Are any of you 5'4-5'6 and plateauing at ~130 pounds?? :D

Quote  |  Reply

I'm 5'5 (cw: 133lbs), and have never ever managed to get below 128...I always got discouraged in the past...I notice that so many women around my height tend to plateau in their 130's as well, that's why I'm calling on y'all!

This time I'm determined to get to my goal (120lbs or size 4...whichever comes first). A friend of mine who successfully overcame the 130 plateau told me that it's the most difficult plateau to overcome (and she knows her stuff since she was obese once). So we should start a group! That way we can keep motivating each other to reach our goals...let's see who gets to push through their plateau first...then we can share tips and all that stuff!

Hi Girls!  Kiss

I just created an account today and already I'm motivated to reach my goal from reading your stories!  I too share the frustration of plateauing around 130#.  I'm about 5'5" 136#, the heaviest I've ever been.  I did a mama bootcamp program last year (even though I'm not a mama!) ;) and got down to 125# and lost more than 45" overall!!  (I never measured with my trainer at the end, but I'd lost 25" just halfway/6 weeks through.)  I felt incredible!  But, I'm back up to 136# again.  My realistic goal is 125# by July and my ultimate goal is 120#.  I know it's do-able because I did it last year.  I was also more disciplined then, which means I just need to get motivated to do it again!  We can all help each other.  I went to the gym this morning for a spin class, which was full.  :(  So, my fellow bootcamper and I did the elliptical for just 10 minutes and some weight machines for our legs and abs for 30 minutes.  Two of the biggest tips our trainer pounded home were:

WATER:  Drink 80-100 oz. each day.  Being just 2% dehydrated decreases your metabolism 30%!!

CARDIO:  It burns the most calories the fastest.  As much as you might hate running, it gets the job done.  Elliptical machines are easier on your knees, and spin classes or outdoor biking are awesome as well!  One of the best exercises for your entire body is swimming, which I hope to get into a routine of starting next week.

I'll measure soon and post my stats.  For now:

Height: 5'5"

Current weight: 136.4#

Well I am back up to 138 I think...I can barely see the numbers on my scale since I am so blind!  It is not digital so I should probably invest in a new one.

4-23Measurements - Wt - 138, waist 28.5, belly 30, thighs 22, hips 36,

5-6 Measurements waist 28", belly 29.5",  thigh 21.75" hips 35.5

I suppose I have a lost a some inches.  But I really wish it were more and faster!  I am having a really hard time eating over 1200-1300 calories during the week.  Especially since I tend to eat so much more (and not track) on the weekends.  It is so hard when I am gone every weekend to stay on track.  That is my ultimate goal!  Mentally I figure if I eat less during the week I make up for the lack of calories on the weekend.  Since I am not seeing a lot of progress I better figure out how to change that mindset if I am going to have success sooner.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Weighed myself today, 135.4!! yay! I think it's the running/ HIIT,  my other cardio wasn't doing anything for the longest time.

missamerika-We have about the same stats and goals. I'm trying for 120 by July too. Let's keep an eye on each otherSmile and I bet we can do it.

so today is weigh in day.. and i'm 127 exactly! YAY! only 7 more lbs to go.

133.5  YAY!!! I am totally going in the right direction .. 120's  here I come!!!

138.2  almost 2 lbs for me. It's my first week and I am thrilled that I found this site.  I love watching how many calories I burn and how many I consume.  Keeps me motivated.  Now off for vacation. Wish me luck on not gaining too much.

Weigh in day...

ughh...I'm still the same...no changes in measurements...waist got a little smaller...lost about 0.25" from there...everywhere else is the same. Arms feeling slimmer and looking more toned. But no changes in weight (still 131lbs)...it is getting abit discouraging. Must push myself this week. Maybe I should finally try out HIIT. Haven't been eating enough veges. Must cook this weekend, must, must, must...I've had enough of eating canned food and not enough veges.

I must reach 123 pounds before 17th July. I have exactly ten weeks from today. I hope it's doable. Will push myself like I've never done before.

Welcome miss_amerika...cool you've gone down to 125 before...how did you do it...btw thanks for the tips...I should be drinking more water, been so busy lately...my lowest ever in my adult life was 128...all the best to all of us....I could do with alot of motivation right about now lol I'm going for surgery sometime in July (around the 18th-20th) and I'm not supposed to do any strenuous execise after my operation for about 4-6 weeks (walking and low impact exercises are okay), so I'm hoping to have atleast gone down to 123 before then. Congrats to those who saw results this week!

What I'm going to change this week/ GOALS:

1) Make sure I'm drinking 12 glasses of H2o a day

2) Start HIIT...start out with 3 days a week of HIIT and steady state cardio on other days.

3) Increase Weight training to 3 times a week

4) Eat atleast 3 servings of green leafy veges and 2 servings of fruit a day

5) Eat more protein...I always tell myself to, but I always end up having tons of carbs....Must cook this weekend...grilled chicken and lots of stir-fry veges.

6) get serious with my food journal...lots of blank pages in there...I don't want to be under or over estimating how much I'm eating. Must stick to 1300-1500kcals a day.

those are my goals for this week. I should really stick to it.

I forgot to weigh in here last week and I didn't do inches this week...

4/29 last week-136

5/6 this week-135

Chest 36 (no change)

waist 24.75 (down .5")

tummy 32 (down 1")

hips 37.5 (down .5")

This is where I start to screw it up. Whenever I see progress, like when men's heads start to turn again, I forget that it takes work to get here. I must stay focused on my goal and not settle for a not awful body, but hold out for my best possible body and not just for vanity. Especially now that I'm 42, because it will only get harder from here on out.

Don't get down Desert Rose. If your inches are going down then that number on the scale is reflecting something else. I gained a little last month for a day or two and it was just pms. Of course I freaked, but it was nothing.

I dropped one pound. I am 133 right now.  Not much change in the inch department

Bust=37"

Waist=29.5"

Tummy=34"

Hips=38"

Thighs=21"

Hopefully I will notice more of a loss once my stupid period comes. I too, need to drink more water. I only get about 500 mL/day of just plain water...I really need to up that. Good luck everyone!

Aghh...I hate measuring and weighing during or even close to my periods...I gain atleast half an inch of bloat almost everywhere and the scale shows a 1-2 pounds gain...I always freak out around that time, so now I've promised to stay away from the measuring tape of scale when it's that time of the month.

And thanks for the encouragement jocalo, I know what you mean by getting slack with your plan as soon as men's heads start turning lol...I came up with a silly solution for myself...I'm going to wear loose slacks and plain clothes until I reach my goal...no make up, just sunscreen...and my hair's up in a ponytail everyday. I'm kinda enjoying the freedom of not wearing make up and not having to be fashionable (I don't think you can do this if you're a working though, since you gotta be dressing up nice and smart hehe)...I try not to look sloppy though, but I like feeling like a casual plain jane, it keeps me focused :p keeps the men away, until I'm atleast done reaching my goals. I know as soon as I start dating I'll be having dinners and donut+ coffee lunch dates...gahhh...that won't help me at all. I prefer to deal with that once I've reached maintenance.

I'm thinking of starting a running program...I'm going to start by running 4 days a week in the AM for 30mins. Then increase that to 6 days a week. I think too much low-moderate intensity cardio is stalling my fat loss...my body's probably adapted to it. I know I'll have to eat more once I start running, around 1500kcal should do it. Anyways...I'm 130.7 pounds...just 10 pounds to go. I want to have reached 123 pounds at most by mid July. Can't wait.

******

Anyways, I'm going to put up a few pics of my favorite celebrity bodies for some added inspiration and motivation...feel free to post your favorite female bodies on here!

Christina Milian...my build and body shape is quite similar to hers, except I'm a flabbier version lol...I'd love to get my body to look like that...her abs are crazy amazing...

Jessica Alba...this is actually her post baby body...wow

Lady GaGa...this is the reason why I'm getting all fanatic about doing my squats and lunges...she has an awesome body...I'd kill to have this woman's thighs and booty!! lol

 I wonder why the pic is labeled lady_gaga_cellulite...I don't see an inch of cellulite anywhere! I'd love to have a booty like that, I best be getting to work on my squats.

I don't see any cellulite either...it's a sick world lol...I mean, her booty is flawless...and what's wrong with a little bit of cellulite anyways...I'd rather have a curvy, tight behind with a little cellulite then no cellulite and no behind....currently it's a normal sized behind with cellulite lol...but I must say I have way less cellulite and more of a booty now than I did before I started my squats some months back...I think all women should start doing squats and lunges, they're fantastic!

desert rose,

I love your plain Jane strategy...Genius!

Also, running has really helped kick start my weight loss. I guess we should be glad that our bodies adapt so quickly, 'cause none of us would be here if they didn't, but it is so frustrating having to change up the routine all the time.

I know what you mean! That's why I waited till I stopped seeing results to start running...I swear I hate running more than anything...arghh...I didn't want to start running or doing HIIT earlier because I was afraid my body would get adapted to it before I get to my goal...I wouldn't know what to do if that happened because honestly I have poor stamina and I hate hate hate any kind of high intensity cardio :( I really have no choice now but to start kicking up the intensity of my exercises, otherwise I'll be stuck at 130 forever lol

Hey,

I would like to join this group too, though I am maybe a little short for it at 5'3"... I was 175lb a few years back. I have always lost weight very sensibly and slowly, no diets and no putting anything back on, so I'm hoping it will stay off fine! Anyway, I bought some scales for the first time the other week and my weight has fluctuated between 128-133 in the last week. I sort of have a goal of 9st, 126 lb, in my head as my "perfect weight". I am quite curvy and hourglassy and I don't crave being skinny, though I am trying to tone up. Once (if!) I get there I will reassess, and may try for 120lb. So it is only a matter of a few silly pounds. My boyfriend loves my new figure and says nice things like I look perfect and I don't need to lose any more weight... but I would still like to psychologically break the 130-barrier - I'm sure you understand!

I eat 1300-1500 cals/day, and my main exercise is walking (about 4miles/day). I am generally on my feet. I do some weight training at home.

I think I did hit about 125lb a couple of months ago, not sure without scales but I think I was a little smaller. Boyfriend's 30th and a 10 day holiday might have stuck a couple of lb back on though. Maintenance was much more stressful than losing weight actually... that's why I bought the scales.

Anyway, that's me, I am generally quite cheerful and like my body so I may not be great for motivation, but I would still like to just drop a few lb more! Hello!

Hey bairn! sure you can join....I don't wanna get skinny either, I just have a major cellulite problem I'd like to fix (it's the thighs and upper arms I hate...mainly the thighs though), and I really want to drop another dress size. So I need lots of weight training and some high intensity cardio to slim down and tighten things up. And yeah that 130 pound barrier needs a swift kick in the **** grrr...lol...it's probably psychological, but I know I'd look better and feel happier without the jiggly thighs, and those are always the last to go for me....my mind is so set on obtaining a BMI of 20-21, I can almost taste it, so if you're happy with losing a few pounds then go for it!

Well, check back in with us and log your weight/measurements in every week...weigh in day is any day of the week you want it to be...good luck girl!

Hey feedmeair...start a good weight lifting if you're not already on it, that'll help raise your metabolism so you can maintain your weight more easily, and eat balanced and clean, no starving, otherwise you'll just gain fat and lose muscle, and all hell breaks loose from there on, I've been through it :(...what did you do to be able to get down to 124? I'd love to get there in the next couple of months...I'm currently fluctuating between 131 and 130, it's really frustrating...I can't wait to bust through this stupid plateau.

Well I am the same 133.5, I had a busy week , girl Scout Camp Friday, my birthday saturday, and a Huge family dinner outing Sunday for Mothers' Day..

Not as bad as I thought!
