Does it piss you off when....

Quote  |  Reply

People keep telling you how skinny you look. Even though you haven't lost very much weight at all. I mean jeeze, was I a total cow five pounds ago?! Why do they do that? Do you think they really mean it or are they just upset that they don't look thin? What's the worst is when it's an absolutely perfect person saying it to you. Like, "Wow, you look half as good as me today! That's great! Good work..." Grr

People say it because they all of a sudden notice you've lost. Maybe it's the clothes you're wearing that day.

You also need to realize that losing pounds versus inches are totally different. Sometimes I'd be staying about the same weight, but I'd be losing inches faster.

and....sometimes after a loss we carry our frames with more confidence and ease in our skins, people notice the change in the parts of us that speak in the language of movement and the wordless grace that happens when we actually like ourselves.

Folks lack communication skills and default to easy language... weight, hair style, clothes, etc.

I honestly like hearing it...HOWEVER..I hate when they say that you should stop now because you look good even though you technically still have quite a bit of weight to lose and are no where near to be perfectly fit only dropping a few pounds. That can be annoying.

I think people notice it your face. Most people mean well when they say it. Just take it as a complement and than them. Wink

What would you prefer people say?  'Oh my goodness you look so fat and ugly!'?   For heaven's sake, they're just trying to say something nice.  Lighten up.

This pretty much sums up how I feel on the subject. I've also noticed that it's only women who feed you the BS about stopping or not needing to lose more. I think it's because there are certain types of women who want to discourage you from losing weight so you won't be their "competiton".

Haha NO! That would be so mean! But it's when they say it with the undertone of being annoyed that you look good when it bugs me. For example this girl (I would kill for her body) was looking me up and down one day and goes "Wow, you look really skinny this year. Did you lose like 50 pounds this summer?" I lost 3. haha I couldn't tell if she was trying to be nice or making some secretly mean fat joke! Tongue out

That would be a sure sign of jealousy and I think it's sad that you couldn't see it for what it was and instead doubted yourself.

She sounds like she was being catty.

She sounds like a b**ch. lmao.

I'd like the opportunity to find out if I'd be pissed, that would mean somebody noticed!

  • Or they could just want to start a conversation
  • want to pay you a compliment that they think you'll like
  • or are fishing for a compliment for themselves

hey I saw ur thing about being skinny, I get the same thing all the time, I just ignore it, I know I am kinda skinny but Its how I see myself not them, if they go out of there way to say something maybe they are jealous who knows, but dont wry

I like those comments much better than the ones my neighbor usually comes up with.

A few weeks ago, he started a conversation with, "What's wrong?  You're so skinny.  Do you have cancer?"      No, I'm not kidding.  He actually asked that.  I barely know the guy.

Yesterday, he said, "What's wrong?  You look old.  Are you sick?"  Then pointed to my eyes as if I had huge bags around them.  I ran home and checked.  No bags that I could discern.

Hubby and I have decided the guy is not only a complete social idiot but also a jackass.

Kind of reminds me of this guy at the subway station that asked my mom and I if we had a cigarette, we said no we don't smoke, and he said we had cheeks like a smoker?

As for the OP, I generally don't like it either, I guess it makes you think about people noticing that you were overweight before.
