What do you think about Pizza?

I love pizza.  I am from NYC and the pizza here is DELICIOUS!!!!  If I could eat it everyday I would and fit it into my calories but do you think that would harm my weight loss?

Depends on the kind.  If you make your own whole wheat pizza, go easy on the cheese and load it up with fresh veggies and fruits then you've got a good thing going.

Oh I'm talking about restaurant style.  When I buy it I usually put mushrooms and brocolli or some type of veggie.  I never put any kind of meats on it I am not a big meat eatter.

Generally I buy the small personal size cheese pizza and load it up with fresh pineapple, onion, peppers, chicken breast, and tomato.  For the most part, the restaurant pizzas are overloaded with calories and cost a small fortune.

yes ofcourse you can have it.  plan it in, maybe 1/wk, just plan it.  im from NJ, i KNOW the pizza! lol just preplan, thats all!

I looove NY-style pizza.  For me, if I can't have the foods I love once in a while, I can't stick to my diet.  Just be careful how you log it... cc counts 1 slice of cheese pizza as 140 calories, which is ridiculous. I'd guess that 1 slice of NY-style is more like 600-800. But yeah, if it fits into your calories for the day, that's great.

i think i estimate it as a slice of SBARRO's pizza, whatever that is

I <3 JOHN'S BRICK OVEN PIZZA AND BLEECKER STREET PIZZA! WOOHOO!

God, I love the Village. :) Gotta eat that stuff in moderation, but god the sauces are delicious and they are proud of their dough.

I love pizza in general too ^^ I only eat like a slice or two if I get like papa johns.. if you get lean cuisine ones they are only like 330 ish and they taste alright.

I really like Giordano's stuffed pizzas in chicago, except they are packed with calories. oh well I don't live in chicago anyhow ^^

I would not eat it everyday but there is nothing wrong with pizza if you are choosing the right kind. Whole wheat, thin crust, light on the cheese, veggies instead of sausage and pepperoni. Or make it at home. Another little trick you can do to remove some of the fat and calories is to dab the top of each slice with a paper towel before eating it to remove some of the grease. I read an article once that said with some pizza  you can remove up to 100 calories a slice just by doing that. I do it with every kind of pizza and I am always amazed how much oil and grease I remove. When I order pizza I always ask for half of the cheese. That cuts down hundreds of calories and fat on each pizza.

I love pizza too and like you could probably eat it everyday. I found Kashi roasted veggie pizza recently. Thin, whole wheat crust and not too bad for you. Can get it almost anywhere now. I also make my own with whole grain English muffins. Yummy.

Or use buckwheat or whole wheat flour and make  your own crust. Or use whole grain pitas or tortillas. Tons of ways to do it. Oh, Mama Mia pizza!!! Smile

Remember, it's calories in vs calories out.  Weight loss doesn't depend so much on where the calories come from.  But good nutrition does!  Pizza is high in sodium, but it can be wholesome.  As others have pointed out, most of the calories and fat are in the cheese and the crust.  Thin crust and half the cheese would be fine.  At our local place they do one with chopped fresh tomatoes, red onions, spinach and blobs of ricotta cheese.  It's really good and healthy, and I figure about 275 calories for a slice of a medium pizza.  There's less salt because of no tomato sauce and no mozzarella.

Yea I guess everything is in moderation.  As long as I don't have to give it up I will have it once a week and I am going to try the ones with just marinara sauce and veggies.  I c sometimes they put oil on those but how much oil can it really be or I can ask them not to put the oil.  Thanks everyone.  Pezzle The pizza there is to die for I love it.  There is also a placed called patzies they are great as well.

I make pizza at home with half whole wheat, half unbleached all purpose crust (made with olive oil and dried oregano, it's really good), a quick homemade sauce (tomato paste, water, and spices) then top it with lots of veggies (also pineapple chunks :D) and some olives for that fatty, greasy texture you look for in pizza.  No cheese required, and the fiber and protein makes it super filling for not a lot of calories.

All and all, it's cheap, easy, cruelty free, and delicious. Smile  If you really want to have pizza pretty regularly (more than once a week or so), I would go for something like that.  Though there's nothing wrong with indulging in a slice of the "real stuff" every once in a while.  Also, you can easily blot off 40-100 calories worth of oil with a napkin when it comes to most commercial pizzas.

Im not a big fan of pizza but my mom is, and when I HAVE to eat it, I usually take a pizza called Parmiamo from a pizzeria chain called Kotipizza. The whole pizza is only 630 cals! O_O Its sooo amazing, considering I always eat only ½ of it! Its mostly veggies and it only has some parmesan cheese on it, and the crust is veryvery thin. Too bad my old favorite, frutti di mare, is not that low cal... ^^'
