Pizza, the Silent Killer

Pizza = complete lack of will power...Pizza is my greatest challenge in life right now!  What are your vices/weaknesses?  how do you put down slice number 4?  WHat kind of thought processes/distractions/reset buttons do you guys use when your biggest temptation stares you in the face in the office kitchen?  any advice?!

Shannon, I couldn't even start my intake change with out solving pizza.  My wife LOVES pizza and I am charged with making it.

What I did is make pizzas, single serving, calorie counted pizzas.  I made mine so it would fit in my calorie budget and still be pizza.

As for my wekkness, open nibble foods like chips, nuts, fruit, carrots, m&m's any small food that one peice won't add up to a lot...but 20 or 30 will.

We don't keep that stuff around the house 'ready to use' any more.

Blech, yuck, gross, disgusting. How could anyone eat pizza!!!! Atleast I try to convince myself of that! But I am weak for pizza too. Its ok with a side of Preperation and a glass of moderation.
I don't like pizza! :) What stops me from going for seconds, or even firsts for that matter, is looking at the label or looking up the nutrition stats of certain foods. For example, if I see that a small cookie has 100 calories, there is NO WAY I will eat it. It's just NOT worth it. There are way better things I can "spend" 100 calories on. Also, try thinking that it's not the last pizza (or whatever) that you are going to eat. Have a couple of slices and you'll have it again another day. Myself, I like to eat foods with moxy, not things that are just "fluff" (like pizza) or stuff that just slides right down your throat without a little tooth action (like mashed potatoes, etc.).

By the way, I do make "pizza pitas" which are simply divine. Use pita bread (100% whole grain) or flatbread. Top with less than 1/4 cup sauce, mushrooms and onions and 1/4 cup Mozzerella and broil. (Toast the bread first). YUM! and good for you too!
oh pizza...how do i love thee....

seriously, if i had to choose one food to eat for the rest of my life, it would be pizza! i absolutely love it. i think having a cheat days is very important, and when i have a cheat day, i have it! watching calories is imporant, but not important enough to always deny yourself something as awesome as pizza!
I got over my love of pizza when I was struggling with heartburn. Pizza was a sure-fire way to trigger a nasty bout. And it doesn't taste so great coming up in your throat at 4 am. :-(

Now that the heartburn is cured, we do have pizza twice a month. But I only eat two slices. That's all I ever would eat anyway. I stop at two because I realized that you don't really taste slice 3 and 4. It's just mindless eating after the second slice.

I like mine with tons onions, green peppers, kalamata olives and tabasco sauce. :-)

Two slices are about 570 cals.... I can afford that on days I exercise.
I must say I love pizza but the Lean Cuisine pizzas are too shabby.  I rather like them and they come in at around 300 k depending on the type.  Helps me get over my pizza  condition
I meant  they aren't too shabby - meaning they are good.  lol
Try the South Beach Diet pizzas!  They are absolutely fabulous.  The Lean Cuisine pizzas are delicious, but they still taste kind of healthy...the South Beach pizzas taste like the real thing.  It's the perfect fix for a pizza craving, and a total steal at 330ish calories!
I am the biggest pizza lover ever, and this is a GREAT pizza, I swear!!  Use whole wheat pita bread as a crust, then add spaghetti sauce and all the toppings you want- veggies, low fat or fat free cheese, etc.  Heat the oven to about 400 and pop it in for 6 minutes.  Sooooooo good and not bad at all!  That's what I'm having tonight for dinner.  Seriously, try it.  It's AWESOME!

Edit: I just read alayney's post.  Oops!  But at least we agree that it's good! :)
weakness = chipotle
I love pizza! And as I live in Chicago, I obviously love Chicago pizza. There is no way to make a healthful Chicago-style deep dish pizza, but I do occasionally make normal pizza out of 100% whole wheat Boboli crust with low fat mozz, pizza sauce, turkey pepperoni & other lean toppings.

But when I really jonesed for a Chicago style pizza, I went out with my partner and we split a small. By being careful with my calories at breakfast & lunch, it just barely fit into my calorie allotment for the day (a small is 9" so 1/2 is 2 small slices).
Honestly (and I know someone will jump on me for this) I control pizza portions by having a 16oz bottle of diet pop with it.

Carbonation really fills me up so I physically can't eat more pizza.  (Plain water works too but not as well and I don't like fizzy water.)
I love pizza.  More precisely, I love cheese.  So I can't have it because I absolutely cannot control how much I eat.  But my ultimate weakness is french fries. especially in milk shakes.  my goodness, delicious!
for me it's regular pasta with just butter and salt.  whole grain/wheat doesnt do it for me.
i had to stick all the pasta up and to the side so when i open the pantry it's not the first thing i see.

It's snacks for me...ANY kind of snack at all.  From the ridiculously unhealthy ones (chips, gummi candies, chocolate, cookies) to "healthy" ones (A WHOLE POUND of grapes, dried cranberries, granola bars), I eat too much.

I know my problem is, when I feel nibbly, I walk over to the pantry and pull out just a small handful of stuff.  Maybe 10 dried cranberries or one tiny fingertip-sized cookie...and I don't count these.

Gragh!

I love pizza too!! I worked at papa johns for like 3 years and gained so much weight its crazy, but it was yummy and free and I often had 8-10 hour shifts so how could I resist right??? Well I still love pizza of course so what I do is I try to leave calories for pizza.  I get the Red Baron 4-cheese pizzas (frozen) and I can eat 1/2 the pizza for 800 calories!  A lot of calories... and they are bad calories, but I can manage to leave room for them if I really want it and not feel horrible, because in the end.. I didnt go over.  The pizza itself isnt bad at all.. the pizza is a large size, and its not a "light, fat free, reduced calorie, whole wheat" type of pizza or anything haha so it really tastes good!
Ah, I can't give up pizza. When I get it I just get one slice and it's plenty for me. And only $1.90!
For me it's anything sweet, chocolate etc. I find there is no way possible for me to make chocolate chip cookies without eating at least 6 or 10. I thought I could do some baking (which I enjoy) if I made healthy muffins instead, but even though I make them with applesauce instead of oil so they're low in fat, they are still pretty sweet and I have trouble eating just one.
Yum. Pizza.  Thank god I don't live nearby one anymore but Ledo's pizza is fantastic.  If you know what it is you know what I mean.  However, they do put a pound of cheese on a large so I can only eat 2 pieces without feeling soooooo bad.
Pasta...anyway, anywhere, anyhow.  I feel powerless over it. (Is'nt that the 1st step? ;) )
