pizza in europe, eating the whole thing
ok i just have to say....everywhere i have traveled in europe, almost every country people order there own pizzas, i usually try and convince someone to share with me, but they look at me like i am crazy, i m not saying i could not eat a whole great pizza, but how can everyone do this i estimate 1500 cals in the pizzas sure they are thin crust less cheese, and topping but realy i see everyone order this and everyone finish, am i totally overestimating these calories, i am thinking 800 for he crust 400 for cheese, 300 for sauces and toppings. and if you dont get toppings like meat, i hadsalmon and shrimps today, of course it would be less but then they put more chesse. ok its strange but does anyone else tnk it is wierd
in places like pizza express in england (italian inspired pizza chain) it's normal to order an individual pizza - it's about 525 for the whole thing but they're not enormous, about 12" with a really thin base xxxxx
The pizzas in Italy (and Pizza Express, lol) are quite a different animal to the US-style ones - thinner base, not fried in corn oil, less cheese, less meat etc. I'd say you're definitely over-estimating with 1500/pizza. Example: http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-pizza- express-i76663. 620 cals isn't an obscene amount for a meal.
I live about 50 yards from our local Italina pizzaria (in Germany, in case you missed my screen name :) ). We eat there about once every two months, and I always eat the entire thing. It's delicious. I don't worry about the cals on those days because I'm sure they're outrageous.
When hubby and I were in Italy, we would get two main course items, for example, a pasta dish and a pizza. Then we would split both items. If we both had pizza, I usually took leftovers with me, although I think it might've been a cultural faux pas. *shrugs?*
This brings back memories. Best Pizza I ever had was in Venice. It had like three or four different cheeses. It was so damn delicious!

no i dont think 600 cals is an alot for a meal, i ate half there are no way these could have 600 as a whole, and all the other pizza places that i have been, not in quality, but size, style, they seem to be pretty uniform through the places i have lived-traveled, and i am just surprised, but i just had dinner with my european family...nope i am not on student exchange, i actually have european family and am visiting them they had cake for dinner, whole pizza for lunch and cake instead of dinner. i am in recovery and i just find this eating to be so far from what i am trying to learn, but they are all very fit and very comfortable with themselves. its very interesting...but i made myself a proper meal, well what i consider a proper one
Most authentic Italian pizzas I have eaten have been really healthy - a thin crust, a tomato base and a few quality toppings and herbs sparingly used. In this context, there's nothing wrong with eating a whole pizza.
If no-one wants to share, probably better to just order your own and not eat the whole thing.
in america and uk, pizzas are about excessive amounts of cheese and lots of fat in the dough
italian pizza is all about the tomato sauce
they have less cheese by a LONG way and less dough also by a very very long way
enjoy the whole pizza and its definately not 1500
if its not thin, its not italian
Yep, real Italian pizza(the kind that I LOVE, American style gives me a stomach-ache) is actually pretty healthy. Nice thin crispy crust, lots of tomato sauce. The Pizza Express pizzas are to die for and they're only about 600 calories at most.
