Pimp my Peanut Butter Sandwich

Quote  |  Reply

I wanna make a peanut butter sandwich for Tuesday lunch. I'll be pulling long hours at work. I figure it will be good energy...and very tasty.

Trouble is, I don't know what else to add.
I don't like bananas, apples or jelly on pb sandwiches(I do like bananas and jellies in other situations).

Call me crazy.

Anyone have some healthy additions to a peanut butter sandwich? Or am I doomed to fruit and jellies?

Nope, not doomed.  You can add: honey, celery, other fruits that aren't banana or apples, like crisp pears (maybe you don't like them either since they can be similar to apples...)  You can find some good ideas at PB&Co's menu... Some good ideas there.

top it with slivered nuts and maple syrup after toasting the bread first.

spread flavored cream cheese on the other side...if you like strawberries you could add that too with the cream cheese

that's all i can think of off the top of my head sorry. just be adventurous...i'd love to know what you think of it. maybe have one as a snack tonight so you don't make it, dislike it, and starve or head to the vending machine while at work!!

Hmm..how about some carrots and tofu with some kind of savoury/sweet/ mildly spicy Asian dressing? Or cheese, veggies and a sweet/hot pickle?

Plain PB + grated carrot = awesome sandwich. Also - this sounds kinda weird but I lvoe it - PB and cottage cheese. Or PB and raisins or dried figs or dates. I don't know how you feel about dried fruit, but I actually tend to like it better on the sammies than jam. Its a little less sweet and it gives it some chew.

This is a completely different "peanut butter sandwich" than the regulation ole' PB&J, but it's a great alternative. Take your PB, and mix in a little soy sauce and Thai sweet chili sauce, spread it on your bread of choice, and then add chicken breast, bean sprouts, thinly sliced red peppers, and even a few chopped whole peanuts for crunch, if you like.

It's like peanut Pad Thai sandwich-style.

I saw an Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network one time that featured this restaurant called PB Loco. They specialize in PB& (you fill in the blank) sandwiches and snacks. Their website (www.pbloco.com) has their menu- you could get ideas there.

Also, this is REALLY strange and I've never tried it (and not sure if I ever will), bu I've heard of people putting PB and pickles together. Maybe you're adventerous and might like it!

Honey, bananas, strawberries

I've put plantation chips on my peanut butter sandwich before and loved it! Dried plantations...low calorie, crunchy, low sodium, high potassium.

These ideas are AMAZING! Thank you guys!

I actually have a few jars of PB&Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams and White Chocolate Dreams. But I'm really interested in the savory asian recipes.

I'm gonna try:Reduced Fat Skippy-mixed with cayenne pepper, ginger, sesame seeds, soy sauce/ Chopped carrot/Lettuce/Chopped Dates

Looking forward to lunch. :D

Baby spinach on a peanut butter sandwich is great, just sounds weird.

I also like PB, honey and garlic sandwiches.

I don't like jelly either.  I go for fruit preserves with no sugar added.  My favorite is Whole Foods 365 Seedless Blackberry fruit spread.  If that doesn't appeal, thin sliced apples are nice in a sandwich with peanut butter.  It adds crunch and juiciness.

what about granola for a crunch? also not healthy but: nutella (yum!) or shredded coconut

You can always change up what bread you use too (English muffin, pita, cinnamon raisin bread, etc)

I like to shred about 1/2 an apple in my sandwiches

I like Jenny's idea about granola,  I'm sure lots of different cereals would taste good.

Cinnamon or honey is fantastic with peanut butter.

peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches are my favourite.

i know, sounds disgusting.  but so so good.

This sounds weird but is pretty good, a sliced, fried veggie dog on peanut butter toast. Lots of protein and it has the sweet/salty thing going for it!

If you don't like bananas, have you tried plantains?  They have banana flavor, without the sweet.  If they weren't so expensive here, they would be a frequent item at my house.

I like peanut butter with honey, and I think I will try the peanut butter and cream cheese - that sounds good.  I knew someone who ate peanut butter and potato chip sandwiches - sounds pretty icky to me.

I would advise you to try a lot of things - anything you would dip into peanut butter is a good possibility.

Bacon.Smile

DOOD! I was ust about to say turkey bacon. It makes no sense but then again, neither does work so there. Also, grape nuts or goji berries. Dried blueberries and/or strawberries are awesome and im sure dark chocolate powder would taste awesome.

A girl on my team packed amazing energy wraps for our last tournament...Try pb, honey, craisins, almonds and cereal on a wrap! (She used Basic Four cereal which has crains, almonds and the cornflakes mixed together) I've had it on wheat bread also if you prefer.  Enjoy!
