Pizza, Ice Cream, and College
So I have just started college and my big goal of this year is to turn the freshman 15 into the freshman negative 10. I've been doing AMAZING. The first day was move in day and I actually thought I ate too little. The next day I had an incredible work-out that burned enough so I was able to eat 1500 cals of real food, have 3 shots, and still be within my calorie limit. Then yesterday was my first "bad" day of college but I'm not even sure it was so bad. Ok first I had an "ok" work-out. I was glad I did it, but I'm not sure it was fantastic. At my college I walk SO much, I changed my base calorie burn to light activity to account for that, but I almost think it's moderate because seriously - I walked up SO many steps, I walked uphill, I walked around boston (where I go to school) and probably burned TONS of calories - but my food was terrible! For lunch I went to this sandwich place on campus - I had a panini with mozarella, tomato, and pesto - YUM. It was on two pieces of freshly baked bread and it was all melted and gooey in the middle. I also had a side of frozen edamame. Then we went to boston for an italian festival. My dinner was a canoli and half a scoop of ice cream - delicious! but not very filling. At this point I estimate myself at about 1300-1500. Then we get back to campus and they're giving out free ice cream sundaes, I wouldn't have had any if I wasn't so hungry. This boy I was with got one and split it with me. It was about a scoop of vanilla with chocolate sauce, m&ms, sprinkles, whipped cream - the works! I only had half but after that I'd put myself at 1800-2000 cals. THEN we ordered pizza. Disgusting greasy late night college pizza. I only had two slices of cheese pizza and I blotted the crust, but for sure I'd estimate the whole day at 2500 cals. What do you guys think of this estimation? Before lunch I had 600 cals (breakfast and post work out snack). I'm thinking if I did do 2500 it's not half bad, with my work-out logged on top of light activity my burn meter said 2300 - and the amount of walking I did DEFINITELY got me up much further! I think I might have still eaten within in a defecit, even though it wasn't very nutritious.
Bleh I'm sorry that was so long - what do you guys think about my choices?
You're bound to have a day where you don't eat the way you should. I would just look at it as a high calorie day to boost your metabolism and watch what you eat the next day. I wouldn't even bother trying to figure out how many calories were in all of that stuff. It's a lot. But really, one day isn't going to kill you. Just don't do it all the time.
That's wonderful that you're fighting the freshman fifteen. I was like you when I started college. I lost 25 pounds my freshman year. Unfortunately I've gained some of that back, so I'm losing again.
Exercising is really important. That's awesome that you're doing that. That will help a lot with keeping the freshman fifteen off. My biggest advice to you--because I know I ate out a lot when I was a freshman--is go online and look up how many calories are in your favorite places to eat. A lot of restaurants list nutritional information on their website, and I find that very helpful. A lot of mom and pop places won't, but if you go to a chain they almost definitely will.
One more tip--don't forget to plan for alcohol. If you plan on drinking know that liquor has a lot of calories and so do the things that you mix it with. Sticking to light beer is probably safest. Counting your calories also ensures that you're not the drunk stupid girl at the party. (I only have enough calories for two beers...) Sip slowly and alternate with water, and you'll keep the freshman fifteen off easy and even lose your ten!
I don't really have anything to add to what she just said.. I concur!
But I do want to say that it certainly sounds like you had a fun day! :-)
