Think it, Plan it, Have it, Love it
What is the food or meal that you stopped eating for whatever reason? One that you want to eat again? Why dont you eat in anymore?
Decide on it, Plan on how you are going to have it again, Have it, Then report back!
I want to have apple crumble and custard
I haveent been having it because I am afraid its too filling and wont agree with me
I am going make on tonight for my family and have it after dinner
Oh I like this idea :)
I haven't been able to have creamy pasta dishes for ages because of my fear of all the fat in it.
But tonight, i'm going to have fettucini for dinner :O
I shall edit and report back when i've had it.
Update: w-o-w. I have been depriving myself! That fettucini was so good and creamy and yum. I felt a little sick after though haha but it was worth it.
Great topic this - and no doubt it will be an eye opener for some of us, myself included.
Food fears still hang heavy over me despite my foray into recovery. I have always had a phobia of anything with fat in it, so have missed out on so much such as butter, cheeses, many meats, pastry of all descriptions, creamy yoghurts, etc...
Also sugar has been a real issue for me - no biscuits, no meusli with suger added, I never have had sugar or milk in tea or coffee, no fruit puddings (drivenlass, hope you enjoy that apple crumble!!!), etc....
The list I could provide here would no doubt make pretty grim reading, but one thing I will say is that I'm a little more relaxed with things like butter (because it's natural as opposed to man-made low fat spreads), but I still only have a scraping of it on bread and absolutely refuse to add it to a jacket potato.
I have been diagnosed as lactose intolerant so cream and full-fat yoghurts and milk are out, but I do enjoy soya yoghurts so I eat plenty of those.
As for meats - well, the tiniest bit of fat on something like a slice of ham will have to be removed before it goes into my mouth. I don't like red meats, so tend to stick to poultry and alot of fish.
Cheeses are also something I'm finding easier to eat, but with my lactose problem I can only tolerate hard cheese like cheddar. I am still very consious of how much cheese I eat though and tend to restrict without realising it at the time.
As for sugar, I still have unsweetened meusli, but can sometimes have a teaspoon of honey added to plain soya yoghurt if I crave something a little on the sweet side.
Pastry is still off limits I'm afraid - I don't feel quite able to tackle that just yet.
Oh dear, I do apologise for rambling on so much! If anyone is still reading this, then you deserve a medal!!
It's funny that you posted this, because I had homemade baked mac and cheese this past Saturday night for the first time in a really long time, after about a week of planning for it (because it's so bad for you. . .whole milk, butter, full fat cheese. . .pretty much my worst nightmare haha)
It was pretty incredible. And even better because I planned for it and I didn't eat too much (and now there's some left for my roommates!) :).
Waycat - so what fear food do you plan to challenge yourself with? That big list of off-limit foods will never get smaller without you making inroads. I suggest picking something from the list and then reporting back. ![]()
Id like to add a useful reminder, i think its important to remember NOT to SUBSTITUTE one challenge for another, as in, having the apple crumble is GREAT, but its also important to still make that 2500 MINIMUM calorie goal AS WELL!
good luck!
Yea obviously, that thought never even crossed my mind, im only referring to challenging fear foods-NOTHING else

Meryl, interesting question and good advice as always - thanks for that! ![]()
If I were to home in one on food at the moment, I think it may be adding butter to a jacket potato. Whenever I do jackets, which is quite often, my husband and two boys are always watching me to see if I add butter to theirs but not to mine. I know they are watching me over my shoulder, and they only have my best interests at heart, but I do feel the pressures sometimes!
So now you've put me on the spot - I shall put my hands up and say I will challenge myself to extra butter. Watch this space!
grt idea driven for me i fear choclate so im going to have some for my snacks this week
This is such a great idea!
As a Canadian girl, I haven't had "poutine" in I don't even know how long. Poutine's basically french fries, gravy and cheese curds. Uh, yeah. The least healthy of all unhealthy foods.
And seeing as I'm uber healthy these days, not to mention ED's huge fear of fat and sodium, I haven't even planned on having one of these in ages. Might just split one sometime soon! :D
I haven't been eating Southern food because it's breaded and/or full of butter/oil and/or sugar and/or cheese and/or it's deep-fried. I'm from the south, so I'm going to have Thanksgiving dinner the traditional Southern way: turkey and a little bit of everybody's casserole, half of three different desserts, a walk around the block (just to make you feel like you did something a little more active than eating your week's allowance of calories in one sitting and then take a nap), then pass out in front of the TV for two hours until it's time to go to the other in-laws' house.
And I like dark meat better than white meat, so I'm having turkey thigh meat with giblet gravy, dressing, cranberry sauce, asparagus casserole, hashbrown casserole, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole with streusel topping, and my baked macaroni-and-bacon casserole. I'm skipping the salad and fruit plate so I can have more room for the stuff I really came for: pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and whatever yummy gooey lemon bar-type thing Aunt Jan brings this year.
I'm strategizing by finding out what everyone's making beforehand, then if there's a repeat of a certain dish at the second dinner, I can skip it at the first. Maybe. Also, the week before Thanksgiving is going to be straight-up boot camp at the gym.
Report on apple crumble: Amzing! i prefer homemade, becasue store bought can be too doughy on top. It was yum, served cwarm with cold custard!
my favourite dessert i had my mums at the weekend made with wholemeal flour served with icecream . well done driven x

I want deep dish pizza with onions and peppers and some cherry crumb tart.
I planned on it all day - made the call to the pizza place, the hubby has gone to get it, and I'm about to have it. Well, in 10 minutes. YUM.
