Just pigged out the past two days...need help.

So on Friday it was my brother's b-day, we went to a buffet. I had not eaten much at all that day so I could make sure I didnt go over my calorie limit when I ate at the buffet.

When we go there, I tried to have a salad, fill up on water, etc. But the sight and smell of the food got the best of me. I ended up eating about 3 platefuls of food, and dessert.

The next day (Saturday) I felt really bad. (I always feel guilty over eating too much now because I have just lost 10 lbs. and wanna keep it off). Anyway, I planned to restrict my diet further so that I can compensate for the day before.

It started out bad, as I had some salty Top Ramen soup for breakfast (because i woke up late). But as the day went on I did alrite. But after dinner I binged again, as i had 1/3 bag of chips, 3 bowls of cereal, and a lot of granola bars.

Today (Sunday) I'm feeling even worse, and I have no motivation to exercise anymore. Im too discouraged. I am also trying to "compensate" again to even out my calorie intake.

Please can anyone help me with my problem of occassional bingeing? And how can I bring myself back up again to continue my diet and exercise?

And what should I do to burn off the "extras" and continue my regimen? I need to do this fast, as I had a pancake for breakfast (I can feel the binge monster coming...)

i have exactly the same problem as you, and i know how hard it can be when you start the day off on a binge, as you then loose motivation for the rest of the day.   Dont go overboard on trying to work off the excess calories you consumed the past two days, start afresh.  also, if you've only eaten one pancake thats not too bad, might be more calories than you would usually have for breakfast but its not an excessive amount of food.  I dont know what your schedule is like for today but you could try taking a nap, then when you wake up just pretend that its a new day and your going to do it all without overeating.  To get back into the swing of things i reckon the best thing is to go for a run/swim/cycle/walk or something like that even if you really really really dont want to; afterwards you'll feel much better and a healthy lunch and dinner should even out the rest and get you back on track.  hope this helps a little

well,i know how the after binge feels like cause..I'm A BINGER TOO!!!haha.. Trying to cure it..I'm not sure if it works for you but you could try what i was/still doing..

Don't fret about overeating..I overeat by a thousand or two and I try not to care about it as much as possible..The main problem isn't overeating..Its binge..First cure binge..Then cure overeating..It works a lot for me..cause you see..Before this,if i overeat, I'd have the idiotic thought of, "Since I over my Calorie intake already, why not just a little more?" and this goes on to 7000calories per day just because of a 300 cals over..stupid?ya..think so too..

and the case is rest..Cool

i know it's a few days late, but i know exactly how you feel! i do this a lot too. i've found that binging for 2, even 3 or 4 days in a row shouldn't affect your weight, but anymore than that will! so don't beat yourself up over those 2 days, the occasional day of consuming more calories than your calorie allowance can actually help boost your metabolism and keep your body from getting too used to a low calorie diet (and then your body would slow your metabolism a little since you're eating less...)

and for the exercise part, maybe try to get a friend to go exercise with you to keep you more accountable for going, and make it more fun. once you get into the gym for 2-3 days in a row, it will become habit again and you'll be working out regularly again!

hope you're back on track now that it's a few days later! and hopefully this advice will help you in the future =)

thnx for all the replies. I feel much better. And yea it makes sense that I should stop fretting about it. I'll "start over"so to say

Overly restricting calories just sets you up for overeating.  That creates an unhealthy cycle, where you try to over compensate by undereating, and end up so hungry that you overeat again.

Having too many cals on one day isn't going to stop your progress.  There's nothing wrong with saving a few extra calories for a special occasion, but starve yourself all day for a special occasion, and by the time you get there, of course the smell and sight of food is going to trigger your body for overeating.  It thinks it's starving!  And when the body thinks it's starving, it wants "the good stuff", fat laden foods and foods full of sugar.  Next time, try saving no more than a couple hundred calories for the special event, and you may find that you have far more control when you get to the buffet, and you will be able to eat a more reasonable amount.

After the buffet, you rather set yourself up to fail by over-restricting calories again.  The best thing to do after a slip, is to go back to your normal healthy habits as soon as possible.  Think of each day as a new day, don't fall into the trap of trying to make up for what happened yesterday.

On a side note, I'd like to add that Ramen noodles is a food I totally gave up when I started my healthy habits.  It's not just the salt, but for a soup it is very high calorie and high fat.  there are some good healthier soups out there, like certain flavors of Progresso, Healthy Choice, Campbells' Healthy Request, etc.  You might want to look into a healthier soup to have around.
