Plateau at a healthy weight, should I stop trying to loose?
Hello,
I'm five foot one, 130lbs. I have plateau-ed at this weight for a couple months now. And while it is considered a healthy weight for my height, my goal weight is 125. Should I stop trying to loose the weight and just stay at a healthy 130?
Thanks!
It's a feature of long-term dieting that your body can get used to less food over time. It's also possible, after a few months, that you can get a little careless with the calorie-counting... there's not much room for error when you get to a healthy weight. If you increased your calorie-intake to a maintenance level and increased your exercise you might find the last 5lbs magically disappeared anyway. Good luck
Those last 5 pounds are historically super tough to lose! But I have a similar problem. I'm 5'3" and 128. My goal was to get anywhere between 125-130, but I ideally wanted to get to as close to or at 125. So far I've been hanging about between 128 and 130 for a month. Right now, I'm trying something like what gi-jane suggested. I've increased my intake to maintainence levels (and sometimes over!) and am continuing to exercise. I'm probably going to keep this up for another month or so and then drop my intake again along with increased exercise to see if that helps. If it works, I'll definitely let you know. Best of luck!
What difference are 5 lbs? Neither aesthetically nor for health reasons will those make a difference. Our weight fluctuates +/- 5 pounds, anyway.
Are you aiming for this weight for a feeling of success and confidence? Why not buck cultural pressures and just be the size you're comfortable with, and not obsess over a number?

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, it's all about the feeling of success. When you set a goal, especially one within reason, it's nice to meet it. Sure, losing a few pounds more likely than not won't make a difference in how I look. But it's nice to have one in the "win" column and meet the goal.

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
