Plateau... now what?

Quote  |  Reply

I started using Calorie Count mid april when I was about 131 pounds. Now I'm 120 pounds and have been for about a week. I am happy with being 5'4'' and 120 pounds but I wouldn't mind loosing a couple more pounds. I have been trying to eat 1400 calories a day this whole time and it's worked. However, I think I'm reaching a plateau and I'm not sure what to do. I'm trying to decide if I want to go the weight maintenance route or keep trying to loose weight but slowly. If I want to maintain 120 pounds I'm not really sure how much to eat. I exercise for atleast 60 minutes everyday so I could technically eat 1800 calories a day but I'm worried that if I start eating that much I will gain weight since my body is only used to 1400 now. I also don't really crave 1800 calories a day anymore. If I stay at 1400 will I still loose weight or do I need to drop it down to keep loosing weight? I'm basically at a point where I probably need to make some type of change to either maintain my weight or loose it and need other people's advice!

If I want to maintain 120 pounds I'm not really sure how much to eat.

You can start here : http://www.phord.com/cc/

don't drop your cals, tweak your foods instead.  diet is 70% of your fitness.  calorie awareness is much better than calorie counting. (I am actually posting an article tomorrow about that)

Also, for stubborn pounds:

1. cut sodium by 1000mg

2. cut processed foods

3. drink 80 oz water daily

4. cut alcohol

(I am 5'1) I hit a plateau not too long ago as well at 120.8 solid for 3 weeks ( ugh! ) and finally got over that hump!  I blog about my trek here at muslemonkeys.blogspot.com.  look up my plateau article under category "diet" entitled "Goodbye Plateau - dropping the stubborn lbs

hope this helps!

Thank you. I realize I didn't have a specific question so all the advice is helpful!

As you drop weight the calories need to continue to drop also but it seems like 1400 should be few enough.  A friend of mine on WW said they reccomend boosting calories for a week to what you would need to consume to maintain your current weight and then drop them back down.  Tricks your body into burning them again.
