Plantar Fasciitis
Who has it? What do you do about it? Has anybody gotten rid of it?
I waited it out, took some ibuprofen. Iced it. Didn't work out for 2 weeks.
I took it easy when I started back up, I still haven't started running again but that's more because I need new shoes.
I think that's probably the best place to start. From what I hear, you have to let it heal. I didn't stop running completely, I just lowered my frequency drastically and threw out a bunch of old shoes that I knew weren't doing my feet any good :)
Also, try these exercises: http://www.plantarfasciitisbraces.com/plantar _fasciitis_stretching_exercises.html
I had it a couple of years ago. New shoes with good arch supports helped, as did stretching.
It did go away, but it took several months if I recall correctly.
oh me! ;) you CAN run through it, but it's best to take about 2 weeks off. calf stretches really help, as do a new pair of running shoes. there are also supports you can buy at a running store that will keep the tendon from contracting while you sleep.
if the pain persists you might want to consider seeing a doctor, in case the tendon is torn or there is something else (like heel spurs) going on.
Me, too! I hiked for far too long (10 hrs/day for 2 weeks) with a pack that was far too heavy, and ended up with plantar fasciitis. I rested my feet with low-impact exercise for a few weeks, and though it was still painful every now and again for a few months, it was nothing severe. Though I don't have any pain now, I've been trying to strengthen my foot muscles by running barefoot for a half mile once a week or so, and that feels good! I run on a rubbery track, not pavement.
A good friend swears by the following method of relieving plantar fasciitis: cut a one-foot section off a circular foam pool noodle, so that you have an elongated cylinder of foam. Sit on the bed or in a chair and roll it up and down the length of your feet, one at a time, for a few minutes each day. You put it between your foot and the floor and just move your foot.
Only buy new shoes if the one you have are worn out. DON'T go out and buy some to resolve this problem. I had this problem and I visited a foot doctor who of course wanted to put me on arch supports, wasn't doing that!!! I then talked to various marathon runners and they prescribed a stretching exercise that did wonders. Basically, for prevention and healing, 1 - cross your right leg over your left resting your lower right leg on your left thigh. 2 - With your right hand grab the upper part of your foot and pull back for 30 seconds. 3 - Repeat 10 - 20 times. 4 - Repeat 1-3 on your other foot. It's not an immediate cure, but it will definitely speed up the healing process.

+1 You can also roll your foot over a tennis ball. Similar to the foam rolling, but it seems to get "deeper".
Thanks everybody. Well I've been rolling my foot on a golf ball (hurts), stretching my foot by pulling back my toes, and hanging my heels off a step. I have almost new running shoes, and I wear ugly purple dorks (crocs) whenever I'm inside.
I guess I could quit running, but that isn't going to happen for long. I'll try to stop until the end of September, and I made a Dr.'s appointment so I can get referred to a physio. Hopefully she isn't going to recommend orthotics because I'm pretty sure I don't want to go there.
I hate it. Last winter it hurt so badly whenever I had to take my ski boots off, though it felt great when they were on. Anyway, thanks again. I guess no barefoot running for me BMX. ![]()

There's always the dreadmill... I suggest socks, though, it gets hot.
I had it from walking in cheap shoes -- so get good quality shoes for the workout you do. If you run get a good high quality running shoe if you walk -- waliing shoe. don't workout in the same shoes you use for everyday
I ended up having to get cutom orthotics from a podiatrist and then had to use those for 2 years before mine healed up. I waited too long to address the problem too so fix it now.
Get a used water bottle that still has the lid -- fill it with water freeze it and run your foot over it. do the stretches as previously mentioned. Take time to heal -- if you have to go see a podiatrist.
What is interesterified fat?
Interesterification is a food processing term. It is one of three techniques used to modify fats: hydrogenation (to make trans fat)... Read more
