  If not?  You maybe don't want to become the older lady I saw in a bikini rocking a coors lite (beer logo) tatt, not such a good idea in retrospect.

Thanks for all of the input - yah, tattoos are forever - maybe I should reconsider - or instead of a 'gator, have a "best before" date tattooed on my butt!

Think I might hold off until I'm feeling passionate about it.

Hard to say because I'm into both:) a bit more into tats though, but you are right, maybe you should wait until you are more passionate about it.

I wil also say, I think it's incredibly lame that some of the posters felt the need to comment on the tattoo that you were thinking about getting. IMO, when you get any tattoos, they should have meaning to you and only YOU. It shouldn't be about what's "cool" or what other people think you should get.

The only thing I suggest is to really think about it and make sure it is something that will always have meaning to you.

OH and believe me, they are ADDICTING! I have 7 so far and plan on definitely getting some more done!

I have a tattoo... but I picked the artist and drawing and then waited two years. I still liked it after the two years... so I went and got it tattooed. It's art from one of my favourite artists, and something thats significant to me.

I like tattoos more than piercings just for the sheer artistry of it. But I feel the tattoo should be something with a personal meaning for you. Too many people just pick a piece of flash art off the studio wall. If that Lacoste alligator resonates with you for whatever reason, go for it!

i was at a water park and saw some guy with the tacckkkiessstttt polo man tattoo on his left pec. seriously, it was hilarious. and my friends and i were all making fun of it cause it looked so toolish.

please don't be that guy! go with the piercing.

Another vote for the piercing.

I say go with the tattoo-- but only if you have something that is meaningful to you.

I don't have any piercings (other than the ones in my ears :-) ) but just got my first tattoo this last April.  I thought about what I wanted for about a year- and absolutely LOVE the result!!!!
