I have to take the pill today? HELP! Im a newbie!

Hey guys..

Well my gyno has finaly prescribed some birth control pills for me to take. I know Im supposed to take the pill the first day of my period. Problem is I dont have a period, hence me being prescribed the pill for treatment.

Here's the issue.

In the past few days I've gotten all the signs of getting my period soon. Aching breasts/sore nipples, mood swings, weight gains/water retentions, bloating, abdominal discomfort/aches and even a headache.

I haven't taken the pill in hopes of getting my period without the pill (trusting that all the signs I was getting were really PMS, not just a sign that I am doing the right thing!). Well after many days of nothing happening (but I still have the sore nipples) yesterday I had very sharp pains on my abdomen...but I decided that next day (meanign today) during the morning I would start on the pill. But...this morning I wake up, still with sharp pains, and a bit or sore nipples, AND pink-ish stains!

so here's the big Q!

Should I take the pill today that my period sort of started? (I mean, the pink stains must be something like a period..maybe not it exactly but the closest thing Ive had to a period in 2 months), or should I wait and see if my periods return to normal?

HELP! Im confused..and I really want to get things right this time around!

thanks in advance :)

EDIT:

I dont know if this is important, but still I wanted to add a bit of more info to this. I have PCOS so the sharp pains (specialy since they are mostly located on my right ovary-big ouch) may be a nasty little cyst.

Call the gyno and ask.

take the pill.

I agree with vanexxag.

Take the pill. this is the closest 'symptom' you might have of your regular cycle. So start the pills and your hormones should work themselves out.

Technically you can start a package of pills anytime during your cycle - and your body will (eventually - sometimes it takes 2 months or so) adjust.

It's just suggested to start when you start your cycle so that your next period is 28 days later instead of oh... say 38 days later. Not a big deal though.

Happy pill swallowing. :)

I agree with jef9up--take the pill.

A new pill pack can be started at any time during the cycle, but they recommend taking it on the first day of one's period so that one is "protected" (i.e. can't get pregnant) starting immediately. If one were to start taking the pill halfway through the cycle, for instance, they'd need to use a backup birth control method (condoms/abstinence) for a week before the pill starts working.

So the only concern is that if you're sexually active, you'd want to use condoms or abstain for a week. (But considering that you're spotting and have PMS, it sounds like you should be fine. But better safe than sorry, right?)

Best of luck. This might be me soon--I had my blood drawn yesterday to test for FSH, estradiol, TSH, etc. because I've been only spotting for the last 7 months.

hey everyone!

thanks for all the advice. I didnt take the pill yesterday...but I still have today to take it if anything or at least until next month  if things dont go the way I want them to.

this WAS my period. Im still on it today, and will count the days to see how close to a normal period this is...but I have a feeling this is the real thing...which makes me really happy, because it was completely natural, and things in my body must be going great :)

should I still take the pill or wait til next month to see what happens???

thanks everyone :)

Take the pill anyway - this might be a "freak" period and you may have troubles down the road without the pills. Also, make sure you eat enough food.  With low body fat percentages, women lose their periods.
