Which take-out place fits in your diet plan?

Quote  |  Reply
Subway is considered a decent take-out place, you select you vegetables and fatfree dressing with the roast chicken on whole wheat and you are good to go.

Captain D's low-carb dishes are decent too. I like the salmon dish. Nothing deep fried!

What is your take-out place that you feel good about?

While a little high in sodium, I tend to feel decent about doing most of the weight watchers items at Applebees.
Subway works for me because you can order all the stuff you want and have it in a salad- not a bun or bread.

Since my fiance is a fast food junkie, I can usually find something to eat anywhere.  And really, I think that's the key to making a healthy diet part of your lifestyle.  Here's what I opt for:

McDonalds--a snack size fruit and yogurt parfait with a side salad--total cals around 320, total cost around $2

Long John Silvers--baked cod and rice--total cals around 300, total cost around $3

Arby's and Hardees--roast beef sandwich (regular size)--around 350 cals, cost around $2

Wendys--baked potato (w/o sour cream) and a side salad--total cals around 350, cost around $2

Sonic--Grilled chicken sandwich OR BLT (must request no mayo/sauce)--total cals around 300, total cost around $3

Taco Bell--any soft taco FRESCO style--total cals around 180, total cost about $1

Generally, request all cheeses and sauces to be removed.  As another rule of thumb, white colored sauces (such as ranch or mayo) are more fattening.  If you must have sauce of some sort, choose ketchup, mustard, or salsa. These are a lot lower in calories and fats.

Those foods mentioned above are just a few of my favorite options.  I've personally noticed that I'm not filled for as long a time by these fast food options (except for Wendy's baked potato), simply because they're so refined and processed, thus, your body can break them down more quickly.

olive garden- the minestone soup and the classic pasta dish

chili's- any of the guiltless pleasures

mcdonalds- a happy meal...yes i still get them sometimes..lol

Panda Express .... mix n' match 2 items with the veggies for a 2-item combo!

Steamed veggies .... 78 calories

Mushroom chicken .... 130 calories

Broccoli beef .... 150 calories

Tangy Shrimp .... 150 calories

Egg Drop Soup ... 88 calories

Black Pepper Chicken .... 200 calories

Potato Chicken .... 200 calories

Fortune Cookie .... 30 calories

Boston Market ...

Chicken Noodle Soup .... 180 calories

Tortilla Soup (NO TOPPINGS) .... 80 calories

Cornbread .... 130 calories

Fresh steamed veggies ... 50 calories

Garlic Dill New Potatoes ... 140 calories

Roasted Turkey .... 180 calories

Roasted Sirloin ... 160 calories

Fresh Fruit salad ... 60 calories

Dairy Queen- grilled chicken salad

child-size ice cream cone! :-)
Moes' Southwestern Grill:  anything without a tortilla, you can play with the different combinations of proteins online on their website.  I personally LOVE the "Personal Trainer" with guacamole and without cheese, meat or tofu - I just add the black beans instead.  I also use extra salsa as the dressing which cuts out even more calories...I think the whole thing clocks in at about 186 total calories, not bad for a good lunch!

I usually get online and google wherever we are going to eat and see what I can eat. I usually opt for a kids meal.

Actually I get full now on them.

i generally try to do subway when i eat out, but i'll go to wendy's sometimes and have the grilled chicken sandwich, baked potato, diet coke, and ssoooommmeeettiimmmesss a small vanilla frosty. not great for you, but satisfying.
Panera Bread -- grilled salmon salad, low fat chicken noodle soup, low fat vegetarian black bean soup (I don't do salad dressings, so my salads are always lower than advertised...)

Wow, you Calorie Counters, I'm impressed.

You gave me suggestions that I wouldn't expect to be so decent (and affordable). It stimulates me to rethink the fastfood options and take the available nutrition facts for nice bed time reading.

Thank you very much!

I strictly stick to my calorie intake for 29 or 30 days of the month but allow myself one indulgence per month and totally forget about calories...dang that meal tastes totally decadent and no guilt!
In the DC area:  Chicken Out rocks!  There are so many meals I can put together around pulled chicken, a salad, fresh veggies and fruit salad that run between 300 and 600 calories, have a good mix of protein, carbs and fat (yes some fat is good for you) and are ready to go in five minutes.  I've dropped 110# over the past 18 months and I probably eat at Chicken Out 4 times a week.

minestrone soup @ olive garden , veggie mini sub @ subway, plain potato @ wendys, pintos & cheese @ tacobell, apple slices @ mcdonalds

and when im really in a hurry i can actually do pretty good at 7-11 too, a cheese stick is 80cals and .69, banana 120cals and .50, a mixed nuts bag (only eat a 1/3 of it) for 123 cals, and they have strawberries & grapes precut, and carrot/celery stick/cheese packs for 2.99. so even in a convenience store i dont have any excuses to grab a bunch of junk
I like Subaway okay, but my beef with them is that they don't actually offer whole wheat. They have white bread colored to LOOK like whole wheat, but it's no better for you. My favorite take away food of all time is sushi and sashimi, however, and as long as you eat in moderation and choose traditional pieces, it fits in anyone's diet plan.

My favorite has to be the grilled southwest chicken salad from McDonalds.  320 calories and full of flavor!  You can't beat it!

I am a fan of Qdoba, although I'm not sure the calories...  I mostly chose things based on the overall quality/healthfulness of ingredients now, instead of just a low calorie count.  At Qdoba I get a vegetarian black bean burrito with 1/2 the rice, guacamole, and salsa.  No sour cream or cheese.  It's very tasty and very filling!

Anyone not in St Louis is missing out on the most fantastic healthy fast food place ever, Crazy Bowls and Wraps.  Their food is divine, and very, very good for you considering it's restaurant food.

Mine is El Tapetio, a local Tex-Mex place. I get the grilled chicken salad, which is just fajita grilled chicken pieces, lettuce, tomato, bell pepper, onion and a dash of low-fat mozarella cheese.

About 350 calories, and it really fills you up. Just stay away from the chips and salsa!!!! But even adding in a margarita (best in town btw) and 14 chips, it is a bit under 700 calories, which is easy to save up for.
