Plateau hit due to depression. Advice?
Hey, everyone. I've been using CC for a few months and it has helped me lose almost 30 lbs! I suffer from depression and have never posted in this group before, but I could really use some advice.
My depression isn't what I would call clinical, it's due to the very bad situation my life is in currently (unemployed, living with parents, overweight etc.). I am taking generic wellbuterin and it has helped a great deal, though I am still nowhere near what I would consider "happy". I don't expect, nor do I want, a pill to make me happy. I know that once my life is in order that happiness will come with it, but getting there is more of a challenge than I could have ever imagined.
Though I've made great progress with my weight loss so far, I've hit my first plateau and know what the reason is. Over the past 3 weeks I haven't been able to lose a single pound and here is why:
1. depression sapping my motivation
2.depression leading to drinking beer (not a ton but enough to kill my deficit)
3. depression and anxiety making it very hard to fall asleep and also hard to wake up when I should
Is there anything practical you could recommend (other than more/different medication) to get myself re-motivated and jump back on the weight loss bandwagon with the conviction I had before this crappy plateau?
Thanks.
Hi logboy, and firstly congratulations on your weight loss to date! That's fabulous!
How are you doing? It was a week ago when you posted.. have things improved for you?
Depression is a killer isn't it? There's never a 'happy medium', we're either ticking along or down in the depths, and when we're down it's so hard to get back up.
I would suggest maybe a change of scenery or routine, or both! Do something different which will feed your mind with renewed energy. A walk by the sea or through a park. A trip to the library. Even shopping in a different store. These things get your mind active.
Good luck!
