Are any of you 5'4-5'6 and plateauing at ~130 pounds?? :D
I'm 5'5 (cw: 133lbs), and have never ever managed to get below 128...I always got discouraged in the past...I notice that so many women around my height tend to plateau in their 130's as well, that's why I'm calling on y'all!
This time I'm determined to get to my goal (120lbs or size 4...whichever comes first). A friend of mine who successfully overcame the 130 plateau told me that it's the most difficult plateau to overcome (and she knows her stuff since she was obese once). So we should start a group! That way we can keep motivating each other to reach our goals...let's see who gets to push through their plateau first...then we can share tips and all that stuff!
Thanx Gerbersmirf!
I know the feeling, when getting dressed is all about camouflage...Bleah!
Weighed myself & measured, great news! I'm down about an inch everywhere and I've lost about 1.5 #s despite my falling behind. Now I need to stay focused...
137.6
Chest 36
waist 25.25
tummy 33
hips 38
Great job. see you weren't doing as poorly as you thought!! O i'm so happy for you. its all in the measurements!! keep up the good work!![]()

ok i just did my measurments and i feel super terrible about myself now...
Chest- 33.5 Waist- 27 Thigh- 24.5 Hips- 40.5
...130lbsYou're meeasurements are very similar to mine! And whilst I do want to look a bit fitter (I wouldn't be on here if I didn't), I don't think of it as super terrible :)
I am also, really similar to your measurements, except my waist is a -gasp!- 30 in, and my bust is a bit bigger... and I weigh 132 instead of 130. but I have to say, it's a good start! You have to kknow where you are to improve.. yes? even if you weigh yourself once a week and feel awful about it, there is no way you can improve.
This group is perfect for me! I started gaining weight last year and was at 138 for a day. Being that close to 140 freaked me out like you wouldnt believe so I began to workout and make healthier choices :D Now I am at about 132 and cannot lose any weight, although I do believe I have gained more muscle because I look more toned. Still though, I want to LOSE FAT! I have plenty of it!
I've been doing a lot of research on how to make weight loss more effective, so I have a few ideas on how to change my methods.
What are your opinions/experiences with weight loss, ie diet and excercise?
Some specific questions I have:
-will having small meals throughout the day really help even if i consume the same amount?
-when is the best time to workout? should i eat before or after?
-is working out before going to bed a bad idea?
-is it bad to workout every day? would taking rest days be more effective?
-does more sleep REALLY help you lose weight?
-starvation mode, fact or fiction?
I have also read that fast walking is actually better than intense sweaty panting running. This does not make much sense to me...they claim that the former dips into your carbs rather than fat reserves..
gahhh sorry to bombard you all with questions but I want my weight loss to be effective. All opinions would be greatly appreciated! Good luck to all!
Here are some great tips for effective weight loss:

Yes smaller meals are better for you even though you may be eating the same amount. Smaller meals gives you more time to burn off calories.
The best time to work out is in the morning before you eat. Drink a glass of water and then go to it. If you work out and then eat, it helps speed up your metabolism throughout the day.
Working out right before going to bed is a bad idea because it may cause you to not be able to fall asleep. you get your blood moving and your energy up so its hard to then wind down and go to sleep.
I think that working out everyday depends on what you are doing to work out. I typically work out 6 days a week, maybe even seven. However every other day i do cardio, and sit ups etc. On the other days i walk and do yoga/ pilates. They are different types of workouts and i am not necessarily working out the same muscles.
you burn a lot of calories in your sleep and any excuse to get more sleep means i'm in :)
Starvation mode is very real! if you are not eating enough calories, you body absolutely goes into starvation mode. it makes sense. This is something that has been mentioned to me before on this forum because i have a very hard time meeting my daily calorie intake!
Just as an FYI these are all my own opinions and what i believe to be true from life experience and reading. So i just thought that i would put my 2 cents in to try to help you! I enourage you to do all the research you can to make your efforts more effective and let us know if you have any other questions or if you need any encouragement. thats what we are here for!!!
Well I guess I will weigh 1st...
135 thats down a pound at least I am going in the right direction..
I ate some really crappy food yesterday Ihope it doesn't set me back!
Nicole
is it tooo late to join? This group is perfect for me...
I'm 5"4.. my starting weight was 140lbs, i've managed to get to 127-129lbs but am completely stuck there! i think joining this group will remind me to be good!
I'm at work at the moment.. so might be a little weird if i start measuring myself! will post them later on tonight.
Laura
Finally!!! Under 130lbs!!
129.4 lbs for my weigh-in today. Thanks to everyone for keeping me motivated this week. Only 4.4 lbs to goal weight.
I was looking at pictures from Dec. last night. It's amazing what a 9lb weight loss can do. I can really see it in my face.
Hope everyone has a great weigh-in today!
This sucks! What the heck am I doing wrong. I have been CC'ing for a month. There are several days in which I missed. However, I have been averaging 1400 calories on the days I have logged. This is the recommendation this site gave me. I figured it out and on the days I did miss I would have had to average almost 3400 per day just to hit my maintenance level 1900 (assuming my math is correct.) I know there is no way I ate that much on each of the missed days. So theoretically I should have lost at least 1 pound within the past month. Not so much and I am so frustrated I just want to cry. I have actually been trying lose since January and I think I have gained. Granted I started working out harder which may mean and increase in muscle. But wouldn't I see changes in inches or something.
Wt - 138, waist 28.5, belly 30, thighs 22, hips 36, (chest is small enough already no need to measure LOL)
I just looked back at last week and maybe I lost .5" off my thighs - but who knows how accurately I measure each time.
For the past 3 days I have ate between 1100-1200 calories, since I ate a lot more than normal and did not log it last weekend. Is that bad?? It seems like zig zagging, which some people seem to have success with. As long as I average 1400 for the week is that ok?
I am just so frustrated that I am not seeing anything happen. And I am scared to death that I will end up weight 175 again. And I am pissed that I let something like this control me, SERIOUSLY in the grand scheme of things I know that if this is my biggest issue I am a very lucky girl. I want to lose it right this time since last time I just didn't eat much and obviously could not maintain that way. Sorry for being so negative. I hope everyone else had success this week.
Weigh in day today!
Wow...I haven't been on here for some days and I'm thrilled to see more ppl joining our little group...this is awesome...anyways...it's weigh in day today! I had a crappy week...my eating was ok, but I barely had time to exercise because of how busy I've been this whole week (tons of course work and midterms!)
anyways, I did lose 2 pounds :D I'm down to 131lb from 133
Not much difference in the measurements though (only lost about a quarter of an inch from my belly and that's it), so I'll measure again next week...
I must go to the gym today...haven't been there in nearly 2 weeks :(
Hey chewylotta,
have you tried playing around with your macronutrient ratios? maybe try eating more protein and less carbs (ie. lots of veges throughout the day, eating starchy carbs only early in the day, and lean protein in every meal)...I find that when I do that the weight comes off a little quicker...ofcourse the only problem would be sticking to it :p
I'm going to try that this week....
btw I notice that our stats are remarkably similar...when I was at 135-136, it took a few weeks to get the scale weight to drop!! the inches were coming off though....so try the measuring tape...u can try eating just a little less...maybe averaging 1300-1350 per week? I did that and finally my weight came down to 133...I brought my intake up to 1400-1450 (barely did any exercise) after that and I still managed to go down to 131, so it's all good so far

desert_rose: Last night I did the HIIT workout on the treadmill...... wow was I beat afterwards! I jogged at 5.5mph for 1.5 minutes, then sprinted at 8mph for 30 seconds. I did this rotation for about 15 minutes straight. I hope I burned as much fat as they say you do! Any other suggestions for the HIIT workout? Am I doing it right?
my workouts usually consist of the stairclimber for 40-45mins (high intensity) 3-4x/week, or treadmill 40-45mins (running for about 20-25mins and walking brisk the remainder) 3-4x/week.....whichever one I feel like doing that day. I also lift weights 3-4x/week. I will admit that I tend to not do crunches as much as i probably should to get my belly toned......my belly is the hardest area to get toned, I need it to look better for Key West in 1 month!!!
kelly that's awesome...keep it up...to be honest I haven't started HIIT-ing yet...I'm waiting till I plateau to pull out the big guns lol...maybe as soon as I get to 128-130, which is in a week or two....can't wait though :D
I was told that crunches aren't really all that great...someone said that a flat, toned belly is made in the kitchen not in the gym...I forgot where I heard that one lol...so don't worry about not doing enough crunches or ab excercises
btw congrats to jocalo and everyone else who are seeing results! let's keep moving! I really need to tighten up my eating and exercise plan this week whew
hey girls,
Just found this forum through google. I joined my local gym 3 weeks ago. I went everyday during spring break and since i am back at school, I go 4 days a week in the mornings.
height: 5'6
weight: 132, bust: 34 waist:27 hips:35 thighs:21
goal weight: 120
Diet: vegetarian for 3 years
The lowest I have been in the past year was 126lbs and I was going to the gym every morning.
I run on the treadmill for 40 mins and lift weights 4x a week. My problem is I still eat whatever I want. I'll eat either tofu w brown rice, soup, veggie burger, or make a fruit/veggie smoothie, and the next day I'll have mexican or indian food. I need to learn how to limit high calorie meals to once a week.
I did notice a difference in the past 3 weeks. I am losing in inches. I can fit into old jeans(sz 27/4). I lost an inch off my hips.
I will definitely try eating small meals throughout the day. My days are usually chaotic so it will be hard!
This morning I weighed in at 131. Down from 133 but still not in the 20s!
Great job, girls! Keep it up!
hi all,
I had a very busy day yesterday so I was unable to do any measurements! I'm sure nothing has changed since my weight is still in the 123-125 range! I was 124 this morning. I have a feeling this plateau is never going to go away! I will keep at it though! it's very hard to eat more healthy when my husband LOVES to eat out all the time. I am pretty good though at choosing "healthier" options at the restaurants but maybe all this restaurant food is keeping these extra 4 pounds on me! and not to mention that I don't think my abs will ever be toned/defined because of my eating habits! dammit! oh well, I'd rather be 124 and not ripped rather than being back up to 143! I just feel so flabby......it must come with age......and i haven't even had any kids yet!!! i'm scared of what my body will look like after that! oh well there's always plastic surgery! hahaha! thanks for listening :)
Keep at it girls! everyone is doing AWESOME!!! Don't get discouraged with yourselves, weight loss takes time...... unfortunately.
wow, weigh-in was yesterday, i thought it was today! oh well, doesn't matter anyway because i'm at 139 again. D: hopefully it's just water weight since i'd already been up for a couple hours and had eaten breakfast... i have to weigh myself at the gym. there's no scales allowed in this house because i'd just obsess over it.
kellybarnes, i totally hear you about your husband! mine always wants to eat out too, or wants to bring junk food into the house. i was ready to throttle him today, he brought home a big bag of TOTINOS PIZZA ROLLS!! he's always doing things like that after i've BEGGED him to just keep it away from me. like right now, it's 1am, i'm struggling with a night-time snack urge and those damn pizza rolls are calling my name. :( THANKS SWEETIE!
ugh. at least i had a great workout today, but i didn't eat enough. i had a spinach salad, half a grilled chicken breast, and a granola bar. i just wasn't hungry after i saw the scale. D:
it's good to see the rest of you are doing better, hopefully when we weigh in next week i can celebrate losing a pound or two myself!
themusiclives-- I totally understand! i'm thankful my husband hates grocery shopping so if I don't buy it, it won't be in the house! he always begs for some junk food (he loves when i bake brownies or cake!) and i'm like NO WAY! I have to ration his junk food intake or i end up eating it to! If it's not in the house, then I don't have to fight those urges! Damn, I haven't had those pizza rolls in ages, they sure do sound good! Keep fighting those urges though, I know it's hard, I have the same problem!
we can do this!! keep fighting :)
I am so bummed. I weighed in yesterday, and I am back UP a pound to 138.4, from the day before, which means I gained for the week. I looked at the calendar and saw a skull and crossbones, so it could easily be water retention from PMS, but it is really discouraging to exercise and average under 1400 cals a day and GAIN weight. Even if I had eaten a whole cheesecake in my sleep, I should have at least maintained.
My inches are about the same, so it's probably just a fluctuation. I know that muscle weighs more than fat, but I am always a little suspicious of that explaination for weight gain, because muscle is pretty hard to build and putting on enough muscle to ofset calorie deficit seems easier said than done, especially for a girl.

Its probably just come down to water retention, any increase in sodium intake will also affect it too. It's good to see you're also keeping a track of the inches, that will give you a more accurate idea and seem as though they're the same its proof you haven't gained.
You've done the hard work and you know you've done it right, so don't worry that you've gained because you haven't!
Thanx for the encouragement Kupre! I talked my self down, but it really helps having support.
I wish the whole "calories in, calories out" thing was truly accurate, then control freaks like me would be happy, but it isn't that simple.
