This place is awesome

Its nice to have a site where you can come to and talk and share with other people all around the world. Calorie Count is so great and there are other sites like this but require a fee, how does Calorie Count do it with no charge. How do they keep up the expense? Is there a way we can send donations?

Any Moderators out there can answer this about donations?

I don't know how to send donations but they probably pay for it with the advertisements on the site.  The more people visiting the site the more the advertisement are worth.

I dont think this site was owned by about.com before. I came here a few years ago and this site was pretty good. Abouts made it a lot better. They probably do pay with advertisements and endorsements.

Oh definitely, there are advertisements for everything from Albertsons (the ad has a giant cupcake on it.. :[) to some scam weight loss products.

Advertising is where they get $$$!!

Clicking on the ad's (not the spam weight loss ones, but the ones that are actually helpful) will make CC look better to advertisers if there is a greater click count, and thus boost the price of the advert space, thus helping CC

I never knew I should be clicking on the ads to help CC...now I feel like I should have realized that all along.  I will start clicking on them a few times a day :)

Erik and Igor started c-c and then About.com bought it.  Erik and Igor still work hard on making c-c better all the time, but now they have more staff to help.

Yes, it has always been free.  Paid for by the ads we sometimes love to hate. 
I don't think that they take donations, but you can always contact them (link at bottom of each page) and ask if you could donate to a charity in their name.

PS the ads that come up on your page are generated by the cookies on your computer.  Don't like the ads, just delete your cookies and you will get other ads.
